Question: Is it necessary to drill an additional hole in each crosspiece and add a bolt to keep this structure rigid
Answer: I didn’t, but it would help to add an additional screw. Mine have worked well so far with pulling the full size stacked washer dryer out a hand full of times so far this year.
Question: How much does this system add to the height of the freezer they are placed under
Answer: The thickness of the rollers are 1 1/2" by placing them on the flattest area under my freezer it increased the height of my freezer the same amount. The legs of my freezer did not factor in because these rollers ran along the sides of the legs. If I had of put the rollers under the legs then it would have raised the freezer an additional 1 1/2" , I see someone else states that the ones they got were only 1" thick, but the ones I received which look exactly like the ones in the picture are 1 1/2" thick. I hope this helps.

Answer: It will roll over dense or low pile carpet. It may sink into or hang up in thick stringy pile depending on the weight it's carrying. The wheels do not turn - they simply roll forward and back - so you would need to jockey the load to make a turn.
