Answer:	Actually yes. Technically, it is some sort of rubber seal. Between ceramic body and stainless steel heat element, there is very tight gap that has to be sealed by rubber gasket. The contact is very minimum. I just found this after using it for over 4 years.

Answer:	By law, to sell in the USA it can't have lead in it, nevertheless it is made in China and Chinese factories have cut corners and sold countless items for animals and humans in the U.S. and Europe that had lead and other poisons in them. During the G. W. Bush years when consumer protection agencies' budgets were slashed and they could not inspect what was coming into the country, banned substances were turning up in toys, dishes, foods, and pet products. Lead and melamine were two biggies. In fact, not only did Chinese factories put melamine in candy and dog food that ended up in the U.S. and Europe (killing pets in the U.S.) but in 2008 they put melamine in milk and baby formula sold in China itself, causing injury and hospitalization for 300,000 people and the deaths of Chinese infants. We're back to another anti-government administration bent on crippling our federal agencies we created to protect us, so I wouldn't be in a hurry to trust anything coming out of countries with histories of ignoring our consumer protection laws. Answer:	It is almost impossible to have a totally lead-free ceramic. This is why even an illustrious company like Fiesta can only advertise as "lead free" and not "100% lead free" because lead is naturally occurring in the materials we use to make most glazes, and so there will always be some *trace* amount of lead. If it is made in China, there is no way to know for sure if there is lead in it or not. But you can order test strips and test it yourself.

Answer:	Yes, I also found that the inside of the pot doesn't smell good. I didn't notice the smell in the water though. And it felt to me more of like a hot metal smell, not so much of a plastic one. I just checked again just now and I didn't find that the water nor the inside smelled (I have been using it for a few months). But the reviewer is right, there is a seal inside, between the hot metal plate and the ceramic, so maybe one should check what this seal is made of...

Answer:	To the person who assumed the OP will use it in San Fran, um, no. Anyone may be planning a trip to the Adirondaks or other mountains. Last time I climbed Mt. Marcy, I decided to sleep under the stars and a bear walked right over me, sniffed my face wondering if I was alive. I got a chance to play dead. I don't live in NY state. I'm trying to buy this too, and it tells me it's not shipped to my state either. I checked the laws. This site is wrong. Animal control sprays are allowed in my state, and you can ship them to me. There's not much point to doing business with a company that can't be bothered to know the law.
