That Nasty Stomach Bug

“Stomach flu” is the term used to describe gastroenteritis, one of the most common causes of vomiting and diarrhea in young children. It is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines, which can be caused by several different viruses. The main symptoms are nausea, vomiting and diarrhea — generally lasting about two days. While the stomach flu can strike at any time throughout the year, it tends to be more prevalent during the winter months when children are in close contact with one another. In addition to keeping Nauzene Kids in your medicine cabinet, you can also prepare for stomach upsets by having an emergency bucket, towels and hand sanitizer stored together within easy reach as you head to your child’s bedside.

Care & Comfort

Stomach flu can be scary for kids. Providing care as calmly as possible can help ease their distress. Small comforts can help reassure your child everything will be okay. Try having your child cuddle with their favorite stuffy; read a story together to take their mind off their stomach discomfort; watch a favorite movie or TV show to help pass the time.

It’s important to replenish the fluids lost through vomiting and diarrhea. Even between trips to the bathroom, give small sips of water regularly.
