This Ape case with hold my 200-500 alone, with it's lens hood attached, or I can also carry the lens attached to my D4s - with the lens hood reversed (stored position). With the camera attached and lens hood reversed, the outside latch must be loosened a bit, and the flap on top the case will be very snug. But it's a good fit, and secure. The only down side to the case is the lack of attach-points on the outside. No pockets or loops. And the case is very comfortable to carry cross-shoulder with the D4s and 200-500mm in it. | Answer: | After looking at the Tamron, Nikon, and Sony 75-300 lenses, they are all more than 4 inches. With the protective padding you would only have 5 inches to work with between the camera and lens. The holster is great for smaller lenses attached. For larger ones you may want to look into a shoulder bag. They are better designed for a DSLR and larger lenses. |
