Answer:	The chair will hold the weight. Probably after the age of eight a child might lose interest. An adult can sit in the chair. You turn your legs to a comfortable position. The set is small. My great granddaughter is two and she really likes having her own table. I cannot recommend a larger set. I haven't looked for one.

Answer:	yes the table she/he writes on lifts up and there is also to places on the side to hold paper it holds her coloring books. If you are talking secure where he/she can not be able to touch with out you then no.

Answer:	Well, I bought this for my 2 year old great grand-daughter and it's perfect! She has a 6 year old brother who can sit at it and work, but he's slim and of average height! So the call would be up to you. If your 8 eight year old is tall or average weight, I would say NO! But it is an adorable, sturdy work table. I wish they made one for adults because I would have one, myself ...
