Answer:	According to the instruction booklet, turn the unit off. Then press and hold the power button about 3 seconds. The display should show the sequence F / SET / C / SET. Answer:	I am not aware of a feature that let's you mute the sound; however, it is a very low tone that I sometimes have trouble hearing it so I doubt the sound would be very bothersome to you. In addition to being a soft tone, it is very quick tone so again I can't imagine that it would be very bothersome.

Answer:	Calibrated 3 ways: compared with my MD’s forehead thermometer with multiple samples. Used an electronic pen thermometer orally with multiple samples. I discovered it could be several factors: different insertion in the ear, earwax and the last time it happened to me my daughter had an ear infection in the ear with the higher reading. Answer:	Hi Cara, Yes, this unit can read in Fahrenheit and Celsius and you can use it interchangeably.

Answer:	No. As I understand it, by holding your earlobe out, it can scan the ear canal to get the temp. Mine seems to work pretty well.

Answer:	Hi WR2020, DMT-316 is newer than the DMT-489 model, however, they have the same level of accuracy. Thanks.
Question:	If we don't use it often, will the battery go dead
Answer:	All batteries have a useful lifespan regardless if there used or not due to the chemical reaction that powers them, The operation manual for this Thermometer says batteries should last 3000 cycles so assuming 10 uses a week the batteries assuming they were fresh when installed and had not set on a store shelf should last a bit over 5 1/2 years (five and a half years)
