Answer:	Have had the clock for about one month. It is quiet, no problem. My only complaint is that it is too small: My vision is not perfect, I cannot read the time without my glasses, especially on waking during twilight. The hands are white, though outlined in black against a white background. Probably not a problem for a younger person.

Question:	Can I open the cover and paint the background of the numbers and put them back
Answer:	The clock has a plastic or lucite cover on the front which possibly could pop off if you had the correct tool. I have never to tried it, though, so I don't know for sure.
