Answer:	Yes, it is. The bristles are silicone, which is generally heat resistant to about 450 degrees or so. I'm not sure about what the handle is made out of, so be careful to not rest it against the heating surface. I use this for buttering a hot waffle iron at least once a week--it works great!

The boar bristles are great for applying thick glazes or sauces that I consider dense compared to say oils or butter. The nylon allows such as olive oil to freely flow when brushed across a surface providing a more uniform coverage. I'll put it another way, nylon for delicate work & boar bristle for laying it on thick. I hope this gives you a little insight. Cheers.
