Answer:	My stool measures 14 x 14. I don't know why it was described as 10 x 14. Must be a mistake.

Answer:	You need to make sure you have the legs in correctly first. There are 2 legs that go in diagonally then the other two legs go diagonally from each other. This will give you the wholes that match for the short and long cross pieces. If the legs are in the incorrect place then the wholes will not match up. Hope this helps. Keep in mind that the seat width reduces it's width as it extends toward the base of the back to about 12". Width of the back at its peak is about 17.5"
