D2 (ergocalciferol) can be found, in some plants/fungus. D3 (cholecalciferol) is the sunlight form, and can also be obtained from animals that manufactured it through their skin, like that in fish liver. Since the body can produce this it's actually considered a hormone and not a vitamin. D regulates calcium and phosphorus in the body.Some feel that D3 is more effective in humans than D2. D3 can be obtained after 10-15 minutes of sun exposure (without sunscreen) and is recommended 3-4 times a week. For those that can't get this sun exposure, supplements are a recommended substitute. The current RDA on D3 is 1,000 IU's a day for those over the age of 20.

Answer:	If this product is not, the Biotech Pharmacal - D3-5 (5,000 Iu) - 250 Count has stated that it is certified halal. It's the one I take and is available on amazon.

Answer:	Vitamin D3 is not beneficial by itself. In order to get the benefits, one must have a proper combination of Vitamins A, D and K2 as well as sufficient Magnesium. Of the three, K2 is absolutely essential and you really can't get too much of it. Magnesium is abundant in leafy greens, nuts, fish, beans, and chocolate. Vitamin K2 is primarily found in hard (raw) cheeses - also a good source of calcium, pasture raised egg-yolks, and fermented vegetables such as Natto and Kim-chi. One should take at least 100 mcg K2, for every 1000 IU Vitamin D3. Vitamin A toxicity - particularly the retinols found in animal and fish liver is a concern, however, the body should be able to regulate how much A it converts from carotenoids. Sweet potatoes, carrots, and dark leafy greens are the best sources of carotenoids. Therefore, for heart and bone health: Get adequate direct sunshine (D) and eat plenty of leafy green and orange root vegetables (A and magnesium), hard cheeses from raw milk (K2 and calcium) and fermented vegetables (K2). OR take 1000 - 5000 IU Vitamin D3, 100 - 400 mcg Vitamin K2 as Mk-7, and a magnesium supplement if you are missing any of the natural methods for getting those nutrients (most of us don't get enough sun).

Answer:	NO!! Beware because this product (black/yellow label) does show up on a search for Vegan Vitamin D, but it is definitely NOT VEGAN, NOT VEGETARIAN, and contains animal by-products. The good news, SR does have a vegan D3 formula, which I've been taking for a while and it is great (as of 2020 it is a black/green label).
