12 best truffle oils
Truffle oil is a gourmet food product known for its distinct and luxurious flavor. It is used in cooking to infuse dishes with the rich and earthy essence of truffles, a type of fungi highly prized in culinary circles. Here's what you should know about truffle oil:
Truffle Varieties: Truffle oil is typically made using the aroma and flavor compounds found in various types of truffles, including black truffles and white truffles. These are among the most sought-after and expensive culinary ingredients in the world.
Oil Base: Truffle oil is often made by infusing a neutral oil, such as olive oil or grapeseed oil, with truffle flavor. The oil serves as a carrier for the truffle aroma, allowing it to be easily incorporated into dishes.
Artificial vs. Natural Flavor: There are two main types of truffle oil: those made with natural truffle flavor and those made with synthetic or artificial flavor compounds. Natural truffle oil is typically considered superior in quality and flavor.
Intense Flavor: Truffle oil has a potent and intense truffle aroma and taste. Just a few drops can add a significant truffle flavor to a dish, making it a cost-effective way to enjoy truffle-infused cuisine without the expense of using fresh truffles.
Versatile Usage: Truffle oil can be used in a wide range of dishes, including pasta, risotto, eggs, salads, and even on pizza or popcorn. It is often drizzled over finished dishes just before serving to preserve its delicate flavor.
Storage: Truffle oil should be stored in a cool, dark place to maintain its flavor and aroma. Exposure to heat and light can cause it to deteriorate over time.
Culinary Complement: Truffle oil is often used to complement other truffle-based ingredients, such as truffle salt or truffle butter, to create a harmonious truffle flavor profile in dishes.
Finishing Touch: It is important to note that truffle oil is best used as a finishing touch rather than a cooking oil. Heat can diminish its flavor, so it's added to dishes just before serving.
Price Range: The price of truffle oil can vary significantly, with natural truffle oil generally being more expensive than those made with synthetic flavor. High-quality truffle oils are sought after by chefs and gourmet enthusiasts.
Truffle Oil Caution: While truffle oil is prized for its unique flavor, it's important to use it in moderation as its intense taste can easily overpower other ingredients. Start with a small amount and adjust to taste.
Truffle oil is a luxurious and flavorful addition to a variety of dishes, offering a taste of the gourmet world of truffles without the high cost of fresh truffles. Its versatility and strong truffle aroma make it a popular pantry staple for those looking to elevate their culinary creations.

User questions & answers
Question: | How strong is the basil flavor? I was looking for pure basil oil (concentrate), but this might work. I want it to finish as a drizzle |
Answer: | I can definitely taste the basil in this oil, but strength is a pretty subjective measure. The only way to determine how strong it is to your palate is to try it, I'm afraid. |
Question: | What are the exact ingredients, as written on the bottle |
Answer: | Organic high-oleic sunflower oil, sunflower oil, garlic |
Question: | Why would this need refrigeration after opening |
Answer: | Oil is oil. It can get rancid and refrigeration prevents that. Personal use suggests that the taste of basil is strong when the oil is not heated at all, in other words, use it as a drizzle or in a vinaigrette, not for cooking. |
Question: | How do you store this item, once opened? I've heard that garlic oil is not shelf-stable as it carries the risk of botulism |
Answer: | Once opened, we recommend storing our French Infused Garlic Oil in the refrigerator for up to six (6) months. |

Question: | is there real white truffle in this |
Answer: | A few shavings but great flavor. As a chef some of the best I've had for the value. |
Question: | How long does it stay good once open |
Answer: | Not long. I'd give it one season. So if you open it for winter by summer at the latest you would need to replace. I kept mine in a cool dark cabinet, you might get longer in a fridge. But really once they are open it starts to oxidize and loses flavor. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where this truffle oil from |
Answer: | The UK |
Question: | What is the latin/scientific name of the truffle used in the oil produced by truffle hunter, and any synthetic additives in truffle hunter oil |
Answer: | The oil tastes awful and I ended up throwing them away after first try. |
Question: | What's the difference between this one and the 35 dollar set, aside from size (3.4 oz vs 8.45oz |
Answer: | I have both sizes (Have ordered the larger one more recently--seems to be a much better buy). The ingredients listed appear to be the same, but that would be a good question for the manufacturer to answer. The pouring spout is larger on the larger bottle. I have not noticed a difference in taste. |
Question: | What is the shelf life per bottle? Does it last longer in the fridge |
Answer: | Yes, keep it in the fridge. I mainly make truffle butter, so I don’t use a lot at a time. Looking at the last time I ordered, it lasted about a 1 1/2 years, but I keep it in the fridge. It will turn to a semi solid state, so I let it come to room temperature, which doesn’t take long and then back in the fridge. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do I need to refrigerate after opening and what is the shelf life? Thank you |
Answer: | I got three small truffle oils. The only one that says it is cold pressed is the English truffle. |
Question: | Are these oils "First cold pressed |
Answer: | Most truffle oil especially lower priced ones will have some sort of synthetic flavoring. If the ingredient on the bottle states "truffle flavor" you can certainly bet there is some sort of synthetic flavoring in it. |
Question: | Is the truffle flavor in the oil derived from genuine truffles, synthetic flavoring, or both |
Answer: | They have both flavoring and real truffle in them. They are very delicious! |
Question: | Does this have with synthetic flavoring (like most every truf oil out there) or does it have truf, the whole truf, and nothing but the truf |
Answer: | It varies but usually a mix of white mushrooms, some cremini and portabella, all chopped. It's a good mix when you want something a bit tastier than all white mushrooms. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I didnt receive my product even though it says delivered how can I get a refund back? Or have the item resent please |
Answer: | Consider yourself lucky. Horrible truffle oil. |
Question: | how many percentage of truffle in |
Answer: | Screw %, this oil was terrible. |
Question: | What is the White Truffle flavor ingredient? Is this a fake ingredient |
Answer: | It's not fake, but it is most likely synthetic: "2,4-Dithiapentane is found as an aromatic component in some truffle varietals.234 A synthetic version is used as the primary aromatic additive in truffle oil.5 It has also been found to occur naturally in rotting wood of some species in genus Lecythis.6" Actual Alba white truffles are extremely rare and extremely expensive. They are generally only found in the small region of Alba, Piedmont Italy, their harvest season is only about 3 months from Oct-Dec, and they are, so far, unable to be cultivated. They can go for $2000/lb, and usually are bought up by the finest chef's in the world to serve at Michelin grade restaurants. So while the ingredients do list: olive oil, white truffles, white truffle flavor - the "white truffle flavor" is probably the synthetic flavor used to augment the actual white truffles. |
Question: | Arrived frozen, should I be concerned? I've purchased this 8 times, bottle that arrived today was frozen solid. Will this affect flavor or quality |
Answer: | I’m surprised you’ve ordered it 8 times. This was the worst truffle oil I ever tried. In addition to having a horrible chemical flavor, it tasted like rancid meat. Yuck, I almost vomited the first time I tried. Perhaps it improves after being frozen? I doubt it. |

Truffle Facts
Truffles are hunted by specially trained dogs who can sniff out a prize truffle a foot underground.
Back in the 19th century, the French food writer Brillat-Savarin called them ‘the diamonds of cuisine’ - and the myth was born.
The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Persians all claimed that truffles had ‘enticing’ qualities. We’ll just leave it there…
- HIGHEST QUALITY WHITE TRUFFLES: Luxury truffle oil made with the highest quality real White Truffles & extra virgin olive oil.
- BURSTING WITH FLAVOR: Expect an intense garlic aroma, with powerful white truffle flavor throughout with a gentle olive oil finish.
- COLD PRESSED EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL: Cold-pressing produces less oil than heated pressing but ensures that the delicate flavors & aromas are not damaged.
- VERSATILE AND TASTY: Use as a finishing oil to dress dishes before serving. A little goes a long way and this white truffle oil is great to use as a marinade, seasoning or salad dressing to transform any dish. Although the uses are endless, we recommend drizzling on pasta, pizza and risotto.
- SUITABLE FOR MANY DIETS: Vegetarian, Vegan, Coeliac / Gluten Free, Non-GMO, No MSG, Kosher (KLBD) & Nut Free.
User questions & answers
Question: | What in the world is truffle oil; what is a truffle |
Answer: | A truffle is a kind of fungus. White truffles are especially rare and expensive and they come from Italy. When shaved on top of meat or pasta dishes, the smell and taste is ethereal. It's very earthy and hard to describe. Truffle oil is evoo that's been infused with truffle flavor, and you can drizzle it on all kinds of things at a fraction of the cost of real truffles. ;). Most truffle oil isn't made with real truffle. This particular white truffle oil is one of the best I've tried. I loooove it. There are also black truffles, which are much more common and less expensive, but the flavor is more earthy and less refined than white truffle. |
Question: | are the actual white truffles infused in this oil from Italy or China |
Answer: | Thank you for your question - we only use the finest European Truffles (including Italy in particular). |
Question: | I bought the oil almost two weeks ago. Today I noticed a big black chunk inside. Almost looks like a little piece of super burnt bacon. what is that |
Answer: | I suggest that this would be a peice of truffle which could look like that. Or if you are that concerned go back to the supplier with a photo. |
Question: | Is this oil infused with real truffles or is it chemically made to taste like truffle? I read that most are not made with real truffles |
Answer: | I don’t see any chemicals listed in the ingredients. This is what I see: Ingredients : Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Olive Oil, White Truffles, White Truffle Flavor Where are these chemicals mentioned? |

What is Single Concentrated White Truffle Oil?
We shave the highest quality white truffles and expertly blend them with cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil. Cold-pressing produces less oil than heated pressing but ensures that the delicate flavors & aromas are not damaged. Single concentrated isn’t as strong as our double concentrated oils, allowing you to add a generous amount of oil to a dish without overpowering it.
What Does it Taste Like? Intense garlic aroma. Powerful white truffle flavor throughout with a gentle olive oil finish.
How Should I Use it? Use as a finishing oil to dress dishes before serving. Although the uses are endless, we recommend drizzling on pasta, pizza and risotto.
Recipe Suggestion - Fresh Truffle Pasta
Step 1: Using a fine cheese grater, grate two thirds of the Fresh Truffles into a mixing bowl and add the Truffle Butter and olive oil. Mix thoroughly and heat gently in a large flat bottomed pan until the butter is liquid.
Step 2: Grate the cheese with the same grater (to ensure none of the Fresh Truffles are wasted) and set aside.
Step 3: Bring a small saucepan of salted water to the boil and cook the pasta until al dente.
Drain the pasta, then put the pasta into the pan with the grated truffles. Add the grated cheese and Truffle Oil and mix through gently.
Step 4: Plate up the pasta, bring to the table, and for the grand finale, shave the remaining Fresh Truffles at the table over each plate of pasta.

User questions & answers
Question: | Important: Is the olive oil extra virgin |
Answer: | Truffleist Truffle Oil is made with pure olive oil. |
Question: | how to best keep in oil? refreigerated or not |
Answer: | Not! Oil is never refrigerated to my knowledge. |
Question: | What is the truffle flavoring? Is it artificial flavoring |
Answer: | Truffle flavoring is a culinary ingredient used to impart the flavor of truffles into the oil and can also be listed as truffle essence or truffle aroma. If you look at the ingredient panel you can see that The Truffleist truffle oil uses real black truffles and truffle flavoring to make for a full bodied truffle olive oil. Many lower quality truffle oils do not use any actual truffles but just use truffle flavoring. Always be sure to check the ingredient panel and make sure truffles are listed. I hope this helps answer your question and thank you for your patronage. |
Question: | What is truffle essence please |
Answer: | The oil is infused with a small piece of truffle so there’s a taste and smell. You’re not getting a large piece of truffle in the bottle. Yet still tasty. |
