Answer: No. Few of these kind of loft beds seem to. So you do have to find one that fits the configuration you need -- I was surprised that manufacturers don't make mirror versions of these products.

Answer: We own it and virtually none is solid wood. Only the slats that go under the mattress. We also had the metal rail that the slats sit on break out of the side that the ladder is on , at 3 of the 5 attachment points. Lucky my son wasn't big enough for the other 2 points to give way.
