3 best sheet pan for cakes
A sheet pan for cakes, also known as a sheet cake pan or baking sheet, is a rectangular or square-shaped bakeware designed specifically for baking large, flat cakes, often referred to as sheet cakes. Here's what you should know about sheet pans for cakes:
Size and Shape: Sheet cake pans come in various sizes, but they are typically larger and shallower than traditional round cake pans. The most common size is 18 inches by 13 inches, but smaller sizes are also available. The rectangular shape allows for easy cutting into square or rectangular servings.
Versatility: While primarily used for baking sheet cakes, these pans can also be used for making other baked goods like brownies, bar cookies, and even savory dishes like roasted vegetables or sheet pan dinners.
Material: Sheet cake pans are typically made of metal, most commonly aluminum or stainless steel. Some are coated with a non-stick surface to make cake removal and cleanup easier.
Depth: Sheet cake pans are relatively shallow compared to other cake pans. They are typically around 1 to 2 inches deep, which is ideal for cakes that are meant to be single-layer and easily cut into squares or rectangles.
Even Baking: The large, flat surface of a sheet cake pan ensures even heat distribution, resulting in a uniform cake texture and consistent baking throughout.
Decorating: Sheet cakes are popular choices for special occasions like birthdays and celebrations. Their flat surface provides ample space for decorating with frosting, icing, or other toppings. You can create various designs or messages on the top of the cake.
Portion Control: Sheet cakes are practical for serving a crowd or at gatherings where you need to feed many people. They allow for easy portion control and cutting into equal-sized servings.
Storage: Due to their rectangular shape, sheet cakes are easy to store in the refrigerator or freezer if you want to make them in advance or have leftovers.
Cleanup: Depending on the material and coating, sheet cake pans can be relatively easy to clean.Non-stick pans are especially convenient for quick and effortless cleanup.
When using a sheet pan for cakes, it's essential to follow your cake recipe's instructions regarding baking times and temperatures. Properly greasing and lining the pan with parchment paper can also help prevent the cake from sticking. Overall, sheet cake pans are a versatile and practical choice for baking large cakes that are perfect for gatherings and celebrations.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the diameter of the donuts? I'm looking for something 2" in diameter or slightly bigger |
Answer: | I just measured one side of the donuts whole to other it about 3 inches. They are a perfect size. I use them all the time. |
Question: | I don't understand how the doughnuts come out rounded on top. Do you put a second pan on top? Or do you just fill this like a muffin pan and bake |
Answer: | Hi, Book Lover # 52. I made the doughnuts and they came out rounded. I think it's the baking powder or whatever rising ingredients are in your recipe. You don't need a second pan - just fill like a muffin pan. My recipe called for me to fill the holes 2/3 full. They came out really nice. |
Question: | Will regular cake mix, Duncan Hines, etc. work with this donut pan |
Answer: | You can make cake box donuts and they'll taste like donuts. One box cake mix and two cups applesauce stirred together creates easy baked donut batter. Lightly grease pan and preheat oven. Bake at 425F for 10-15 minutes or until donuts firmly spring back when pressed. Allow to sit in pan for 5 minutes before removing, it helps to have more than one of these pans to cut down on idle time. An easy glaze is to melt store bought frosting in the microwave and then drizzle, dip, or dunk. You can then glaze and add toppings if desired. For best results, add toppings while glaze is still warm. |
Question: | are the walls straight up and down or slightly tapered |
Answer: | Sorry for the delay in answering your question. I bought a pair of 9" round Wilton Performance Pans in 2011 for my Aunt, who decorates cakes. These were tapered, which is not what she wanted. I looked around a little more and found 9" round Wilton Decorator Preferred pans that have straight walls. So you want the Decorator Preferred. What size do you need? It seems that Wilton has discontinued the 9" size. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long and at what temperature would you bake two boxes of cake mix in this pan |
Answer: | When I make a homemade sheet cake that the recipe originally gave instructions for it to be baked in a 9 x 13 pan, then I double that original recipe and then bake it in a 15 x 11 sheet cake pan. I bake it for 28 minutes. Each oven is different, but I would count on checking it at around 28 minutes, and if a toothpick comes out clean in the middle, plus the edges have pulled away slightly, then it is done. You don't want to overtake it and have it be dry. |
Question: | How many cups does this pan hold |
Answer: | Hello, The High-Sided Sheet Cake Pan will hold 32 cups. Nordic Ware Customer Experience |
Question: | Is the lid the same size as the lid for the regular half sheet |
Answer: | yes it is. i use it for that purpose too... to cover cookies... the 1/4 sheet size brownie pan lid fits the 1/4 sheet cookie sheet also. |
Question: | Are the edges 3.5 or 2 inches tall? Confused |
Answer: | The pan itself is 2 inches deep. I do believe the 3.5 inches comes when the lid is on. This is an awesome pan. Washes up so nice and easy. Lets you make big batches of brownies or bars. |
