User questions & answers

Question: These are dried garbanzo beans, right? I'm trying to buy some bulk dried chick peas to make chick pea flour. Thanks
Answer: Hi Karina, this is Alyssa with Palouse Brand. Garbanzo beans and chickpeas are the same thing. You can use these garbanzo beans to make chick pea flour. Let me know at [email protected] if there is anything else I can do for you. Thanks!
Question: About how many standard 14.5 ounce cans of beans is the 5 Lb bag equivalent to
Answer: I did a little math just now, because I recently retired all my canned pulses, and switched exclusively to dried (reason: vastly better texture, better taste, better shelf life, 3-5x cheaper, and no BPA ... a WIN-WIN). A common rule of thumb is 1 cup Dried Garbanzos yields slightly more than one typical 13.5-15.5 oz can (cooked), but since it's a nice round number that's easy to remember (1:2), it's commonplace to equate them ... but it's probably higher, since many budget brands dont fully fill their cans (possibly because labeling laws in the country of origin only require "net weight" rather than "dry" {drained} weight").I have no data on Palouse chickpeas, but I measured some generic garbanzos just now ... * 1 cup Dried Garbanzos (Generic) = approx 200 gr dry wt = 0.44 lb. If we accept the 1 cup = 1 can equivalence mentioned earlier ...* 5/0.44 = 11 - 12 cans, minimum (but probably closer to 15-16)------------------------------------BTW, just for price comparison: If you're looking for organic non-GMO pulses like garbanzos, $3/lb seems fairly commonplace for 3-5# size online for most varieties, whereas in my local indo-pak store (where garbanzos are called "Kabuli Channa" in Hindi), unrated generic bulk repackaged by the store in 3-5 lb bags generally costs about $1/lb (or a smidge more), and premium organics double or triple that. Whether or not I buy $1/lb generic bulk or $3/lb premium depends on what I'm buying ... I usually dont mind spending a minute or so to dump the former onto a baking sheet and pickover to remove any discolored/damaged peas or the occasional pebble before transferring it to cryovac or a glass jar.
Question: Were these beans spayed with Roundup before harvest
Answer: Hi there, this is Sara Mader, the owner of Palouse Brand. Years ago we started decreasing the use of glyphosate in our fields to address customer concerns. In 2018 and 2019 we used no roundup on our chickpea/garbanzo bean growing crop. I hope this clears up all questions and concerns. It is our goal to never spray a crop with Glyphosate.
Question: Are your products organic or treated with pesticides ?Thanks
Answer: Hi there, this is Sara Mader the owner of Palouse Brand. We have changed our farming practices and methods over the years to be more in line with customer expectations. Our farm has been decreasing the use of glyphosate in general for years. In fact the 2018 and 2019 growing crops were not sprayed with any glyphosate -hope this answer is clear enough and helps customers navigate through their purchasing decisions. We are proud to be a transparent company where if you have questions on Amazon products you can use the buyer/seller messaging forum to contact us as we arent good at normally monitor these reviews. I guess I could hire someone to monitor reviews and increase the product price -but the buyer/seller messaging forum helps to control our internal costs and is the right tool to use when asking questions.

User questions & answers

Question: is Gabonzo flour Gabonzo bean powder? ...meaning, simply milled dried gabonzo beans but nothing else? Could it be used to make hummus
Answer: It is indeed milled dried garbanzo (chickpea) flour, so yes I would assume you can make hummus by adding the appropriate liquids and oils. I used it to make chickpea fritter or panelle as they call them in Italian, which you would not be able to make from whole fresh chickpeas. As hummus is a moist composition, I would think that fresh garbanzos or chickpeas would be your best option rather than the four.
Question: Is this non GMO
Answer: Call the company.
Question: I just purchased this and received 1@ 16oz bag for $16. The product info says 0.25/oz which would represent 64oz or 4 bags. Anyone have same issue
Answer: 16 Oz for $16.00 is crazy! I received a box with 4 separate packages inside at a similar price. $4.00 per 16oz package is reasonable, not $16.00 for one 16 Oz pkg. They messed up your order big time. Call them.
Question: Is this 4 packs with 16 oz each or 4 packs totalling 16 oz
Answer: We sell in this listing Now at "Save Plus" 4 x 16 oz total this listing is 4 pounds

Use it in dishes like falafel, hummus, socca, farinata, papadums and pakoras. It is also a wonderful ingredient for gluten free baking. Gram flour, besan, or chickpea flour, is a pulse flour made from a variety of ground chickpeas. It may be made from Bengal gram or Garbanzo beans. It is a staple ingredient in the cuisine of the Indian subcontinent, including in Indian, Bangladeshi, Burmese, Nepali, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan cuisines

  • You can substitute up to half the amount of all-purpose flour called for in a recipe with chickpea flour. This works best for quick breads and yeast breads.

  • Unlike all-purpose flour, chickpea flour is high in protein, fibre and micronutrients, while being low in carbohydrates and calories. Half a cup of chickpea flour contains an impressive 11 grams of protein, 5 grams of fibre, and nutrients like folate, iron, magnesium and zinc. Chickpea flour is also heart-healthy.
  • Is chickpea flour keto? While chickpea flour is nutrient-dense and low in carbohydrates compared to wheat, rice, corn, and other grain flours, it is not considered a great keto option because it still is higher in carbs than other keto-friendly flours, like almond flour and coconut flour.
  • For pet parents looking for grain-free treat options, chickpea flour is another great substitute for pooches with food sensitivities. Plus, the fiber found in chickpeas can help keep your dog regular, and this legume boasts the benefits of lecithin, potassium, and vitamins A, B and C.

User questions & answers

Question: Can someone give an updated commentary on the quality and level of "beany"ness taste of this in comparison with Authentic Foods? Appreciate any help
Answer: I have not used Authenic Foods but I use an equal amount of Garfava bean flour (Bob's Red Mill), tapioca flour and cornstarch flour blended together for almost everything. I do use a rice blend flour for pie crust.
Question: Has anyone used it for coating and baking chicken
Answer: I have used it for frying chicken. I hadn't made fried chicken at home for 20+ years because of the mess. When my husband discovered he had a gluten intolerance 4 years ago, one thing he really missed was an occasional fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy. So I made it at home using this to coat the chicken. It was wonderful, much better than eating it out. I still make it very occasionally, probably once every six weeks or so. I make old fashioned cream gravy to go with it substituting corn starch for flour in the gravy.
Question: What is the benefit of adding fava to chickpea flour? I've tried chickpea flour before but not fava, so I'm curious as to what I might be missing
Answer: I make a chickpea and fava pancakes as our protein for a meal, every other day. I like having the fava (25%) to have some added variety to our diet. I don't notice a difference in flavor or any other way. I've used it for both savory (pizza-like) pancakes and for sweet (berries) pancakes. Today I made sweet peanut butter and ginger pancakes, yummy.
Question: is this processed in a facility that also processes peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, dairy or shellfish
Answer: On the side panel of the package, under the list of ingredients, it says, "Manufactured in a facility that uses tree nuts and soy."
