Answer:	I didn't realize until I read the previous answer that the left side is wider - 23". The right is 19-1/2". I find it plenty roomy for monitor, keyboard, two phones, modem, notebooks and sundry stuff, plus my right elbow and forearm. I work from home and find it very comfortable. Big plus - it gives you about 30" for your knees.

If it doesn't just respond to this and I will try to explain better. For an inexpensive, ikea style desk, this desk is ok. If you're going to put it together and never move it, it is great. It does feel pretty nice and sturdy. I just wouldn't try to pick it up without one person on each corner. I bought it to put in a true work office that would see heavy use. Answer:	Not high gloss: if compared to interior wall paint, it's slightly a step above matte but feels smooth, not chalky like a matte wall paint does. There is faint tiny pebbling, not noticeable unless you look carefully (does not affect writing on a single sheet of paper where the desk surface would impact your writing if it were not smooth).
