Long story short, I will no longer be getting this brand, citrate is not the way to go, it may contain arsenic (as one person mentions in the reviews and questions that third party testers found it). Mag citrate actually pulls water into your intestines, which can lead to dehydration. What’s worse, this type of magnesium can reduce ceroplasmin levels, leading to mineral imbalances and deficiencies. Finally, there is evidence that the most popular magnesium citrate on the market may contain high levels of arsenic (the original reason our family ditched it several years ago). Magnesium hydroxide- like magnesium citrate, magnesium hydroxide moves the bowels by drawing water into the colon. In addition, side effects include nausea, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Magnesium aspartate and glutamate- because the amino acids aspartate and glutamate are excitotoxins, it’s important they do not become imbalanced. | Answer: | 2nd part, for my fellow anxious people: (And btw, I have ended up buying this for others as well, on auto-ship, too. It’s an absolute must for myself and others, including the girl at the grocery who also swore by it for her anxiety.) Sleep deprivation also increases anxiety. These are simple, but huge factors in anxiety attacks. It’s why I take the allergy med, to go to sleep and stay asleep, so I have less anxiety. Walking it off helps some, too, unless your heart is racing and you’re already sleep deprived, dehydrated, and exhausted. Then it just makes it worse for me. I have to be calm already, or not past that point of no return. Then walking or exercise in general helps the long term effects. But making your heart race when you’re already extremely anxious doesn’t help, not for me, anyway. *Sometimes sufficient water and electrolytes, a decongestant if your lungs or sinuses are congested, and some rest is all you need to get things working right again*, so don’t freak that it’s something serious. It usually isn’t. And read the decongestant labels. Some have ingredients that make anxiety worse. I had to use the 4 hr, and not the 12 hr of the type I got. The 12 hour had something that increases heart rate/blood pressure. Just some things that affected mine and have been mentioned on medical pages, not professional medical advice from me. I hate to see anyone have anxiety and nowhere to turn. It often hits people late at night, when others are asleep and there’s no help. There’s always a 24/7 prayer line out there, for those who are in an extreme situation. None of the 24/7 anxiety and panic attack phone lines listed were EVER open when I called them. NONE. | Answer: | Reading the labels, this product has changed. When I bought it last month, it took two capsules to yield 288 mg of elemental magnesium from 1,800 mg magnesium citrate. The new product says each capsule is 500 mg magnesium citrate. That would mean that two capsules would be 1,000 mg magnesium citrate and if it yields the same amount of elemental magnesium we would only get 160 mg of elemental magnesium. This new formulation would seem to deliver only 55.6% of what the old formulation did. To add insult to injury, the price has increased. |

| Answer: | Magnesium Citrate and magnesium glycinate have equal bio-availability. Taking more than 150 Mg of magnesium citrate per day (36% of RDA) is not recommended because of the potential of this form of magnesium to cause diarrhea. Additionally, most magnesium citrate uses citrate from mold grown on corn. For the record, most people allergic to peanuts are actually allergic to the mold that is common on peanuts, and most people allergic to strawberries are actually allergic to the mold commonly on strawberries. If you do not have any mold allergies, taking one of these capsules per day (providing 32% of RDA) to prevent constipation should be safe. It is safe to take larger amounts of magnesium glycinate, which is the most highly recommended for constipation and anxiety issues resulting in insomnia. 400 Mg of magnesium glycinate provides 96% of the RDA of magnesium. Magnesium malate provides 18% of RDA for 500 Mg. It is the best form of magnesium for energy metabolism. Typically, a person taking magnesium malate would take 1500 Mg of magnesium malate, providing 54% of RDA. Magnesium taurate is best for heart and brain health, including migraines. With magnesium taurate 1500 Mg provides less than 29% of RDA. Magnesium oxide is about 4% bio-available. | Answer: | Yes they are difficult to swallow. I've been taking these for 8 years and Solgar upped the dosage milligrams to 420 in early 2020. The tablets are much larger and very difficult to swallow. Interestingly, many stores have stopped carrying them recently due to customer complaints and returns. Hopefully, Solgar will go back and begin manufacturing the 400 mg dosage again as that size was much easier to swallow. In the meantime, I'm using other brands. |

Beware that many references refer to doses of magnesium citrate in terms of the mg of magnesium in the magnesium citrate, just as it's specified on this label. Taking 210 mg of total magnesium citrate would not provide a therapeutic dose of magnesium (it would provide less than 24 mg magnesium). This supplement also contains an undisclosed amount of magnesium stearate, which is listed under "other ingredients". |
