Answer:	It is the same product with Japanese packaging. The instructions are in Japanese. If you purchase it in Japanese please know how to use it before using it.

Answer:	You do not need a cleaning mode to clean it. You simply put it in with the water and use BOIL. Then follow the instructions to let it soak. It will work just fine. We also use this in coffee makers and any hot water appliance.
