12 best keto sweetener

Keto sweeteners, also known as sugar substitutes, are an essential ingredient in the ketogenic diet and are commonly used in various low-carb and sugar-free recipes for cooking and baking. These sweeteners are chosen for their ability to provide sweetness without significantly impacting blood sugar levels, making them suitable for those following a keto or low-carb lifestyle. Here are some common keto sweeteners:

  1. Stevia: Stevia is a natural sweetener derived from the leaves of the stevia plant. It is known for its intense sweetness and zero-calorie content. Stevia is available in various forms, including liquid drops and powdered versions.

  2. Erythritol: Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that occurs naturally in some fruits and fermented foods. It has almost no calories and does not raise blood sugar levels. Erythritol is often used in combination with other sweeteners to improve taste and texture.

  3. Monk Fruit Extract: Monk fruit extract is another natural sweetener derived from the monk fruit. It is significantly sweeter than sugar and has zero calories. Monk fruit extract is often mixed with a filler like erythritol to make it easier to use as a sugar substitute.

  4. Xylitol: Xylitol is another sugar alcohol often used as a sugar substitute. It has a sweetness similar to sugar and is commonly found in sugar-free chewing gum and candies. While it has some calories, it has a minimal impact on blood sugar.

  5. Allulose: Allulose is a rare natural sugar found in small quantities in certain foods like wheat and raisins. It has a similar taste and texture to sugar but with fewer calories and a minimal effect on blood sugar levels.

  6. Sucralose: Sucralose is an artificial sweetener that is highly heat-stable, making it suitable for baking. It is commonly sold under the brand name Splenda and is many times sweeter than sugar.

  7. Stevia and Erythritol Blends: Some sugar substitutes combine stevia and erythritol to balance the sweetness and improve the overall taste and texture. These blends are often used in keto recipes.

When using keto sweeteners in cooking and baking, it's essential to follow specific conversion guidelines, as these sweeteners are often much sweeter than sugar. Additionally, individual taste preferences can vary, so experimenting with different sweeteners and combinations may be necessary to achieve the desired flavor profile in your keto-friendly dishes.

Keep in mind that while keto sweeteners can be valuable tools for those following low-carb diets, it's essential to consume them in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this product contain any carbs? Thank you
Answer: The carbs are listed as 4g, which is the "sugar alcohols", which is the erythritol. However, NET-carbs of erythritol are zero (hence, it's also called "Zerose"), since it is excreted before it can enter the blood stream.
Question: What is the difference, if any, between the Lakanto Golden Sweetener and the Lakanto White Sweetener
Answer: I've found no difference in the taste between the golden and classic. For me they are both equally good replacement for sugar. When I use the golden for baking, the color comes out a little darker than if I use the classic.
Question: What is the percentage by volume of erythritol and what percentage is Luo Han Guo
Answer: This is almost pure erythritol, about 99%. Erythritol is about 70% as sweet as sugar. They add enough Monk Fruit to make it as sweet as sugar. Being 99% erythritol by weight would not be deceptive because Monk Fruit is 150 to 200 times as sweet as sugar. What is deceptive is that only 30% of the sweetness comes from Monk Fruit. Thus it should be call Erythritol enhanced with Monk Fruit, rather than Monk Fruit sweetener. Having stated this, other than potential digestive problems resulting from erythritol not being digestible, there is nothing wrong with a sweetener being 70% erythritol and 30% Monk Fruit by sweetness, except calling it Monk Fruit sweetener. If you want a granulated Monk Fruit sweetener with a higher percentage of Monk Fruit, you will have to look for one that is not a one for one replacement for sugar, or uses a less sweet base than erytritol.
Question: What are all the ingredients listed for this product
Answer: Lakanto isn't truely a "Monkfruit Sweetner", except as a marketing gimmick. It is basically the same thing as Truvia, except that it is substituting in a bit of monk fruit instead of stevia to increase the sweetness so that it is more like using sugar in proportion. This is made even more obvious by their marketing it as a 1:1 substitute for sugar, while distracting people with the (erroneous) note that actual monk fruit is 300x the sweetness of sugar. It would be more honest to market their product as an "Erythritol sweetner" with monk fruit extract, but that's not as marketable.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the ratio of this sweetener to regular sugar for baking? Is it 1 to
Answer: No you’ll need to add extra. If it calls for one cup sugar you will use 1 1/3 cup Erythritol. It’s what I use to sweeten all my baked goods and I love it!
Question: what is the bag made of, does it contribute anything bad to the product? thanks
Answer: Love the product. Packaging does not contribute smell or taste to the product.
Question: This product is listed as 100% erythritol, but several questions answered by other buyers said it is a mixture of sugar/stevia. Which is it
Answer: Whole Earth makes some different products. This one that is showing is 100% Erythritol, but they make another one called Baking Blend that is sugar/stevia.
Question: In what country is this product made
Answer: USA??? How do you know? In fact -- counry of origin is far from clear. Company's FAQ on this product says only: Whole Earth Erythritol is manufactured for Whole Earth Sweetener Company, LLC. http://wholeearthsweetener.com/faqs/#collapse-3035 Don't recall seeing any statement of origin on the product's packaging, last I checked. Nor will you see Made in USA in any of the product images here. Suppose, then, that Whole Earth Sweetener Co is purchasing all of their erythritol from a US company. That doesn't necessarily say anything about product origin. The erythritol could be made elsewhere, shipped here in bulk, and repackaged in the US. Whole Earth Sweetener Co may or may not be aware of this. That issue imo goes squarely to business practices. It's the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and not the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that governs Made in USA labelling. Foods and sweeteners have no source-of-origin labelling requirements: U.S. content must be disclosed on automobiles and textile, wool, and fur products. There’s no law that requires most other products sold in the U.S. to be marked or labeled Made in USA or have any other disclosure about their amount of U.S. content. However, manufacturers and marketers who choose to make claims about the amount of U.S. content in their products must comply with the FTC’s Made in USA policy. https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/complying-made-usa-standard As Whole Earth Sweetener Co does not publicly disclose the maker of their erythritol, consumers are -- purposefully to my mind -- left in the dark on this. One quick swipe with Occam's razor: Were this erythritol made in the USA, then why wouldn't Whole Earth Sweetener Co clearly say so -- both on their packaging and in their published FAQ? By keeping mum publicly, Whole Earth Sweetener Co is certainly staying on the right side of applicable FTC rules.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have any "after taste" like some do? Thanks
Answer: Nope. No after taste like Stevia :) I love this brand of erythritol
Question: what is erythritol made from
Answer: Erythritol is: Fermented – it is made by fermenting the natural sugar found in corn. Heat stable up to 160 degrees C. Non-caloric – While most sugar alcohols are low calorie, erythritol has zero calories. Non-glycemic - Does not raise blood sugar – erythritol is considered suitable for people with diabetes because it does not raise plasma glucose or insulin levels. The easiest sugar alcohol to digest – more than 90% of erythritol is absorbed in the small intestine, so minimal amounts reach the colon where other sugar alcohols end up causing diarrhea and other symptoms. Studies have shown that erythritol is even easier to digest than xylitol. Noncarcinogenic– studies have shown that erythritol, like xylitol, does not have carcinogenic properties. An antioxidant – erythritol helps to fight free radicals, responsible for the aging process. It is considered to be even more efficient than other sugar alcohols because it is so readily absorbed and yet not metabolized (it is excreted unchanged). Source, see: https://bodyecology.com/articles/erythritol_what_you_need_to_know_natural_sugar_substitute.php They recommend an interesting product I have not tried. I am using a mixture of half erythritol and half xylitol, and so far I find that sweetener to be quite acceptable.
Question: Where is this sourced? U.S. or China
Answer: The source is important, pls be transparent. And made in usa is important, if the sources are from definitely will not buy.
Question: What is the difference? "Anthony’s uses cane sugar fermentation vs corn slurry fermentation
Answer: In both processes glucose (usually from cornstarch) is converted into erythritol. Anthony's Erythritol used to have a statement in their back label "Product of USA ...derived from cane sugar" but they removed this statement in mid 2019 when the compnay was sold. So it is now probably made from non-GMO corn in China or from from GMO corn in the USA. FYI erythritol is widely promoted as a natural sweetener for being found in nature but the store-bought erythritol is in fact a synthetic sweetener - it is not directly isolated or extracted from a plant or parts of a plant.

User questions & answers

Question: how is this for baking? does it leave granular residue like my erythritol
Answer: All Swerve products are ideal for baking. Since Swerve measures just like sugar, there are no conversion charts needed when creating your favorite recipes. If your recipe calls for half a cup of sugar, you simply replace it with half a cup of Swerve. Swerve mixes in well, and leaves no residue.
Question: Does swerve lower the freezing point? Some recipes for ice cream claim swerve keeps it soft
Answer: No, Swerve does not lower the freezing point of ice cream or other frozen goods. Heavy cream or 1 tbsp of vodka usually help keep ice cream soft!
Question: What is the carb count on the Gluten Free Swerve? Is it suitable for a low/no carb diet
Answer: In a 1 tsp serving of Swerve, there are 3g carbohydrates from Erythritol, and 0g sugar. However, the carbohydrates in Swerve do not affect blood sugar, so there are 0g net carbs in Swerve per serving.
Question: Does this have a funky aftertaste like Stevia
Answer: NO!! I don't like Stevia. It has a horrible aftertaste. Swerve does not give an aftertaste in any of the desserts I made. Something IT DOES do is if you drink water after eating something with Swerve in it you will taste sweet. It was a little strange but was no issue. I would drink about 5 sips of water and then the sweetness would be gone. But it was sweet and not a bad taste.

What Puts the Sweet in Swerve?

The secret to Swerve’s zero-calorie sweetness is a combination of erythritol and oligosaccharides.

If you’ve ever visited a brewery, you’ve gotten a peek into how fermentation works. Erythritol is made by fermenting glucose with Moniliella pollinis, a natural microorganism. It also naturally occurs in many fruits and vegetables like melons, grapes and asparagus. Erythritol is classified by the FDA as a zero-calorie, 4-carbon sugar alcohol that does not affect blood glucose.

Oligosaccharides are sweet, non-digestible carbohydrates sourced from select fruits and starchy root vegetables. Oligosaccharides are prebiotic fibers, so they’re not only tasty, but they can help stimulate beneficial bacteria in your gut.

Question: Is swerve a sugar alcohol? sometimes sugar alcohols can cause bloating. asking for a friend! thx
Answer: Sugar alcohols (also called polyols) are common ingredients in sugar substitutes; the erythritol in Swerve is one such sugar alcohol. Another common sugar alcohol is xylitol, which is quite different from erythritol and is not an ingredient in Swerve.
Question: is there any issue with baked goods being gritty? And other popular brand are used even with the baking sugar everything turns out gritty, bad texture
Answer: I have never felt any of the baked goods I have baked had a gritty texture. If you do think this happens in a certain baked good just use the powdered form of Swerve. I use Swerve in all my baked goods and have never had a problem.
Question: How does Swerve affect ketone levels
Answer: It should not affect ketone levels. Main ingredient is keto approved.
Question: what are the origins of the product? specifically, does it come from China
Answer: The back of the bag says, "Developed by & Manufactured for Swerve, LLC, New Orleans, LA." That is the only indication on the bag about the orientation of the product. I assume it means it was made in New Orleans.

User questions & answers

Question: How does this compare to Lakanto
Answer: It tastes much better than Lakanto. I also think you need less of it. I can use two packets (the little box of packets is all they have in our local grocery store) in a cup of coffee and to me it tastes just like I used two teaspoons of sugar. With the Lakanto, I have to use a much larger amount and it still doesn't taste as sweet. The lakanto also doesn't taste as much like sugar to me.
Question: It states 16 oz(8 packs). Does this mean im getting 8- 16 oz bags for this price
Answer: I only bought two 1lbs bag of Monk Fruit in the Raw. Individually, it’s almost $13. Amazon does sell 8 bags (1 lbs each) for $65+.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the difference
Answer: Hello, Pyure Organic Stevia All-Purpose Blend is our most versatile product. It can be used for all applications from cooking, baking, sprinkling on cereal or sweetening coffees and teas. It is organic, non-gmo and has the same taste and feel as sugar. Pyure All-Purpose is also a 2:1 ratio, so for every cup of sugar you can replace with 1/2 cup of All-Purpose Blend. This product blends organic erythritol and organic stevia together which are both excellent options for those with sugar sensitivities/diabetics. Pyure All-Purpose also comes in a few sizes: 16 ounce Pouch, 10 ounce flip-top tub, 80ct and 1000ct sachets. Pyure Bakeable Blend on the other hand is currently not organic or non-gmo, however we are working towards having it being organic and non-gmo this year. This product is more of a sugar-reducer since we recommend that for every cup of sugar, you replace half with the bakeable blend. For example if your recipe requires 1 cup of sugar you use 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of the bakeable blend. This is to ensure for proper crispness and browning. The Bakeable Blend can also be used in a 1:1 ratio if you do not want to use sugar. Pyure Bakeable Blend is a blend of maltodextrin and organic stevia, and comes in a 10 ounce pouch. I hope that helps. Thanks for the question W. Swanton.
Question: item shown for $17 .86, is it 16oz. package
Answer: Yes, the item you are referring is one 16oz. package. However, I purchase the 2-pack offering (2 ea. 16 oz. packages) for around $25.00.
Question: Why is this misleadingly presented item not returnable when it contains hardly anything but erythritol and only trivial traces of stevia extract
Answer: Pure stevia is a powder that is super sweet and almost unusable. It is mixed with other sweeteners like erythritol as a carrying agent. I also have a small bottle of the pure powder. It comes with a 25mg scoop. 25mg is a really small amount. I use about 1/3 of the scoop to sweeten a mug of coffee. Any more than that and my coffee is too sweet. This doesn't sound so bad but just try and get that tiny bit of powder in the sccop. The powder is so fine that it clings together, coats the handle of the scoop, and as you tap the scoop against the side of your mug the powder on the scoop handle falls into your coffee also. Like I said the pure powder is not really a usable form of this item and it works much better when it is mixed with something that can be granulated. Don't let the ratios fool you.
Question: what is the ratio of erythritol and stevia
Answer: I include this comment by seller " ...lthough erythritol is the first ingredient by weight, stevia accounts for over 90% of the sweetness. Pyure Stevia Extract is roughly 350x sweeter than sugar, while erythritol is 70% as sweet as sugar. The reason that this blend is less concentrated is because this erythritol-stevia blend offers the bulk/volume that the 1 cup of sugar in your recipe would have required, without losing mass in your cakes or cookies. Erythritol is a non-nutritive carrying agent that the stevia is able to attach itself to, creating a sweetener that is easy to use, versatile and safe for those with sugar sensitivities. . .

User questions & answers

Question: Does it come in individual packets like spenda
Answer: Absolutely! We make packets of Swerve Granular in packets that sell 40 to a box. You can search: Swerve Sweetener Packets.
Question: Is it All natural? When they came out with all the fake sugars it ended up being worse than sugar
Answer: Swerve contains natural, plant-based ingredients from select fruits and starchy root vegetables. It's a blend of three ingredients. Erythritol is the first and most prominent ingredient, and is naturally made by fermenting glucose. Prebiotic fibers called oligosaccharides are then added to our blend, along with some natural flavor from citrus to provide just the right amount of sweetness.
Question: Do you use this on fruit like strawberries
Answer: I use it to bake with. But yeah you can use it like sugar. For sugar I use monk fruit because it doesn't affect blood glucose and is natural.
Question: Does this come in liquid form
Answer: I've never seen it in liquid form just granular, brown & confectioners.
