11 best quality vanilla beans
Quality vanilla beans are highly sought-after ingredients in the culinary world, known for their rich, sweet, and aromatic flavor. They are often used in a variety of dishes and desserts to impart a distinctive vanilla taste. Here is some information about quality vanilla beans in relation to Single Herbs Spices, Herbs Spices Seasonings, Pantry Staples, and Grocery Gourmet Food:
Origin: Quality vanilla beans primarily come from several regions around the world, with Madagascar, Tahiti, and Mexico being well-known producers. Each region imparts unique flavor profiles and characteristics to the beans.
Varieties: There are several varieties of vanilla beans, with the most common being Bourbon vanilla (from Madagascar and nearby islands), Tahitian vanilla, and Mexican vanilla. Bourbon vanilla is often considered the most popular due to its rich and creamy flavor.
Flavor Profile: High-quality vanilla beans are prized for their complex flavor, which includes notes of sweetness, creaminess, and a subtle floral aroma. The flavor can vary depending on the region of cultivation.
Appearance: Quality vanilla beans are typically long, slender, and dark brown to black in color. They are characterized by the presence of tiny, oily crystals on the surface, known as vanillin crystals, which indicate their quality.
Grade: Vanilla beans are graded based on their size, appearance, and moisture content. Grade A or Grade 1 beans are usually considered the highest quality and are plump, moist, and have a strong vanilla aroma.
Usage: Vanilla beans are often used to infuse flavor into various culinary creations, including desserts like custards, ice creams, cakes, and cookies. They can also be used in savory dishes, such as sauces and marinades.
Extract: Many people use quality vanilla beans to make homemade vanilla extract. Splitting and scraping the seeds from the beans and then steeping them in alcohol (usually vodka) creates a fragrant and flavorful extract.
Storage: To maintain their freshness and flavor, vanilla beans should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. You can also store them in a sealed glass jar with sugar to make vanilla sugar.
Cost: Quality vanilla beans can be relatively expensive due to the labor-intensive cultivation and harvesting process. The price can fluctuate depending on the region of origin, availability, and demand.
Substitutes: When high-quality vanilla beans are not readily available or are cost-prohibitive, pure vanilla extract and vanilla bean paste are common substitutes. While they may not offer the same depth of flavor, they can still provide a delightful vanilla taste.
In summary, quality vanilla beans are prized for their unique and complex flavor, making them a valuable ingredient in various culinary applications. They come in different varieties and grades, with factors like origin and appearance influencing their overall quality and cost. Proper storage is essential to preserve their freshness and aroma.

Tahitian Gourmet Vanilla Bean Pods - Nicknamed "The Queen of Vanilla"
Tahitian Vanilla, unlike the Madagascar Bourbon species (Vanilla planifolia) is only a small fraction of the world’s natural vanilla production and deservedly nicknamed “The Queen of Vanilla”.
It has a floral taste and fragrance, different from the Madagascar Bourbon species. The bean pod is also stouter (plumper) than the Madagascar Bourbon species, and has higher oil and moisture content.

Tahitian Vanilla Beans Gourmet Grade A
Plump, supple, dense with seeds, oily moist, dark-brown-to-black color, at least 6” long with rich floral aroma. Tahitian Grade A vanilla bean pod typically has vanillin content of ~2.5%; moisture of ~30 -35%. As they age, they may develop the remarkable crystal-like features, the expression of high vanillin content. Great for all vanilla uses - cooking, baking, brewing, extract.
Tahitian Vanilla Beans Grade A/B
The Grade A/B is often gourmet grade with some imperfections - splits or scratches, flatter and/or thinner (low seed density); and lower moisture content (~27-30%) than a typical grade A. It can be used for cooking, baking, brewing as well as extraction.
Tahitian Vanilla Beans Grade B
Grade B is considered as the extract grade. The Tahitian Grade B pods are moist and fresh. They have a relatively lower moisture content (25-28%) and are shorter than the gourmet grade A. Typical length is ~4"-6" and may or maynot have blemishes such as splits or scratches. They may also have lower seed density. Nevertheless, they still maintain the Tahitian floral aromatic characteristics. Great for extract and brewing.
How To make a Homemade Alcohol -Vanilla Extract
Split open or chop into pieces FITNCLEAN vanilla bean pods into a clean coverable jar containing vodka or your choice alcoholic spirit (~50g vanilla pods for every 16 oz. alcohol). You can scale up or down using the stated ratio as a guide but make sure there is enough alcohol to completely submerge the beans. Tightly close the jar and allow content to macerate for about 6-8 weeks or longer while shaking periodically (every 3-5 days).
The recommendation for pure vanilla-alcohol extract solution is ≥ 100 g of vanilla bean pod per liter using a 35% or greater alcohol.
Different types of alcoholic spirits are used but Vodka and Rum are the most commonly used. Vegetable glycerin oil is also used sometimes.
- Gourment Tahitian Vanilla Beans-grown in PNG sustianably sourced with an avergent length of 15-16 cm (5 -6 inches on average)
- Whole vanilla beans that are soft, supple, full of great Tahitian vanilla flavor and can be use in recipes or making vanilla extract, vanilla paste or vanilla powder

User questions & answers
Question: | Ok I got some questions...what is the difference between a grade A & B , who grades them , which is the best for less money |
Answer: | it is meaty, moist but not runny, with bits of carrots noticeable. my cat had 'rodent ulcer", small sores on his lips (one symptom of feline eosinophilic granuloma complex), which the vet set could be an allergic reaction to a food ingredient or household dust! so I decided to see if he liked the limited ingredient food and chose this one for no particular reason. it seems his mouth is better and he likes the food. I was feeding Friskies and then Fancy Feast before I switched to the Blue Basics. It is pretty expensive but I watch for sales and feel it's better than vet visits and medication. I order from Petco and watch for free shipping and it costs the same as at the store and comes to my door. I feed the canned in the morning and the same variety of dry kibble in the evening. I'm one who does not generally give treats and both my cats are a healthy weight. |
Question: | can i use these to flavor raw honey |
Answer: | Probably because it’s a carb for cats that can’t handle grains. My cat had inflammatory bowel disease (daily vomiting and weight loss) and it completely stopped within days of starting this food, no meds. |
Question: | What is the best way to store Tahitian vanilla beans and what is the shelf life |
Answer: | go on line and see if you can find it.......check on line the brand |
Question: | how do I store it because it came in a ziplock type bag but still molded after a couple weeks |
Answer: | There are 187 calories per 5.5 oz can. |

Answer: | The ratings or grades for maple syrup has changed and grade B is now known as Grade A Dark Robust. We like to use this syrup for cooking and making granola! |
Question: | Can these seeds be germinated and grown |
Answer: | Hi, There should have been a label on the top of the cap with the grade. It must have fallen off during shipping. I can confirm the grade if you give me the bar code # or the number above the best by date. You can contact me directly @ [email protected]. Thanks, Dawn |
Question: | Will this be enough vanilla beans to make 33oz of extract |
Answer: | not sure.. the container is labeled HDPE 2. Most HDPE is BPA free. No needs to worry about it as long as you buy the HDPE with the recycle symbol of 2. Its the food grade. Question: | I bought these with the intention of making homemade vanilla extract. however, i am unsure of how much i bought...i am wondering how many ounces |
Answer: | The last time I bought it there were 24 cans in the case. I stopped buying it because my cats didnt like it and wasted most of it. It smells and looks wonderful but my cats are older and aren't used to eating something so healthy I guess. They can be so fussy as you know. |
Question: | are these beans grade A or B |
Answer: | I don’t think the word diet indicates it is a lower calorie or diabetic cat food. It is just the name of the brand. |
Question: | Are these cured in the traditional Tahitian style by ripening on the vine for months or quick-cured in less than 2 weeks |
Answer: | to the best of my understanding, it is for adult cats. There is more in that can than what "first seems" ....Anyway, I got it for an adult cat. They all like t he flavor |
Question: | Are these grade A or B Beans |
Answer: | Carrageenan, guar gum and cassia gum are all emulsifiers. I'd guess that those things keep the keep from separating and help maintain it's "pate-like" texture. As for the other ingredients, probably to maintain vitamin and mineral content. My cat loves it! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these Fair Trade certified |
Answer: | Maybe I'm wrong since 2 others seem confident but the only black handled flatware I saw recently in P.B. was not the same. From what I remember, the handles were not as dark and they were "flatter." Maybe P.B. carries another black handled than the one I saw that is identical or close to as the Montana one but I only saw one. This is nicer and better quality (and less expensive). |

User questions & answers
Question: | how can you call them Madagascar if they re grown in the USA |
Answer: | My guess is Asia because that would be E-Far away from here. |
Question: | Can these beans grind |
Answer: | Gourmet Settings got back to me and said "...Our flatware is designed here in Canada. Almost all our flatware is produced in Vietnam. A few patterns are produced in China." |
Question: | If i select the 30 vanilla bean option, will i get 3 bottles, with 10 beans to use per bottle? or will i get just one bottle with 30 vanilla beans |
Answer: | Yes but I just started noticing a very little bit of rust after using them for nearly a year. But the rust could be wiped off (wiped kind of vigorously!) But we do use them everyday and my son and husband leave them in the sink (wet) and when they finally make it into the dishwasher, we only run it every 3rd or so day so they are also somewhat damp in there (before washing). I'd buy them again but now I wipe them when they come out of the dishwasher. And the "rust" is just a bit and just around the top end of the black part (right next to the steel). It comes off. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come in vacuum sealed packaging |
Answer: | 6 months or so in, they look great. There are the occasional "discolorations" but absolutely nothing rustlike; more gray/dull/flat areas in the shine that polish off with whatever's handy...no big thing, in my book. I can buy another set for the price diff on the better stainless., and this is daily flatware. On that day when I hear the grinding of tines against the garbage disposal, it'll be cheaper to order a replacement set, and swap out the damage. Also: These are all they say - balanced, superstrong, innovative & cool. We also bought two sets of espresso/coffee spoons we use for desserts & yogurt and they are the most popular pieces in the drawer. I'd hate to think what those lil' spoons would run in 18/10, and - of course - the lowly restaurant-quality 18/0 matches our daily set. But - in any case - don't sweat the rust thing - it's only the remorse (or snobbery) of those who paid 1/3rd more. (my $0.02 only) |
Question: | Mine molded. How should I store in the future to prevent this problem? Wasted most of the order |
Answer: | I didn't see any option to buy that way. I've only seen 40 piece set or 20 piece set options. Thank you |
Question: | Which bundle size do you need to make a 1 liter bottle of extract |
Answer: | I'm not sure. I just ordered the silver ware set and am very happy with it. They are not too heavy but not too light either. For the price, it was a great buy. Contact the seller. Surely, you can get other pieces. The "hammered" handles gives a vintage but modern effect. Would buy again! |
Question: | Are these grade b beans madagascar or tahitian? what is the approximate weight of the 25 grade b beans |
Answer: | Big fork at the tine end is 10mm. Widest part of fork before the handle is almost an inch. Big spoon is 1.5 inch at widest. Thanks for giving me something to do. Great set btw |

About our Grade B vanilla beans for making Homemade Vanilla Extract.
Extract vanilla beans, the most economical choice for a flavorful vanilla extract. Our extract grade or grade B vanilla beans average 12-14 cm and are composed of both vanilla planifolia and vanilla tahitensis vanilla species. The vanilla beans can contain minor cuts, splits and other imperfections of natural processing. Depending on the time of the year and current harvests vanilla beans can range from very dry or moist vanilla beans due to smaller vanilla beans and are not gourmet vanilla beans. If you have never made vanilla extract, each order comes with an easy to follow vanilla recipe that is base on FDA formulation standards for pure vanilla extract. If you are planning on making vanilla syrup or another similar recipe, let us know and we will be happy to provide.
Homemade Vanilla Extract an Easy to Follow Guide?
Vanilla extract is a principle flavor in many kitchen and baking recipes. It is used in cakes, custards, ice cream, gelato, batters, doughs and so much more. Vanilla extract is a very complimenting flavor for so many products it is a wonder anyone ever went without it. Outlined here we have included the basic recipe and procedure for a single fold vanilla extract.
HOW TO MAKE VANILLA EXTRACT WITH REAL VANILLA BEANS
1. Select a base alcohol such as vodka, rum, bourbon, or brandy that is 70 proof.
2. Chop vanilla beans into ¼ to ½ inch pieces and insert in container. (you can also split and scrap your vanilla beans but this is time consuming and can be more difficult with Grade b vanilla beans. If you prefer splitting and scraping your vanilla beans we recommend using a grade A or Gourmet vanilla that is naturally more pliable.)
3. Pour 10 - 12 oz of alcohol over vanilla.
4. Tightly close your container.
5. Shake vigorously and continue to do so once or twice a week for 90 days.
Did your vanilla beans mold, it can happen and here is what to do...
White fuzzy substance on your vanilla beans? Do not panic, mold does at times happen. Vanilla beans are an agricultural product just as strawberries, raspberries or otherwise . Every effort is taken to ensure product quality however despite this and our best effort it can happen. For whatever reason if you product does arrive damaged, or you experience an issue within 45 days of delivery, please simply send us an email via buyer and seller messaging and communicate, we will be more than happy to assist. Please note at time mold only affects fresh vanilla beans. It does not grow in vanilla extract. At times vanilla extract can become cloudy due to the swelling of the fibrous pulp of vanilla bean pod. This is quite normal and should be filtered out with the remaining organic matter at the end of the aging period. You will be left with a beautiful amber vanilla extract that looks great and is flavorful.

User questions & answers
Question: | There appears to be mold growing on my beans. I have them soaking in vodka. Could it be something other than mold |
Answer: | When the beans soak in vodka the inner meat comes out and is whitish looking. U sure it’s mold? Don’t think mold could grow in alcohol without sugar. |
Question: | How do you store after opening & how long can they last stored |
Answer: | The longevity of your gourmet beans is dependent on how they are stored. A vanilla bean will last six months to three years without losing potency in ideal conditions. You can visit https://nativevanilla.com/blogs/recipes/how-to-store-vanilla-beans?_pos=1&_sid=0f3d7dfb4&_ss=r for a detailed explanation on how to store vanilla beans. |
Question: | Where do these come from |
