10 best crutch for adults
Crutches for adults are mobility aids designed to provide support and assistance to individuals who have difficulty walking or have limited mobility due to injury, surgery, or a medical condition. Here's what you need to know about crutches for adults in the context of mobility aids and medical supplies:
Types of Crutches:
- There are several types of crutches available to accommodate different needs and preferences: a. Underarm Crutches: These are the most common type and feature padded underarm rests for support. They are typically used for temporary mobility issues. b. Forearm Crutches (Lofstrand or elbow crutches): These crutches have cuffs that encircle the forearm and handles to grip. They provide increased stability and are often used for long-term mobility support. c. Platform Crutches: These crutches have a platform instead of a handgrip, allowing users to rest their forearms on the platform for support.
Sizing and Adjustability:
- Proper sizing and adjustment are crucial for comfort and safety when using crutches.
- Crutches should be adjusted to the user's height, allowing a slight bend at the elbow when holding the handgrips.
- Some crutches offer adjustable settings to accommodate various user heights.
Weight Capacity:
- Crutches are designed with specific weight capacity limits. Users should ensure that the crutches they choose can support their body weight safely.
Accessories and Features:
- Many crutches come with additional features and accessories, such as padded handgrips for comfort, non-slip tips for stability, and arm cuffs with adjustable straps.
- Some crutches may also include attachments like crutch bags or pouches for carrying personal items.
Proper Usage:
- Users should receive proper training on how to use crutches safely and efficiently to avoid accidents and further injury.
- Crutches should be placed slightly in front and to the side of the user, and weight should be distributed evenly between the crutches and the unaffected leg.
- Regular maintenance, such as checking for loose parts or damaged tips, is important for safety.
Duration of Use:
- Crutches are often used during the recovery period following surgery or an injury.
- For individuals with long-term mobility challenges, forearm crutches are a more comfortable and ergonomic option compared to traditional underarm crutches.
Mobility Aid Alternatives:
- While crutches are effective for many people, individuals with more severe mobility issues may consider other options, such as walkers, rollators, or wheelchairs, depending on their specific needs.
In summary, crutches for adults are essential mobility aids that provide support and assistance to individuals with mobility challenges. They come in various types and sizes, and proper fitting and usage are crucial for user safety and comfort.Crutches can significantly improve mobility and independence during the recovery process or for individuals with ongoing mobility limitations.

Fitting Guide: 1. Crutch Height: To foot-piece clockwise 1/4", and pull the foot-piece down until the bottom is at the desired patient height. Rotate the foot-piece counter-clockwise to lock leg in place. 2. Handgrip: Adjust the handgrip so there is a slight bend at the patient's elbow (approximatively 100). Set and tighten the adjusting bolts. 3. Check fit: With the bottom of the crutches slightly outside and in front of the patient's feet, the patient should be able to lean forward comfortably, resting on the underarm supports. Crutches should not be so long that the patient must stand completely erect. Caution: Have your doctor or therapist demonstrate the proper use. User questions & answers
Question: | Are these covered under medicare and/or medicaid insurance plans? what code or rx would be required by my md to help insure highest coverage |
Answer: | If they are medically necessary, you should be able to get them through your insurance. I would contact your insurance provider to see what you need to do to get them paid for through your insurance. |
Question: | Can these be returned? Is there a warranty |
Answer: | Please visit our website for Warranty information. |
Question: | Do these work well for one leg amputees |
Answer: | I’m not an amputee so can’t answer this from that perspective. I have an Robbie that doesn’t straighten post 90 degrees and a shoulder that suffered bone and soft tissue damage. I have used these style of crutches and this particular one, every time I’ve had leg injuries. I used it for 9 weeks when I was non weight bearing. It is definitely the most comfortable crutch I have ever used. It took all the pressure of my elbow and shoulder. |
Question: | What's the weight of these |
Answer: | Together, in the box, the crutches weigh 9lbs. Individually, each is 3.06 lbs. |

User questions & answers
Question: | at 5'2" and 110 lbs, should I order the adult or child size? also, are the hand grips and cuffs black for all sizes |
Answer: | I ordered the adult size for a 18 year old who is 5:4 and 150 pounds. They are adjustable and light weight, not quite sure if grips are black on all crutches. I hope this helps. |
Question: | If I want to buy replacement tips for these crutches, what size do I need to buy? Also, will these tips fit: http://www.amazon.com/Hi-Trac-Industries |
Answer: | 7/8" fit perfectly. I just got mine. |
Question: | I ordered these forearm crutches for my mother, but when I received only 1 crutch inside instead the box. Isn't this supposed to be 2 crutches |
Answer: | I did the same thing. I was under the impression that it came with two and only received one. You have to put quantity 2 in order to get 2 of them. |
Question: | Does anyone have any suggestions for adjusting the size of the cuffs? I have thin arms and the cuffs are way too big |
Answer: | I use two zip ties (hooked end to end) to go around the "bent out" area at the end of one of the cuffs. I can easily slip my hands in and out, and when I lift the crutches, without holding on, they do not fall off my arms. And the plastic zip ties hey last forever. Hope this helps |

- ♥ IMPROVES BODY POSTURE: The feeling of stability and balance increases because the free hand crutches forces you to walk upright, with your shoulders straight and your arms close to the trunk.
- ♥ REDUCE YOUR ENERGY EXPENDITURE: These forearm crutches allow you to move faster than conventional crutches. With a larger walking perimeter, energy consumption is lower.
- ♥ REDUCES SHOULDER PAIN: The pressure that shoulders have to deal is less aggressive since the PATENTED cushioning system absorbs part of the impact. You have to get used to the flexible spring, but that makes the shoulder joints less painful.
- ♥ INCREASES AUTONOMY: The flexible crutches strap allows to use our hands without removing our ergonomic crutches, for example, for opening a door or using a mobile phone. The strap can be placed on both sides of the crutch, but we recommend using the opening of the strap to the outside for comfort and ease of donning and removing the crutch. User questions & answers
Question: | I need crutch for a long terms. I weigh 289lb do you sell crutches that hold 300lb. does the arm and legs adjust I'm 6 ft tall.I want new crutches |
Answer: | My husband used these - he is 6'3" and was about 200 lbs at the time he needed them (recovering from spinal injury). I don't know what they are weighted for though |
Question: | can the forearm cuffs be adjusted at all, or do they sell pads to go in them |
Answer: | The firearm cuffs are not adjustable. They don't come with pads. I'm pretty sure that you can purchase pads for them. |
Question: | would these crutches work for a 5'6" person |
Answer: | The crutches I have would not work for that height but they can be ordered to accommodate a specific height. |
Question: | Hi the hand grip is it harc plastic |
Answer: | My grips were thick foam not plastic, they supported me well were durable. I am 6'4" was 310 poounds at the time. The forearm piece is a rubber like material. You need to adjust each side to fit. My right forearm is larger then my left i squeezed the left one to fit. Due to the way I was initially walking neede one side longer than the other. I used a permanent marker marker an R and L on the top end cap to keep from mixing them up. I did need to replace the bottom rubber pieces after two months not an issue they cost under $5 for the pair at the local pharmacy. I don't need them any more I have donated them to the local VFW they are still getting used by big guys and holding up well. A great buy!! |
