What's in the Box Heater, remote control, two AAA batteries Air King Heater Comparison Air King makes it easy to choose a space heater for use in your office, home, dorm room, and more with its range of 6 different types of portable heaters. With a safe heating element that provides comforting warmth to the room, Air King's ceramic heaters provide effective heating for most areas, while its solid die-cast element heaters use convection to gradually warm an area from the ground up. Types of Air King Space Heaters Ceramic Heaters use a fan to blow air that has been warmed by a ceramic heating element. These types of heaters are appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room. The ceramic heating element produces heat by passing current through a self regulated heating element. The element adjusts itself to the surface temperature, regulating it to produce a constant heat. As air is passed through the element, it will adjust to maintain the temperature. Die-Cast Heaters use convection that draws cold air from the floor. The air is warmed by heating coils and emitted from the top of the heater. A convection heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room. How Powerful a Heater Do You Need? Heaters are rated by BTU, which stands for British Thermal Unit (the amount of heat needed to heat one pound of water by 1 degree F). To find out how many BTU you need: Calculate the volume of the space to be heated by multiplying square footage by height. Multiply that number by 4 if your insulation is poor, 3 if it's average, or 2 if it's good. The resulting number is a ballpark figure for how many BTU you'll need. Five Tips for Buying a Heater
Choosing a space heater is a matter of sifting through a bewildering array of types, power ratings, and fuel sources. Let's break it down a little to make the process easier.
What are the different types of space heaters?
- Radiant heaters emit infrared radiation that directly warms the objects in front of the heaters (rather than the surrounding air). If you only need heat by a desk or in a small section of a room, a radiant heater is quiet and will use very little power.
- Forced-air heaters use a fan to blow air that has been warmed by metal or ceramic heating elements. A forced-air heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but can be noisy.
- Convection heaters draw cold air from the floor; the air is warmed by heating coils and emitted from the top of the heater. A convection heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but also can be noisy.
- Radiators work by heating oil enclosed in a reservoir, gradually heating the surrounding air. If heating speed isn't an issue, you might want to opt for a radiator. These are extremely quiet and effective--perfect for bedrooms.
Should I buy an electric or a combustion model?
If you want a heater that will be available in emergencies, or that can heat areas larger than a single room, choose a "combustion" model--one that is powered by a gas or fuel like propane, kerosene, natural gas, or diesel. Which fuel type you choose depends largely on convenience and local availability. For example, diesel would be appropriate for a heater you take with you on long car trips.
How powerful a heater do I need?
Heaters are rated by BTU, which stands for British Thermal Unit (the amount of heat needed to heat one pound of water by 1 degree F). To find out how many BTU you need:
- Calculate the volume of the space to be heated by multiplying square footage by height.
- Multiply that number by 4 if your insulation is poor, 3 if it's average, or 2 if it's good.
Do space heaters cost a lot to operate?
As a general rule, electric space heaters are more expensive to use than combustion models. To ensure energy efficiency, a thermostat is a must-have feature for any heater. For radiant heaters, models with a 360 degree heating surface can heat larger spaces. If you need a forced-air heater, models with ceramic elements tend to be more efficient.
Are space heaters a fire hazard?
Space heaters are implicated in about 25,000 residential fires every year. To ensure proper safety, always follow the manufacturer's usage instructions and fill out the warranty card to receive informational updates from the manufacturer. Also, look for extra safety features such as an automatic shutoff switch that can shut down the unit if, for example, it gets upended. In addition, choose a model where the heating element is adequately enclosed within the unit.
- Electronic controls with a programmable thermostat, 7-hour timer, and a multi-function remote control
- Self-regulating ceramic heating element with automatic overheat protection
- 3 speeds; 5118 BTU high heat and 3070 BTU low heat
- Constructed with metal and UL approved plastic
- Complies with ETL and OSHA; 3-year limited warranty

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a permanently carpeted living room floor. Can it be placed on carpet with a rug over it |
Answer: | It would depend what the amps/voltage of your current thermostat are. I would suggest purchasing with one of King's electric line voltage thermostats to get the full benefits of a ceramic baseboard heater. When combined with an electronic thermostat, you are able to feel comfortable at a lower thermostat setting which will help you save on your energy bill and enjoy reduced temperature swing. |
Question: | Sorry one more question) - has anyone compared the 500w and 720w? Is the latter warmer? Thank you in advance |
Answer: | The major difference is in the heating element. The ceramic heating element has a ceramic core. The core holds heat, slowing the on/off cycling of the unit. The more expensive unit is a bit more rugged in construction. Both will provide the same heat for the same wattage; both should last a long time. Generally the cheaper heaters are used in apartments and commercial construction where every penny counts. |
Question: | Can this be installed beneathe a carpet directly on top of oak hardwood floors? My concern is damaging the oak floorboards |
Answer: | You will need to install a thermostat (sold separately) to turn the unit on or off. The BKT1A/BKT1BW or BKT2A/BKT2BW are our baseboard thermostats which are designed to work with this model are offered in a single or double pole configuration and available in colors white and almond. |
Question: | Can it be plugged into a timer? How long is the electric cord from the 5'9" square mat |
Answer: | This heater does not have a running fan. It is designed to run quietly and efficiently using convection heat. |

Answer: | No, the King Electric PSH2440TB is made in China. |
Question: | can it be set on shelf or floor |
Answer: | The floor would probably be better. |
Question: | where is the thermostat/temp control knob on the unit |
Answer: | On the back of the unit. It is not calibrated for a specific temperature set, but in my experience turning the knob about 1/2 way will shut off the heater coils at about 65 degrees. |
Question: | what is the voltage rating |
Answer: | 240/208V |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can heater be installed in floor |
Answer: | The heater is designed to be installed in the wall 4" above the floor. It would not be recommended being installed in the floor. |
Question: | I just received my new heater. Are the interior components supposed to be connected to the can with just one screw? It seems a bit insecure |
Answer: | there are a couple tabs down on the bottom of the unit that hold that part in- seems to be solid |
Question: | How do you wire this up for 250 or 500 watts? i only need it to pul between 250-500 as the space i am heating is small and power is very limted |
Answer: | This can be wired for several wattages during installation, including 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1250 and 1500 watts. Please see installation guide included with the heater for requirements. |
Question: | How long do these typically last? i have an older dec2422 from 2009 that i may need to replace already |
Answer: | I have five of these that I installed as part of room by room remodels starting in 1998-99, replacing old baseboard heaters. One is a 120v and the rest are this model. We vacuum them occasionally, and twice a year we pull the grills off and clean them more thoroughly. All but one are doing fine. The one that is starting to fail is in our main bathroom. We think it's failing due to all the moisture in there since we have three teens lined up every morning for hot showers. Even then, that one's lasted 14 or 15 years, and we're replacing it with another just like it as part of a larger remodel (along with better ventilation). All the other heaters are working fine, including the ones we bought in the late 90's. I'm happy with these heaters, and plan to stick with the King brand. |
