Answer:	Learning proper self-myofascial release techniques (such as with a foam roller) and then stretches does the most for a pinched nerve. The nerve gets pinched from either a tight muscle or bone, if it’s in joint. Naturally, relieving the pressure on the nerve will reduce the pain. The muscle can only stretch as far as the fascia, which wraps around and through the muscle, will allow. If the fascia is tight, no amount of trying to stretch the muscle will help, anymore than one could stretch and move while wearing a wetsuit that is 3 sizes too small. If your “scuba suit”, (your fascia, which is like a 3-D web of your body, wrapping around and through the muscles) is dehydrated and tight, that subsequently puts pressure and tension on your muscles and bones, basically squeezing it. Fascia is much too overlooked, especially with issues like a pinched nerve. Even a chiropractic adjustment will be ineffective and everything pulled back out of alignment if the fascia and muscles are tight, and if the muscles are unbalanced, that is, too weak to hold the body in proper alignment, and other muscles too strong, in comparison to the weaker ones, keeping the body out of alignment. Usually people strengthen the “vanity muscles”, ignoring the smaller muscles that keep the joints protected and the body in alignment. One should build the body from the inside out, not just with nutrition, but structurally. The muscles around the frame should be strengthened first, then the more visible muscles. The larger muscles will overpower the smaller ones and not let them do their job, resulting in joint injuries and alignment issues and pinched nerves, etc. Some pinched nerve pain can be resolved by stretching the muscles that are pinching it, then for long-term relief, addressing the fascia and muscle balance issues. It’s painful to watch people try to stretch their muscles before a workout-when their muscles are not warmed up whatsoever, and they’ve not addressed their fascia first. One wouldn’t try to stretch a stick of gum if it were dry and cold, and muscles and fascia also need the same consideration. A fascia release and muscle stretching program such as NASM provides, and Sue Hitzman and her MELT program which she designed, would help people with all sorts of musculoskeletal sizes, pinched nerves, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis (Sue has a great solution there). Those are the things that really help a pinched nerve and help avoid surgery entirely as well.

Answer:	As a massage mat with heat it works very well, but if you're looking for additional padding to sleep on I would suggest looking into other options. The mechanical parts inside the mat can be felt and are not something I would want to sleep on.
