13 best balsamic vinegar ageds

Balsamic vinegar aged varieties are a well-known and cherished condiment in the world of culinary arts. These vinegars are characterized by their rich, complex flavors and versatility in cooking, making them a staple in many kitchens. Here's what you should know about aged balsamic vinegar:

  1. Production Process: Authentic aged balsamic vinegar is made from freshly crushed grape juice, primarily from the Trebbiano grape variety. The grape juice is slowly simmered in open pots until it becomes concentrated and caramelized. This process can take many years to achieve the desired flavor and consistency.

  2. Aging Periods: Balsamic vinegar comes in various aging categories, with the most common being:

    • Traditional Balsamic Vinegar (DOP): This is the highest quality and most expensive balsamic vinegar. It is aged for a minimum of 12 years and often much longer. It has a thick, syrupy consistency and a sweet, complex flavor profile with notes of fruit, wood, and spices.

    • Aged Balsamic Vinegar: This category includes vinegars aged for a minimum of 3 to 5 years. They are less thick and sweet than traditional balsamic but still offer a well-developed flavor.

    • Commercial Balsamic Vinegar: These are more commonly found and are typically aged for a shorter period, usually around 1 to 3 years. They are less expensive and have a simpler flavor profile.

  3. Flavor Profile: Aged balsamic vinegar is prized for its harmonious blend of sweet, tart, and complex flavors. It often exhibits notes of dark fruit, cherry, fig, oak, and even a hint of chocolate or caramel. The aging process imparts a smooth, syrupy texture and a glossy appearance.

  4. Usage: Aged balsamic vinegar is a versatile ingredient in the kitchen. It can be used in both savory and sweet dishes. Common uses include drizzling over salads, glazing meats and vegetables, or adding a few drops to desserts like strawberries or vanilla ice cream.

  5. Balsamic Vinegar Reduction: Many recipes call for a balsamic reduction, which is achieved by simmering aged balsamic vinegar until it thickens into a syrupy consistency. This reduction is often used as a flavorful finishing touch for dishes.

  6. Storage: Aged balsamic vinegar should be stored in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. It has a long shelf life and can improve with age. Keep the bottle tightly sealed to prevent evaporation.

  7. Bottle Labels: Look for labels indicating the age of the balsamic vinegar, as well as certifications like "Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena" (Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena), which signifies a premium-quality product.

In summary, aged balsamic vinegar is a prized culinary ingredient known for its rich, complex flavors and versatile uses in a wide range of dishes. Whether you're drizzling it on a salad, glazing meats, or creating a balsamic reduction, its distinctive taste can elevate your culinary creations.

User questions & answers

Question: In the descriptions the vinegars are called "certified organic" but there is nothing on the bottle labels. Certified by who? Why not on bottle
Answer: It's ceramic grinder.
Question: Is this gluten-free
Answer: Frist screw out the stainless steel botton on the top, and pour-out all the spices you filled, then screw out the adjustable knob, ceramic grinder, stainless steel spring in the bottom. 7 inch classical grinder can be used by dish-washing machine, just take care to keep every small part well, don't lose them.
Question: what % acidity
Answer: It’s fairly well ground up. No setting though
Question: Is this in a glass bottle
Answer: I like to use them at the supper table. They are not as obtrusive as the larger grinders. Just use the medium size salt and pepper grinds.

Due Vittorie Oro Gold Balsamic Vinegar with Pourer, 8.45fl oz / 250ml (2 pack)

Due Vittorie

Based on 1 reviews Check latest price
  • SMOOTH FLAVOR - Oro Gold Balsamic Vinegar is the bestselling balsamic vinegar in Italy. With a natural acidity level of 6%, it is smoother than others.
  • PGI BALSAMIC VINEGAR OF MODENA - Created from a reduction of Trebbiano and Lambrusco grapes from Modena, Italy, Oro Gold is a true balsamic vinegar and is PGI (IGP) Certified to ensure you are getting the best quality product.
  • AGED IN OAK BARRELS - Due Vittorie Oro is an aged balsamic vinegar, spending a good part of its life in durmast oak barrels that encourage the transfer of tannins and the absorption of the wood essences into the vinegar.
  • FULL-BODIED SWEETNESS - The full-bodied sweetness of the Due Vittorie Oro balsamic vinegar blends harmoniously with the degree of acidity and the after-taste of black cherries.
  • MADE IN MODENA, ITALY - Due Vittorie is located in the heart of the province of Modena and works to create balsamic vinegars according to tradition, combining heritage and modern technology.

User questions & answers

Question: May I buy Due Vittorie in 16.9 fluid oz size
Answer: I don't believe so.
Question: is this kosher
Answer: No this product is not Kosher.
Question: Why's the listing say "smoother than other balsamic vinegars (especially ones with wine vinegar)" while product label shows this is part wine vinegar
Answer: This balsamic is thick and smooth. It doesn’t have a powerful vinegar punch that most balsamic vinegars sold in the US have. You can easily find vinegars like this one in Italy but it’s much harder to find in the US.
Question: If this is aged 15 to 18 years, why doesn’t the product description say so? I would like an answer from the producer
Answer: By law, iGP balsamic vinegar from Modena can’t be labeled with an age. DOP balsamic can only be labeled “affinato” (at least 12 years old) or ”extravecchio” (at least 25 years old). Some producers skirt the law by labeling their IGP products with how many times they’ve been transferred (“travasi”) to smaller barrels in the batteria. that typically happens once a year, so if a bottle says “10 travasi,” it’s likely 10 years old.

Product features

True balsamic vinegar made from a reduction of pressed Trebbiano and Lambrusco grapes from the province of Modena

Due Vittorie is situated in the heart of the province of Modena, works with Modena in its heart and is a fine example of the genuine quality of the agricultural industry of the Emilia area.

Traditional balsamic vinegar is produced from the juice of just-harvested white Trebbiano and Lambrusco grapes. Surrounded by its own vineyards – to produce the raw material – the company continues to work according to tradition.

Quality Meets Tradition

The slow ageing is a fundamental requirement for obtaining an excellent balsamic vinegar.

Due Vittorie Oro spends a good part of its life in durmast barrels that encourage the transfer of tannins and the absorption of the essences of the wood.

Before bottling, the balsamic vinegar undergoes rigorous laboratory testing to yield the high quality of the product and compliance with the regulations currently in force.

Tips on how to use our amazing balsamic vinegar

  1. Dress your veggies: coat or mist vegetables with olive oil, drizzle with balsamic vinegar and roast 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees turning once.
  2. Make barbecue sauce - balsamic is the star.
  3. Drizzle over Caprese Skewers for a great appetizer or snack.
  4. Drizzle over Bruschetta or Pizza
  5. Kick ice cream up a notch with a fruity flavored balsamic drizzle.
  6. Try it in a Peachy Fruit Salad, yum!

Giuseppe Giusti Gran Deposito Aceto Balsamico Di Modena Aged Artisan Italian Balsamic Wine Vinegar, 8.45 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)

Giuseppe Giusti

Based on 1 reviews Check latest price

  • AGED TO PERFECTION - Our balsamic wine vinegar is aged to perfection in special barrels handed down for generations of the Giusti family. • FLAVORFUL BALSAMIC VINEGAR - The flavor profile of this Gran Deposito Balsamic Vinegar brings notes of plum jam, red fruit, honey and vanilla. User questions & answers

Question: What are the ingredients
Answer: Cooked grape must and wine vinegar. It has a sweet taste but no sugar is added; the grapes themselves are the sweetness, I think. You will love this balsamic vinegar and will want to keep it on the table to use on many things. I have found that if I keep it in a dark place, away from the heat, I forget about it, so it stays on my marble pastry slab to keep it cool in our southern climate.
Question: does this need refrigeration
Answer: I do not refrigerate mine. I have had several bottles, and have never refrigerated them. It is the best Balsamic!
Question: can anybody compare this to other 18 year aged balsamics? A lot of the young stuff is barely dense
Answer: This is not aged18 years, but is good. You'll have to try a few pricer brands or go to a DOP to get much better, althugh tastes vary of course. Botte Piccola is similar but less tangy, Mussini Reserva di Famiglia is a step up to 14 years ages but is only 100 ml, not 250. Mia Bella is not in the same class, it's more food-grade. Hope this helps.
Question: Why do i not see the mandatory accredidation "aceto balsamico tradizionale di modena" printed on the label if it is the real thing
Answer: Perhaps you are referring to the DOP accreditation (Denominazione di Origine Protetta) rather than the words in your question. DOP certified balsamic vinegar production is subject to oversight be the DOP consortium. The balsamic can only contain grape must and nothing else - no wine vinegar, no sugar, no caramel coloring ... nothing. It has to be aged for a minimum of 12 years, and comes in a specifically shaped bottle which the produce has to buy from the consortium. It will also cost you 2-3x more than this depending on the source. I have a couple of bottles of the DOP and it is truly amazing balsamic, but at about $100 for a small 3.5 ounce bottle I use it sparingly and probably wouldn't put it on a salad. I've not tried this particular balsamic, but from the reviews, it looks like a good balsamic for salads and many other uses.

Versatile and Unique Flavor

Due to the versatility of balsamic vinegar, it has earned a place in the kitchen of innovative chefs and the table of home cooks worldwide. Balsamic vinegars were traditionally served with cheese and meat but can be paired with nearly any dish, from savory to sweet, and foodies are enjoying new creative uses for it every day.

Over the years, we have added additional condiments to our repertoire. Glazes that are thick, rich reductions of our balsamic vinegars are created to enhance your meals. White and apple vinegars that are fresh and well-balanced, and even infused balsamic vinegars with a touch of truffle, fig, or raspberry.

Crafted in Modena, Italy Since 1605

Giuseppe Giusti was founded in 1605 in Modena, Italy and is the longest running and most prestigious vinegar producer worldwide. Giusti is dedicated to constantly improving its attention to the environment and adopts the best practices in order to reduce the environmental impact for greater sustainable agriculture. Today, the 17th generation of the Giusti family continues the tradition of creating beautiful balsamic vinegar.

Time-Honored Process

Grapes for Giusti’s balsamic vinegars are carefully selected for their high quality and delicate concentration of sugars and acidity, usually Lambrusco and Trebbiano varieties from the provinces of Modena and Reggio Emilia in beautiful Northern Italy. The grapes are then pressed and the fresh juice is boiled down to a thick, sweet syrup. The syrup then ages in a wooden cask along with the “Mother” vinegar.

Aged in Centuries Old Casks

The heart of our production is a collection of 600 casks dating back to the 1600s, from where the purest extractions that create the unmistakable aroma of our balsamic vinegars are collected. Casks provide an intensity of wood essences and aromas to vinegars, and the older the cask, the more complex the vinegar. Each vinegar is aged to perfection and IGP certified to ensure authenticity.

User questions & answers

Question: How long has this been aged for
Answer: 100% barrel-aged wine must and barrel-aged wine vinegar. No additives or preservatives as required by the Italian Growers Association.
Question: Where on the label does it have the IGP seal
Answer: Balsamic vinegar should never be refrigerated. In fact, the wine must (the crucial ingredient of balsamic vinegar) is aged in wood barrels that have been exposed to the elements during the aging process. Specifically, a small hole cut at the top of the barrel allows natural evaporation during the aging process. Wine vinegar is then added to the wine must. Like olive oil and vinegar, balsamic vinegar should simply be stored out of direct sunlight at room temperature. I suggest leaving the balsamic vinegar out of the fridge for a few days and it may return to normal, but it is quite possible that some separation has occurred.
Question: What are this product's ingredients
Answer: This bottle is a great value in balsamic vinegar, but the Amazon minions that type these descriptions all day do make mistakes from time to time.
Question: Is this supposed to solidify in the fridge? I found that after using maybe a quarter, it is no longer pouring, and appears to have solidified. Normal
Answer: Keep it in your regular kitchen cabinet or your pantry. Balsamic vinegar doesn't need any special care. Keep it away from direct heat and sunlight and do not put it in the fridge. Balsamic vinegar does not expire so basically you could store it for many years. Nevertheless, the expiration date is printed on the back label, it should give you plenty of time to consume it.

User questions & answers

Question: How long has this product been aged before bottling
Answer: In Italy, the only balsamic that can state age is a DOP product. These run at a minimum of 12 years and require the approval of the Consortium there. In keeping with these rules, we are not able to state the specific number of years aged. I can, however, give you some extra info on the pre-bottling aging process. This balsamic is a Balsamic Vinegar of Modena - balsamic that is aged in wooden casks. This balsamic has been aged in Oak barrels with the minimum eighty percent concentrated grape must and aged red wine vinegar. With this high quantity of grape must, you'll find a balsamic that is wonderfully sweet (no added sugars) and with a great thickness. This 16 fl oz balsamic is a great mix of quantity and quality such that you have a deep viscosity that will work well for a salad and cling right on to meats, cheeses, bread and more. If you are in the hunt for a DOP certified balsamic, look for a 3.4 oz bottle with the specific certification from the Italian consortium. This is the one size they'll come in and typically range around $150-250 per 3.4 oz bottle. If you're thinking of a balsamic for every day and weekly use, we'd be happy if you gave our product a go. If you are not completely satisfied, we are happy to help you.
Question: is this contain alcohol
Answer: No. There is no alcohol in Blazing Bella Balsamic (Barrel aged traditional, 250mg). I have many of their balsamic vinegars and they are all delicious. I wouldn't even consider purchasing another brand of balsamic vinegar. Blazing Bella is the best!!! None of their balsamic vinegars have any alcohol.
Question: What are the ingredients
Answer: For the traditional: 100% Balsamic Vinegar. Scroll through product images to see Nutrition Facts - at the bottom of that image, the ingredients are listed.
Question: does the 8.5 oz sampler come with a pourer
Answer: Yes, each 8.5 fl oz bottle comes with a built-in plastic pourer.
