Answer:	The flange is for fit. I bought the large triple flange and it fit well on large (me) and medium (my son) ear canals very well. The top flange just seats a bit over the top of my ear and seats completely in his canal. am guessing double flange small for very small ear canals.
Question:	How do I know what size I need
Answer:	I had a hard time Guessing the size also, though I did some minor research into the item. In order to find the proper size for your ear you need to measure the "Concha Bowl" of your ear. Meaning the tip of the "bowl" (not the hole) in your ear this being large the concave area in the ear to the bottom of the same "bowl". PLEASE search the internet for a picture of the Concha Bowl. These are the size rules that I've found:If you have a small Concha Bowl and the height is less than 1 inch, buy a small. If you are close to 1" (meaning up to by approx 1mm) buy a Medium as this is more than 50% of the market, myself includedIf you have a larger Concha Bowl, Meaning just about anything over 1 inch, go Large. I do not have the Specs on the other sizes is they're still available. Now think of how deep your Ear canal is, this is the depth from the Concha Bowl through the "ear hole" or the deeper section of the ear. An EP3 two-flange system does not enter the ear as deep as the EP4's Three Flange. There is a large difference! You may not want your ear plug to box your ear drum. Rule for this is guess work sadly, I bought a Medium EP4 and it fits like a charm. But I've been told by others that if you are a Medium, Stick with the EP3. Only Larges are suggested to buy EP4's by the company. They're more comfortable and provide just about the same exact noise protection. Answer:	I'm not sure I understand your question but they will certainly work when listening from the external speaker of the radio. However if you are asking about an earbud provided with your 2 way radio I would say it depends. The earplugs fit flush in your ear so as long as you can comfortably wear the earbud they may block some volume but you should still be able to hear.

Answer:	In my experience the tightest fit is accomplished by using the foam plugs rather than the S,M,L rubber inserts. I would be worried they foam would actually allow water through the material itself. I use them for noise reduction so i can't say completely what your experience would be.

Answer:	Depends on your application. EP3's only have a double baffle. 4's and 5's have a triple. 4's have a Noise Reduction Rating of 12dB caps out, 24dB caps in. EP5's are set capped for an NRR of 26dB. EP3's and 4's allow you to hear conversations when they're in and uncapped. Depends on your use. If it's for your lawnmower only and you don't talk to people, 6's. If you're looking for multiple application, 3's or 4's. I prefer the fit of the 3's, but I also wear hearing aids on the daily.
