14 best bed monitors

Bed monitors are devices designed to enhance safety and provide assistance to individuals, particularly those with mobility issues or medical conditions, in a bedroom setting. They are commonly used in healthcare facilities, long-term care facilities, and home healthcare situations. Here's what you need to know about bed monitors:

  1. Purpose: Bed monitors serve multiple purposes, primarily focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals in bed. They can alert caregivers or healthcare providers to various events or situations, such as falls, bed exits, or changes in a person's position.

  2. Types:

    • Bed Exit Alarms: These monitors are designed to alert caregivers or healthcare staff when a person attempts to exit the bed. They often include pressure-sensitive pads or weight-sensing mechanisms that trigger an alarm when pressure is removed from the bed.
    • Position Change Alarms: These monitors are used to notify caregivers when an individual changes their position in bed. This is particularly useful for patients at risk of pressure sores or ulcers who need to shift their weight regularly.
    • Fall Detection Alarms: Some bed monitors are equipped with fall detection capabilities. They can sense sudden movements or falls from the bed and trigger an alarm to summon assistance.
    • Bed Rails with Alarms: Bed rails that incorporate alarm systems are designed to provide added security and can alert caregivers when the rails are lowered or when a person attempts to climb over them.
  3. Alarm Notifications: Bed monitors can emit various types of notifications, including audible alarms, visual alerts, or remote notifications to a caregiver's pager or monitor. The choice of notification method depends on the specific needs and preferences of the user and their caregivers.

  4. Ease of Use: Many bed monitors are user-friendly and can be easily set up and adjusted to suit the individual's needs. They are typically powered by batteries or connected to a power source, and some may have wireless capabilities for added convenience.

  5. Applications: Bed monitors are widely used in healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities, to enhance patient safety and reduce the risk of accidents or injuries. They are also used in home healthcare to provide peace of mind for family caregivers and ensure the safety of loved ones with mobility challenges.

  6. Regulations: Bed monitors used in healthcare settings may be subject to regulations and standards to ensure their reliability and effectiveness in patient care. These standards help maintain the quality and safety of these devices.

In summary, bed monitors, including bed exit alarms, position change alarms, and fall detection alarms, play a crucial role in enhancing the safety and care of individuals in bed, especially those with mobility issues or medical conditions. They provide caregivers and healthcare providers with timely alerts and notifications to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of the individual.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this product fit for person that under 120 lbs
Answer: When the mattress the pad is being used upon is a firm, innerspring mattress, this item will likely still work fine for someone under 120 pounds. However, if the mattress is not firm, or has anything "non-standard" about it, such as it is a TempurPedic, memory foam, or air mattress, or if there is some type of padding that has been added to the bed, this 10" x 30" sensor pad may not properly register the body at all times. This can cause false alarms, or majorly delayed alerts. You may want to consider a system with a 20" x 30" sensor pad instead, which is more effective under those scenarios, and can be purchased here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYA53BW
Question: does this have an on/off switch? is there an AC adaptor? how long do batteries last
Answer: Rob- it did have on/off. Not sure on the AC Adapter... Batteries lasted a few weeks minimum. I don't remember there being any issue with them at all.Was happy with the product. Good luck.
Question: Does this make a sound when the patient gets in the bed
Answer: No only when they get out. When I put my mom to bed I always press on it just to make sure it will sound when she gets up.
Question: The "C" batteries power the receiving alarm unit? What powers the transmitter in the pad
Answer: The transmitter inside the pad is powered by a non-replaceable lithium battery. The battery has been engineered to last the duration of the pad's life term, which is one year. Replacement pads are available separately from this system. Note that this system should always come with a one year warrantied sensor pad, not 45 or 90 days. If you ever receive anything but a one year pad, you should immediately contact Amazon and ask to return the item, as that means the seller you bought the system from is not offering the correct product. We do not recommend re-purchasing from the same seller, as you are likely to again receive the same incorrect product.

User questions & answers

Question: Is there any way, either natively or with a 3rd party add-on peripheral, to make this a dual monitor setup
Answer: Yes there are several third party single to dual vesa mount adapters that work well with this setup.
Question: I have a 28" monitor, it exceeds the 27" specs. it weighs 16.40 lbs & a 100x100mm vesa wall mount. will this work? do i need to counter balance it
Answer: I use a Laptop (Workstation) weights around 6 pounds, and a 27" Curved monitor VESA 75 x 75. If you extend your monitor straight out, Yes you will need to counterweight. As I have my layout the Laptop is totally extended in favor of tje long part of the base & the monitor half out but inside the base. Looking at a clock, Laptop full out @ 3 and Monitor half out @ 12, last arm extension turn full inward. Hope this answer your question. I'll try to edit and @ some photos in a while.
Question: I got it for my daughter for christmas .i have a question.how do they screw the metal piece in the monitor?my daugther has a hp all in one touch scree
Answer: She will need a Vesa mount adapter since hp all in one touchscreens don’t have the standard vesa mount holes on the back of the screen.
Question: Does the seller offer free return if the product doesn’t meet the expectations
Answer: Yes, The day I received the package I send them an email and in less than 3hrs they respond. And not more than 12hrs later they gave me a call (I didn't expect it) just to make sure I have any doubt or anything and they reminded me several times about the LIFETIME WARRANTY, and to never hesitate to get in touch for whatever the reason I need. Smart Caregiver Cordless Floor Mat Pressure Pad with Economy Cordless Alarm (No Alarm in Patient's Room), Gray, 24” x 48”

Product description

High quality cordless floor mat, features beveled edges and non slip surface, which helps to avoid slipping or catching with the foot or a walker. Floor mat sends a wireless to the alarm monitor which can be up to 150’ – 300’ feet away. Always test first to make sure monitor receives signal and to make sure you do not have anything that interferes with the signal. One of the great benefits of this system is that it allows the caregiver to relax and sleep, knowing they won't miss their patient trying to get up or go out! System operates on 3 C batteries, (not included) But to reduce the amount of batteries you will use for your alarm, you might wish to purchase an AC adapter for this alarm unit.

  • Cordfree 24" x 48" floor alarm mat means there is no alarm noise in patient's room.
  • When floor mat is stepped on, a signal is sent to the alarm monitor which has a radius of up to 150’ – 300’.
  • Place the floor pressure mat by the side of the bed or across a doorway so you will know when they are trying to get up or leave a room.
  • Alarm features three volume levels and an on/off switch. Approximately 5" tall and uses 3 'C' batteries. But to reduce the amount of batteries you will use for your alarm, you might wish to purchase an AC-04 adapter for this alarm unit.
  • Reset the floor mat alarm using the “off” button on the alarm monitor.

User questions & answers

Question: How much weight has to be applied before the alarm goes off
Answer: Not much pressure is required to set off the alarm but it does seem to be "delayed" by about five to ten seconds. If your "patient" moves fairly quickly they may be already out the door before you can get to them. I also found after using this mat a couple of weeks that the alarm did not always sound. I don't know if the mat was defective or the wireless signal was faulty. I had to stop using the mat and switch to a wireless motion sensor.
Question: I know you can turn the monitor off. Do you turn off the mat when not in use
Answer: We do not turn off the mat. It is hard to get to, as it is in a pocket at the edge of the mat. You may be able to, but I would fear of forgetting to turn it on, and rendering it useless if you need it. The receiving unit we turn the alarm off. The adapter is well worth it for the receiving unit.
Question: How do you program a second mat? The instructions are for a different product
Answer: I only had one mat but i think if you call the seller Liberty Health Supply 1-800-991-6207 they can possibly help you.
Question: Will Mom's big fat cat trigger the alarm
Answer: I do not think so. It takes quite a bit more weight for the alarm to sound.

User questions & answers

Question: I see on the back there is a place to insert a dc 6-12 v adapter. can you use this instead of batteries
Answer: Yes you can use an adapter, but it is important to use the one made by the manufacturer for this product. There are currently two different versions of the TL-5102MP in circulation, and each of them take a different adapter. We recommend contacting the manufacturer, Smart Caregiver, at 800-650-3637 in order to determine which model you need.
Question: How does sensor work-just barrier being broken or does patient wear sensor
Answer: If barrier is broken the sensor the pager will make a very loud sound. As there was no adjustment for sound control, we always placed the pager in another room. Trust me, you will hear the sound. This device was a life saver for the family as caregivers for our father. I daresay it prevented many falls and broken bones.
Question: Does this have a narrow enough field of view to be used to monitor a front door without triggering whenever someone was walking around in the room
Answer: Absolutely. We used it to monitor my Mom's hospital bed. Dad's was right next to hers and it only alarmed when she got up. My Mom is deceased do now we use it for exactly the application you asked about. We keep it on a bar by the front door. It alarms if Dad crosses it to the door, but not while the rest of us walk around the room. Just direct the beam to the area you need as though there is a string from the device to a point across the room. This thing is very much worth the money!
Question: Has anybody used with pets? I have a cat. What would be the issues
Answer: I haven't used it with pets but with my 90 year old Mom...it is great. It is loud but that is ok since it wakes me up quickly. You can always put it under pillows to muffle the sound. It is really sensitive. I have recommended it to several caregivers. I would think it would work with pets depending on the purpose.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the monitor small enough to carry around like a pager
Answer: It is larger than a pager. It could be carried in a sweatshirt pockets or small purse. It is too large to fit into pants or shirt pockets. Roughly 5inch x 3 inch x 1 inch
Question: Directions for installation
Answer: I'm not sure what you mean by "installation". I just put the mat down on the floor next to Mom's bed and put the 3 batteries in the monitor and placed it by my bed in another room. I did purchase the adaptor for the monitor so I could leave it plugged in to an outlet so it would always have power. Turn the monitor switch to "Chime" and when you are not monitoring the mat, turn the monitor to "OFF". The monitor and mat were already synched when delivered, so it was a simple process to set up and these items. It has been a great purchase so far!
Question: What does the adapter do
Answer: Adapter? A portable unit is the only thing I know that goes off the chime
Question: Is the pad anti-slip
Answer: I can only tell you that the Smart Caregiver cordless floor mat sensor is in on a bedroom (floor). The mat is on carpeting. It does not slip on the carpeting. Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: Could i add an dditional chair alarm to this system? My dad has 2 chairs that he mainly uses during the day
Answer: You may add up to six products to the cordless alarm that you currently have which is the 433-EC.
Question: Is this made by Smart Caregiver
Answer: Ye, it is made by smart caregiver
Question: Do you recommend this product for a king sized bed
Answer: The pad size is not depending on the bed size. The 10x30 is recommended for anyone 120lbs and above. The 20x30 is recommended for anyone below 120lbs. It will work fine with a king size bed. Please the pad horizontally across the bed with the bottom of the bed pad above the person's waistline so when person does get up his or her body will be completely off the bed pad alerting the alarm monitor. This is the best way to get the quickest alert response time.
Question: Do you need to reactivate the alarm each time the person gets up? How does the alarm know if the person is on the bed or the chair
Answer: No, you do not need to reactivate the alarm. The weight of the person laying on or sitting on the pad keeps it off. When they get up and their weight is gone, the alarm sounds. When they lay on or sit back on it, the alarm goes back off. There is a button to push when the person lays down or sits on the pad. When you get them up, you push it to turn it off while they are away from the pad.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i purchase a second transmitter so I don't have to move it from the bed pad to the chair pad
Answer: You use two pads with one transmitter. Contact the provider of the product and they can walk you through it. Works great.
Question: Does it come with an alarm ? And how long is the cord
Answer: One alarm two pads... One pad for the chair and one pad for the bed. Wish it had two alarms so I didn't have to move it back and forth from room to room. The cords could be a little longer, but then someone might trip over them. The cords are long enough - one can make due. One does not need to reach an electrical socket. It uses one or two (AA or AAA) batteries. The batteries last a long time. For us - it was well worth the money. My husband is in stage 4 parkinson's with dementia and is clinically blind. He has no balance and cannot get up on his own - even though he tries from time to time. The chair / bed alarm has allowed me the freedom to move around the house and not be in the same room with him. The alarm is loud enough that I can hear it throughout the house. I also use a baby monitor - and can take the dog out or go get the mail. It amplifies the beep beep beep - so I can immediately come back in the house - knowing he is trying to get up. Easily wipes off (if necessary) - with a warm cloth. Anything else?
Question: CAn pads be purchased separately? If so, what are product numbers
Answer: I think it only comes with both pads and the sensors
Question: I don’t want my father to be able to hear the alarm, I only want the alarm to come through the receiver that with me. Is that the case with this item
Answer: The alarm is next to the chair or bed and is very loud. We mainly used this at night so we when my grandmother tried to get up when we were asleep. It's like in the hospital, they use these for the high fall risk patients so they can get there before they fall.
