Answer:	EVERY heating pad should say that in the instructions. Of course, many people do it any way but it raises the risk of you getting burned. You're trapping the heat against yourself as well as whatever surface the pad is on- bed, chair, etc. I have used a heating pad on my back for many years now, usually leaning against it and have been fine. However, I know other people who have been burned by theirs- my mother, who was receiving chemo, got a large burn on her back. Be smart about it- check the area often and allow it to cool off completely periodically if you need to lay/sit on it.
Question:	What temperatures do the three seatings heat the pad up to
Answer:	It looks like most of the other answers from 2017 and earlier showed their pads got hot, around 140 degrees, and all the answers from 2020 say the pad barely got warm. I just tried it out today and was disappointed that it wasn't getting hot. So I used my infrared digital thermometer (doesn't everyone have one due to COVID-19?) to check the temp, and the highest temp setting was only 104. Plan to return. The only thing this pad has to do is provide heat, and it doesn't.

Answer:	I am a bit confused on the term, "plastic pad" as my Theratherm heating pad has no plastic pad. If you mean the unit itself, no. It has never bunched up on me while in use. It really has helped my back problems immensely One in particular is the automatic shut off so when I fall asleep I do not get cooked or overdone. I also love the ability to select the time and temperature of the pad. Very glad I bought it.
Question:	Did anyone get this and control did not Say Thera Therm but said DJO Global? I have purchased Thera Therm in the past and love - robbed
Answer:	Not robbed, just bad luck. I've used Theratherm products professionally for 40 years and they are the best. .....by far.......... That said, right before DJO bought the brand (it's still based in Chattanooga BTW, that's where I live) the quality went way down for about a year and I almost quit using them. I have had 1 failure in 4 years since DJO purchased them, AND they re designed the controller. The new controller is more durable than the old style and FAR less suceptable to stress fractures where the wire goes into the controller-which was the point of failure on the old style controllers. Sadly, all products will have a known and predictable failure rate and thankfully, the failure rate seems to be less since DJO bought the brand. They're still the best in my opinion and I'm happy with all 5 of mine. In fact, I just am writing this as I'm ordering a 6th 14x14.

Answer:	On page 10 of the manual, caution #5 says "Do not use while sleeping. Do not sit on or crush pad. Do not wet." It doesn't say anything else about it being under you while in operation. However, on page 10 there are 13 numbered cautions on burn or skin injury. It is a terrific heating pad. My husband and I each have our own pad.

Answer:	there is no thermostat or timer. There is a hand-held on/off switch which you hold down until the thermophore gets hot enough for you. The pad can get very hot--within just a few minutes (and then retains heat) which is why you don't need a timer. I usually do a few cycles of on and off as my back releases its tension/pain. It is a great heating pad--I've used it for 15+ years, and have recommended it to others who have also been pleased with how effective it is.

Answer:	The reason is for SAFTY. Some people may get skin burns by laying on top of a steady heat source like a heating pad ("slow cooking"), which can get HOTTER over time if laid upon. Their usual (Buyer Beware) claim for "safety" is an "auto-shut off" which cuts in at about 2 hours. Some folks can get COOKED from 2 hours of time laying on an electric heating pad, and the pain is SEVERE! Electric heating pads should REALLY have MUCH shorter shut-off times, especially for immobile, elder, chronically ill, etc. people. MUCH SAFER TO LAY ON A HEAT THERAPY SOURCE THAT SLOWLY GETS COOLER, like hot water bottles, and the clay thermal pads. They are as hot as they're going to get right up front, with far more SAFETY than electric pads. Physical Therapy Professionals usually limit heat treatments to 20 minutes, for good reasons, proven by decades of Professional Medical Experience. BTW, yes, I do use electric pads, but ONLY UNDER THEM...NOT ON TOP! Also, be Very Careful of electric heating pads used on your bed, if your Beloved Pet, especially the heat-loving Feline variety, likes to sleep with you. Answer:	Yes, and you will need to wash it to remove the awful petroleum smell after opening. I handwashed it in the sink with 2tbs. Tide and 1/4 cup of ammonia for a couple of minutes and then rinsed well. It significantly reduced the smell to a tolerable level. Good thing because the brace works very well, better without the bad smell too!

Answer:	Yes!!! What do you want to do? Scald yourself? It gets plenty warm on 6, and perfect for animal heating with covers on 3-4. Forget the meat thermometer answer! It will get hot enough to burn you if you’re not alert and you choose to set it manually and not auto-shut-off. It happened to me, though it just hurt for a couple days without a wound. So, that’s enough! I use it to warm myself up in the evening and keep the heat at 65 degrees throughout winter to save money. Why heat the entire house? This doesn’t cost as much as electric or gas heat in the long run. And the company is AWESOME!!!! Totally customer service oriented... responsive. You can’t go wrong with this product!

Question:	Does this heating pad have auto shut off
Answer:	The one I bought in August 2019 has the option of auto shut-off or manual override... and will stay on indefinitely. I just hope it still has this function as it’s needed to keep my elderly cat warm throughout the night. I set it at either 3-4 depending on the blankets I use over it. 6 is too hot for her, even though cats and dogs have normal temps at approximately 4 degrees higher than humans... that’s why they feel so great in our laps! This is a MUST for heating pads for animal care use. Remember though, to always allow the animal a way to get away from the heat if needed - use on only half the cage (if caged) but allow burrowing ability on the non- heated side too. It’s a shame that other companies don’t offer this... as heating pads are used in many ways. A 2 hour shut off is great for preventing burns to elderly, non-aware or forgetful humans, but useless for any other need! When the pad failed, after Amazon return period, they provided a new set, shipped quickly and didn’t require a return. The pad is used at least 5 days a week for hours and has functioned perfectly ever since replacement- over a year ago. Great, responsive company... no hassle.
