12 best nasal washs
Nasal washes, also known as nasal irrigation or nasal rinses, are a common practice in sinus medicine and allergy sinus asthma care. They involve flushing the nasal passages with a saline solution to help relieve congestion, reduce allergy symptoms, and improve overall sinus health. Here's what you need to know about nasal washes:
Purpose: Nasal washes are primarily used to:
Clear Nasal Congestion: They can help clear mucus and debris from the nasal passages, which is beneficial for individuals with allergies, colds, or sinusitis.
Reduce Allergy Symptoms: Nasal irrigation can wash away allergens like pollen, dust, and pet dander, reducing allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and congestion.
Prevent Infections: It may help prevent upper respiratory infections by flushing out viruses and bacteria from the nasal passages.
Improve Breathing: By keeping the nasal passages clear, nasal washes can improve airflow and make breathing easier, especially for people with chronic sinus issues.
Methods: Nasal washes can be performed using various methods, including:
Neti Pot: A small pot designed for nasal irrigation, typically used with a saline solution.
Nasal Spray: Some over-the-counter nasal sprays come pre-filled with a saline solution for easy use.
Nasal Irrigation Devices: Specialized devices like the NeilMed Sinus Rinse or squeeze bottles are available for more controlled irrigation.
Saline Solution: The key ingredient in nasal washes is a saline solution, which is typically a mixture of salt and warm water. The salt concentration should closely match that of the body's natural fluids to avoid irritation.
Safety Precautions:
Always use distilled or sterile water for nasal irrigation to prevent the risk of infection from impurities in tap water.
Follow proper cleaning and maintenance instructions for reusable devices to avoid contamination.
Frequency: The frequency of nasal washes can vary depending on individual needs. Some people use them daily as part of their allergy or sinus management, while others may use them less frequently.
Consultation: If you have severe or chronic sinus issues, allergies, or respiratory conditions, it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any nasal wash regimen. They can provide guidance on the best approach and may recommend specific products or medications.
Nasal washes can be a helpful and safe way to alleviate sinus congestion and allergy symptoms when used correctly. However, it's essential to use them as directed and consult a healthcare provider if you have any concerns or medical conditions related to your sinuses or allergies.

Mixture Packets Box Contains: 100 Regular Premixed Packets of pH Balanced Sodium Chloride & Sodium Bicarbonate Mixture (USP Grade, Natural Ingredients, Isotonic, Preservative Free & Iodine Free) Educational Brochure Instructions in English, Spanish or French What is the difference between Hypertonic (green) and Isotonic (blue) packets? This Green colored packet will make a Hypertonic (higher concentration) solution when mixed with 8 oz. (240 ml.) of water. It can also make an isotonic solution, equivalent to our regular blue colored packet, if mixed with 16 oz. (480 ml.) of water. Our regular product, the blue colored packet, makes an isotonic solution in 8 oz. (240 ml.) of water (using our SINUS RINSE bottle or other measuring devices). It is strongly recommended to use this Green packet only under the advice of your physician or using your judgment. A few research reports, plus feedback from some physicians and customers have reported additional benefits from using a hypertonic solution. If you experience any intolerable burning or stinging, please discontinue the use of the hypertonic solution. In my opinion, apart from transient, mild burning, it will not cause any permanent damage with a few uses. With time, you will be able to judge as far as what concentration of saline works best for you. What is the difference between the Pediatric Kit and the regular kit? NeilMed s Pediatric Sinus Rinse bottle has a volume capacity of 4 oz. (120 ml.), and an aperture (opening) on top of the cap of 3/32 in. (2.5 mm). Our Regular Sinus Rinse bottle has a volume capacity of 8 oz. (240 ml.) and an aperture (opening) on top of the cap of 3/16 in. (4.5 mm). Both systems are designed to give the same concentration of solution. Children or adults who feel that the volume of the regular 8 oz. (240 ml.) bottle with the 3/16 in. (4.5 mm) cap is too large, should consider trying the pediatric kit. The therapeutic benefits will be identical. Please do not use our regular blue colored. Suggested age - 10 years and up.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are the packets square (like in the product photo) or are they tube shaped |
Answer: | Neti pots & other nasal irrigation devicesMany people use Alkalol in neti pots and other rinse devices. Some tips to remember:An Alkalol Nasal Wash Cup holds 1 fluid ounce. Many neti pots hold 8 fl oz. Simply follow the directions above, adjusting the amount accordingly. When using a neti pot, or other large-volume irrigation device, we recommend mixing Alkalol with a salt water solution instead of plain water to ensure the best experience. Too much plain water in the mix can cause a burning sensation.Wash and dry your hands before using your nasal rinse device and make sure you clean and dry your nasal rinse device before and after use. |
Question: | how much water is it mixed with |
Answer: | Amazon itself is not selling this item. It is offered only by third-party sellers like myself (who buy it at places like Walmart). :) My typical customer is someone who doesn't live close to a Walmart, or perhaps doesn't drive, or maybe leads an extremely busy lifestyle and needs to pay someone to shop for them. That is essentially what they are doing when they buy from me - pay me to shop for them. My price on this item is currently $24.98, so after Amazon takes out $6.70 in fees, I'm left with a couple dollars to compensate me for my time to buy it, list it and ship it to Amazon's warehouse. It may seem a little crazy, but this is how I feed my family. Thanks for asking! Hope I cleared things up for you. |
Question: | Does each premixed packet contain powder or liquid? I.e. do I need to mix the contents with water before use |
Answer: | These are more than just salt. The baking soda buffers the saline solution, making it less irritating. I see no reason you can't gargle with this, but cheap table salt is probably at least as good. You can make the same thing a lot cheaper with pure salt (not iodized or with preservatives) and baking soda, but these single-use packets are convenient and cost only ~10 cents/use. |
Question: | what is the net content weight for each packet they are not marked |
Answer: | These contain 2.3 g of sodium and 0.7 g of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) per packet. Neil med contains 2.0 g of sodium plus not-listed baking soda. To be isotonic with the blood's usual max. of 0.145M sodium concentration, there should be a max. of 2.01 g of sodium per 8 fluid oz. of water (yes, I am a certified master chemist with a graduate degree from IIT). Overdoing it by 15% -as is done here- should be negligible and possibly beneficial since it would tend to make blood vessels push out liquid and reduce pressure but it's probably dilute enough to not have any effect. Note that 0.7 g of baking soda increases the molar concentration of sodium by only 0.02, which is negligible. |

- For your safety, do not use tap or faucet water for dissolving the mixture unless it has been previously boiled for five minutes or more as boiling sterilizes the water. Other choices are distilled, micro-filtered (through 0.2 micron), commercially bottled or, as mentioned earlier, previously boiled water cooled to lukewarm or body temperature.
- Each device must be used only by one user; do not share this product with others
- Follow the cleaning protocol after each use of the product

- Always rinse your nasal passages with NeilMed SINUS RINSE packets only. Our packets contain a mixture of USP grade sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate. These ingredients are of the purest quality available to make the dry powder mixture. Rinsing your nasal passages with only plain water without our mixture will result in a severe burning sensation as the plain water is not physiologic for your nasal lining, even if it is appropriate for drinking. Additionally, for your safety, do not use tap or faucet water for dissolving the mixture unless it has been previously boiled for five minutes or more as boiling sterilizes the water. Other choices are distilled, micro-filtered (through 0.2 micron), commercially bottled or, as mentioned earlier, previously boiled water at lukewarm or body temperature. You can store boiled water in a clean container for seven days or more if refrigerated. Do not use non-chlorinated or non-ultra (0.2 micron) filtered well water unless it is boiled and then cooled to lukewarm or body temperature. Do not rinse if your nasal passages are completely blocked or if you have an ear infection or blocked ears. If you have had recent ear or sinus surgery, contact your physician prior to irrigation. If you experience any pressure in the ears or burning in the nasal passages, stop irrigation and get further directions from your physician. Keep out of reach of children. Read and retain this enclosed brochure for instructions and other important information.
- Always Use Distilled or Micro-Filtered (through 0.2 micron) or Commercially Bottled or Previously Boiled & Cooled Down Water at Lukewarm or Body Temperature. Please do not use tap or faucet water when using NeilMed's nasal wash devices unless it has been previously boiled and cooled down.
- Before using the SINUS RINSE Kit for the first time, please inspect the cap, tube and bottle carefully for wear and tear. If any of the components appear discolored or cracked, please contact NeilMed to obtain a replacement. You must follow the cleaning instructions provided in this brochure or cleaning instruction card or on our website prior to each use.
- The SINUS RINSE bottle and mixture are to be used only for nasal irrigation. Do not use for any other purposes.
- Rinse your nasal passages only with NeilMed SINUS RINSE packets. Our packets contain a mixture of USP grade sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate. These ingredients are the purest quality available to make the dry powder mixture. Rinsing your nasal passages with only plain water will result in a severe burning sensation. Use distilled, micro-filtered (through 0.2 micron), commercially bottled or previously boiled & cooled down water at lukewarm or body temperature, properly mixed with NeilMed SINUS RINSE packets. Do not use tap or faucet water for dissolving the mixture unless it has been previously boiled and cooled down. Do not rinse if nasal passages are completely blocked or if you have an ear infection or blocked ears. If you have had recent ear or sinus surgery, contact your physician prior to irrigation. If you experience any pressure in the ears or burning in the nasal passages, stop irrigation and get further directions from your physician. Keep out of reach of children. Read and retain this enclosed brochure, if provided, for instructions and other important information.
- We recommend that you use the rinse ONE HOUR PRIOR to bedtime in order to avoid any residual solution dripping down the throat.
- We strongly advise against the use of our kit on children or adults who have physical limitations or mental disabilities due to developmental or acquired disorders. Adults should read the directions first before using it on their children. Keep out of reach of children. Do not swallow the solution; however, if you do so accidentally, there is no harm as the amount of sodium ingested in one swallow is insignificant.
- Patients who are unable to stand up or bend near the sink SHOULD NOT use this product. We advise you NOT to use this kit on patients who are bed bound or severely debilitated.

User questions & answers
Question: | how do i disinfect the blue tube |
Answer: | Hi Joyce, This answer is from RhinoSystems, the manufacturer of Naväge Nasal Care. Great question! The Naväge Nose Cleaner is engineered so the “before-rinse” (clean saline) and the “after-rinse” (waste saline) never touch. This makes the risk of spreading germs from one user to another relatively low. That said, the best practice hygienically is for each user to have his or her own device. However, if you are intent on sharing a Naväge Nose Cleaner, you can greatly reduce the risk of spreading germs by each user having his or her own Nasal Dock-Nose Pillow Combo. The combo includes a Nasal Dock in your choice of white or teal, and a pair of Nose Pillows in your choice of standard, small, or extra large. The combo is only $12.95, and is available on Amazon! For reference, every Naväge Nose Cleaner includes one pair of Standard Nose Pillows which according to a customer survey taken earlier this year will accommodate over 80% of Naväge users. But not all noses are created equal… -Small Nose Pillows are designed for children or individuals with very small noses; -Extra Large Nose Pillows are designed for individuals with extremely large nostrils; and -Again, standard Nose Pillows fit over 80% of Naväge users. Best regards, Brittany |
Question: | Can I premix a week's worth of this? I would like to make a big batch, then portion out through the week |
Answer: | Dear Roger, This answer is from RhinoSystems, the manufacturer of Naväge Nasal Care. Great questions. The big-picture answer is that we constantly strive to improve the customer experience. Details follow: Design Change: The earlier power button had two-stages that allowed the suction pump to be activated prior to releasing the nasal rinse. This made it possible to build up suction without water flow. The new power button (this change was made back in the fall of 2019) is single-stage so that the suction pump and water flow are activated simultaneously. Here’s why we made the change: 1. A known side effect of saline nasal irrigation is that a small percentage of practitioners occasionally experience minor ear discomfort or ear fullness. This condition usually clears up on its own in a short time and it is harmless, similar to going up a fast elevator. Based on extensive Naväge customer feedback (at the time of the design change we had sold nearly a million Nose Cleaners), we became aware that the ear discomfort side effect could become exaggerated if suction is built up without water flow, especially if the user holds the button in the suction-only position for more than a second or two. In other words, the ear discomfort side effect is significantly reduced when water flow and suction engage at the same time. 2. We ran a number of focus groups and tests to investigate further, and we came to the conclusion that building up suction prior to releasing the saline rinse does not enhance or improve the effectiveness of a Naväge irrigation cycle. We also learned that while it seemed to some that it SHOULD make a difference (i.e., be more effective), in fact when they compared the two techniques they discovered that it makes no difference at all. As a result, we concluded that for SOME users, the Naväge experience would be improved by eliminating the two-stage switch, and that for ALL users, the Nose Cleaner would be equally effective functionally with a one-stage switch. In short, no downside and all upside. So we made the change! Thank you again for your interest in Naväge Nasal Care, and please let me know how I can be of additional assistance. You can contact us directly by calling (800) 203-6400 from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., M-F, Eastern Time. We’re here to help! Best regards, Dave |
Question: | Does this product have an expiration date |
Answer: | The photo is of the box I think, the packets themselves are maybe 2" long by 1/2" wide, so that when you tear off one of the ends to pour it into the bottle/nettie pot it doesn't get all over (it pours neatly). |
Question: | Can I use this with a netti pot or other sinus was system |
Answer: | This product should be used with the NeilMed's 240 ml (8 fl. oz.) Nasal Irrigation Bottle sold initially as a kit with some of the premixed packets. Although some have indicated you should use bottled water, I use warm tap water and I do not get any burning sensation. However, my husband recently forgot to put the saline product in his 8 oz. irrigation bottle and it did, indeed, burn like holy heck. |

Using Nasopure
• Wash hands before using Nasopure.
• Keep head straight and look forward. No need to bend the neck.
• Place bottle tip into one nostril and point tip toward the back of the throat, not the eyes. Do not point tip upwards. Hold the bottle, so the water line aligns with bottle Level Lines.
• Ensure tip rests against nostril, making a tight seal.
• Take a breath and hold it, in order to block the back of your throat. While holding that breath, gently squeeze the bottle until the solution exits the opposite nostril.
• Squeeze the bottle gently, flushing solution along the nasal floor, making a U-turn, and exiting the opposite nostril.
• Exhale through the nose with mouth closed. This allows the excess solution to drain without popping your ears.
• Switch to other nostril & repeat.
• Allow nose to drain naturally. Blow nose gently. To allow any trapped solution to drain, bend forward from the waist & rotate your head from side to side.
• Read detailed instructions in full before using.
Recommendations
• Replace the bottle every 3 months.
• If ear popping occurs, blow more gently.
• Do not use immediately before bed or activity, as water may drip from the nose for several minutes after washing.
• First use, begin with Isotonic, and advance as tolerated to hypertonic for best results.
• Do not share bottles.
• Consult a doctor if symptoms worsen or if you have a significant medical condition.
• Read detailed instructions in full before using.
Warnings
• Never wash for anyone else.
• Never force a child to wash and never wash for a child!
• Never microwave plastic bottles.
• Always use sterilized, distilled or previously boiled water.
• Never use hot water for washing.
• Wash on congested side first and do not force.
• Never block the opposite nostril during washing or blowing.
• Never wash when you are completely congested (completely blocked on both sides) or have an ear infection without first consulting your physician.
• Read detailed instructions in full before using.

User questions & answers
Question: | Bought it in september, used a few times. tried to use in november. return expired. doesn’t work. can you send @new,one |
Answer: | Yes, of course. The Comezy baby nasal aspirator is absolutely safe to use on a newborn. The "Gentle" tip for newborns is included in the set. The Power suction tip also can be used on newborns with great success. Definitely a great gift. |
Question: | are the batteries included in this product |
Answer: | You can increase the power of the suction by creating a tight seal between the aspirator tip and the child's nostril. We take our customers' feedback seriously and designed a new tip that helps tremendously in that regard. Our new POWER SUCTION TIP not only helps to create a better seal at the nostril but also has a wider opening which allows for a better mucus flow and makes it easier to get those larger boogers out. Also, you can try closing the other nostril with your finger when using the aspirator to improve the suction power even further. |
Question: | has this product been modified? i was about to buy one of these products |
Answer: | Both tips are made from medical grade silicone which is extremely soft and BPA free, definitely safe to use even on a newborn. |
Question: | I have purchased 3 at the drugstore for travel because they break after 4-6 months of use, how can I make it last for everyday use? Ready to give up |
Answer: | We recommend washing them in hot soapy water. You can also use a straw cleaning tool to clean the center of the tip. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hello, my spray nozzle all of sudden stopped working. Can I get a replacement |
Answer: | This is a saline nasal spray, so very natural. If you want to add anything to it I would ask a pharmacist or a health professional. |
Question: | How do you open the nozzle |
Answer: | That depends on how much you use, it's bigger than what I got at the drug store and about 1/2 the price. If you've used saline before, I believe you will like this, it's a bargain in my opinion, and I plan to order again..good product. |
Question: | What are the ingredients? Does it have preservatives |
Answer: | Since I use both products, they are both functional and similar in terms of composition. Ayr works as a spray when used. The Major Saline solution can be used as a spray or as drops in case you want to administer the solution in that manner. I recommend both products as a sinus cancer survivor! |
Question: | Does Pharmapacks have a product illustration in English |
Answer: | 4.5 inches tall. Travels well. Good OTC medication for relief of allergic sinusitis. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use Zero-water |
Answer: | No, the infant bath will drain into the blue part, but once you are ready to move up to the bigger tub the blue part can be used as a stool, or a seat, which is how I used it. I am the grandma and this was the greatest thing for me. We used it from birth to 14 months old. I still use the blue seat. |
Question: | Do i need to wash the bottle with dishwashing soap before using the bottle for the first time |
Answer: | as pictured it is used for infants in elevated mode. the sit assist plug can be used in bottom while elevated with blue step lift |
Question: | May I ask if it is normal that every time after rinse my nose, it turned very congested. Thanks |
Answer: | Yes, there is a texture to help prevent slipping on the inside of the white tub on the Right Height Tub |
Question: | what does the Sinus Rinse Complete Kit include |
Answer: | I don't own the comfort height bathtub, and I have never actually seen one in person, so this response is heavily based on supposition of appearance. The only advantages I can see are primarily if using the tub with a very small infant. The comfort height bathtub uses an insert for this. I felt this presented a possibility for the child to possibly slip or squirm and perhaps end up between the insert and the tub, and the insert doesn't look very comfortable to me. You are also relying on the insert to attach firmly and stay in place. I don't know how the insert attaches or if this is even a real concern, but it is no concern at all in the "right height" bathtub because the small infant piece is it's own tub, not just an insert. It also appeared to be a more comfortable arrangement to me. Also, the "right height" tub appears to me to be a little taller, and when using the tub in the small infant mode (using the large tub as a base) it seems to have a wider base that offers more stability. These were my reasons for choosing the "right height" tub instead of the "comfort height", even though it is more expensive. |

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
USE ONLY AS DIRECTED, IF SYMPTOMS PERSIST SEE YOUR DOCTOR/HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL. ALWAYS READ THE LABEL.
Step 1 Please wash your hands. Fill the clean bottle with the designated volume of either distilled, micro-filtered (through 0.2 micron filter), commercially bottled or previously boiled and cooled down water. Always rinse your nasal passages with NeilMed Sinus Rinse packets only. *You may warm the water in a microwave in increments of 5 to 10 seconds to avoid overheating the water, damaging the device or scalding your nasal passage.
Step 2 Cut the Sinus Rinse mixture packet at the corner and pour its contents into the bottle. Tighten the cap and tube on the bottle securely. Place one finger over the tip of the cap and shake the bottle gently to dissolve the mixture.
Step 3 Standing in front of a sink, bend forward to your comfort level and tilt your head down. Keeping your mouth open, without holding your breath, place the cap snugly against your nasal passage. SQUEEZE BOTTLE GENTLY until the solution starts draining from the OPPOSITE nasal passage. Some may drain from your mouth. For a proper rinse, keep squeezing the bottle GENTLY until at least 1/4 to 1/2 (60 mL to 120 mL or 2 to 4 fl oz) of the bottle is used. Do not swallow the solution.
Step 4 Blow your nose very gently, without pinching nose completely to avoid pressure on eardrums. If tolerable, sniff in gently any residual solution remaining in the nasal passage once or twice, because this may clean out the posterior nasopharyngeal area, which is the area at the back of your nasal passage. At times, some solution will reach the back of your throat, so please spit it out. To help drain any residual solution, blow your nose gently while tilting your head forward and to the opposite side of the nasal passage you just rinsed.
Step 5 Now repeat steps 3 and 4 for your other nasal passage. Most users find that rinsing twice a day is beneficial, similar to brushing your teeth. Many doctors recommend rinsing 3-4 times daily or for special circumstances, even rinsing up to 6 times a day is safe. Please follow your physician’s advice.
Step 6 Clean the bottle and cap. Air dry the Sinus Rinse bottle, cap, and tube on a clean paper towel, a lint free towel, or use NeilMed NasaDOCK or NasaDOCK plus (sold separately) to store the bottle, cap and tube.
It is very important to keep these devices clean and free from any contamination.Replace the bottle every 3 months.
- Dishwasher Cleaning: Do not use a dishwasher to clean the inside of a bottle. While our bottle is dishwasher safe, a dishwasher will not adequately clean the SINUS RINSE bottle. The water jets in dishwashers cannot enter the narrow neck of the bottle, and portions of the bottle's interior will not be cleaned thoroughly. Additional methods of cleaning the bottle include the use of concentrated white vinegar or isopropyl alcohol (70% concentration), followed by scrubbing and rinsing as described above.
- Microwave Disinfection: Clean the device with soap and water as mentioned above and shake off the excess water. Now place the bottle, cap and tube in the microwave for 40 seconds. This will disinfect the bottle, cap and tube. If the microwave has been used recently, please make sure that the inside of the microwave has cooled back down to room temperature before using it to disinfect the bottle.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can thos be used multiple times |
Answer: | No, I just fill it up. I use two cups of water and fill it twice, once for each side. |
Question: | Is it bpa frer |
Answer: | It does not come with salt. Only the pot. |
Question: | where is this made |
Answer: | I would not recommend putting this pot in a microwave. The manufacturer or distributor has described its glaze as a "food-grade sealant" with no further explanation, but it has been flagged by a California Proposition 65 warning for a reason and the consumer has a right to know why there is such a warning on a product that is meant to promote health. One can only wonder if the glaze is unsafe. When I use this pot, I boil Smart Water in a pan on the stove and let it cool before adding salt. I recently let the water cool too long and made the mistake of putting the pot in the microwave for ten seconds. This resulted in burning sinuses and an acrid odor or taste that was not organic. Without more information on the chemical constituents of the glaze on a product manufactured in China that is being used to clean sinuses, I would not purchase this product again and urge those who sell it to investigate the reason it was flagged and make it public. |
Question: | Should I only use distilled water only |
Answer: | I purchased because the answers said the handle is not hollow. I just received it and it is definitely hollow. It will be difficult to keep clean because the opening at the top is a lot smaller than the bottom opening. Returning this one. |
