13 best tuna fish casserole ever
Tuna fish casserole is a classic comfort food dish made with canned tuna fish and other ingredients typically found in your pantry. It's a convenient and satisfying meal option. Here's what you need to know about tuna fish casserole:
Ingredients: A basic tuna fish casserole typically includes canned tuna, cooked pasta (usually egg noodles), a creamy sauce, often made with ingredients like condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, and mayonnaise. It may also contain ingredients like onions, peas, celery, and breadcrumbs.
Preparation: To make tuna fish casserole, you typically start by cooking the pasta, then mixing it with the drained canned tuna and other ingredients in a baking dish. The creamy sauce is combined with the other ingredients to create a flavorful mixture. This mixture is then topped with breadcrumbs and baked until it's golden and bubbly.
Variations: There are many variations of tuna fish casserole. Some recipes add cheese to the mixture for extra richness, while others use different types of cream soups for added flavor. Some people like to top the casserole with grated cheese, crushed potato chips, or French-fried onions for a crunchy topping.
Nutrition: Tuna is a good source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids. However, many traditional tuna casserole recipes can be high in calories, saturated fats, and sodium due to the creamy sauce and pasta. Healthier versions can be made with reduced-fat ingredients or alternative pasta options, such as whole wheat or gluten-free pasta.
Serving: Tuna fish casserole is typically served hot from the oven. It can be a standalone meal or served with a side salad or vegetables for a well-rounded dinner.
History: Tuna fish casserole gained popularity in the mid-20th century in the United States. It was often considered a convenient and budget-friendly dish that made use of pantry staples and canned goods.
Customization: Tuna casserole is a versatile dish, and you can customize it to suit your preferences. You can add your favorite vegetables, herbs, or spices to enhance the flavor.
Leftovers: Tuna fish casserole leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated the next day. It's a great option for meal prepping and enjoying as a quick and easy lunch or dinner.
In summary, tuna fish casserole is a classic dish made from canned tuna and pantry staples. It's known for its convenience, affordability, and comforting flavor. You can adapt the recipe to your taste and dietary preferences, making it a versatile option for home cooks.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the tuna cooked like regular cans if tuna or is it raw |
Answer: | It is fully cooked. You can eat it right out of the can. Safe Catch is cooked differently than conventional tuna however: Conventional twice cooked tuna is made by putting the fish in large pre-cookers on open racks, machine processing it, rehydrating the precooked tuna in the can and cooking it again. As a result, conventional tuna lose many vital Omega 3 oils as the fish precook on racks and the oils drain away. The machine processing also impairs natural flavor and texture. At Safe Catch we do it differently. We hand cut and hand pack solid wild tuna steaks to seal in all the natural oils and nutrients and slow cook each one just once for an amazing taste. Do not drain Safe Catch tuna. There are no additives and fillers. Empty it into a bowl, chop up the steak and mix it. The tuna will reabsorb its natural oils and juices for a moist and delicious taste. You can eat it right out of the can or use it in your favorite recipe. |
Question: | I'm looking at these and see that they are twice the price of other dolphin safe brands. Why? It can't be because of where they're packaged |
Answer: | This product is over 2 1/2 times stricter Mercury Limit than the FDA. The only brand to test every fish. Every Tuna tested to a Mercury limit of 0.38 parts per million. |
Question: | How long is the shelf life (expiration date |
Answer: | I bought a case 3 to 4 months ago and the expiration date is sometime in 2021 ( couldn't make out the month). Safe Catch is the best tuna ever... |
Question: | Why is it packaged in Thailand? (cost being the obvious answer) but how safe is that and what regulations are in place there |
Answer: | I would not touch this with a 10mft. pole because of where it is processed. Thailand and most other countries have much lower standards for quality and sanitation than the US and virtually NO oversight. No matter how "sustainably" caught the seafood product is, if the company sends it to Asia/Eurasia/South America for processing, the quality of product you are buying is suspect. Don't buy it. |

Why is Safe Catch Albacore the lowest mercury limit of any albacore brand?
At Safe Catch food purity is paramount. We want to give consumers nutritious seafood they can feel confident in eating, while also protect purity in our oceans, lakes, and rivers.
Because of our innovative testing method and strict mercury limits, Safe Catch can ensure the purity of every single tuna fish and every single can of Safe Catch tuna.
How can Safe Catch be the ONLY brand that tests every tuna for mercury?
Mercury levels between two individual tuna can vary widely even between two tuna of the same size, same school and from the same location. The only way to know the purity of a fish is to test it. We partnered with engineers and scientists to develop a proprietary technology that can test each and every tuna for mercury. No other brand does this.
Safe Catch has tested over 2,000,000 fish to date. Every fish used in Safe Catch Elite tuna is tested to a mercury limit 10 TIMES stricter than the FDA limit. If the fish does not pass our strict standards, Safe Catch does not buy the fish. They are still good fish, they’re just not Safe Catch fish.
For maximum Omega3 benefit, do not drain
Conventional brands pre-cook fish on racks, draining away healthy nutrients and Omega3 oils. It is then packed in water, oil or often a GMO broth and cooked again. This impairs natural flavor and texture.
Safe Catch does it differently. We hand pack raw, sashimi-grade fish in the can and then slow cook each one to perfection in its own natural juices. This retains 100% of the tuna’s vital oils and freshness.
Do not drain Safe Catch tuna. There are no additives and fillers—just pure tuna in each can!
Health coaches love Safe Catch
"Safe Catch made me a big fan of tuna. I adore Safe Catch and how much effort they put in to make sure we only get the best tuna and that it’s clean. I always feel good about eating it and honestly, their tuna has become such a staple part of my lunch routine. Not only that, but it tastes so good!”

At Safe Catch, we hand-cut and hand pack whole sashimi-grade tuna steaks, seal them in the can and slow cook each one in its own natural juices. This artisanal cook method adds to the premium quality and superior flavor that comes in every Safe Catch can.
Why do we say "Do Not Drain"?
Safe Catch's artisanal single-cook process retains 100% of the tuna's vital oils—like heart-healthy Omega 3s. When you open a can of Safe Catch you will find a solid tuna steak with naturally occurring fish oils and juices that are full of nutrients. Pour into a bowl, mix it up and enjoy!

Question: | Is this tuna mercury tested |
Answer: | Not certain as it's not labeled w/this info. At any rate, having lived in Maine (on the shore for 48 yrs where we survived on seafood & fish) & on the Treasure Coast of FL as fisherman of Snook & Pompamo for 23 yrs.. it's the BEST tuna we have ever consumed. Just both our opinions at 70 & 72 yrs old. Try it...guaranteed, it's a lovely delicacy. 😊 |
Question: | Is Blue Harbor tuna Mercury tested |
Answer: | No mention on the can re: mercury. Sourced from South Pacific. Track able all the way back to the boat. Dolphin safe, wild caught, non-gmo. Nice quality, solid, great taste. Best canned tuna we have found |
Question: | Where is this tuna caught and processed |
Answer: | As I recall ( I don't have a can in front of me) it is US or US territory. |
Question: | Where is this packed? (Not distributed by |
Answer: | At Blue Harbor Fish Co., we can our products as close to the source as possible. Currently, our tuna is packed and canned in America Samoa. Because America Samoa is a territory of the United States, we are not required to state country of origin on our label. According to current Federal regulations, only products that are produced outside of the U.S. or one of its territories are required to list the country of origin. If a product does not specifically state the country of origin, you can assume it has been produced in the United States or a U.S. territory.Still the most densely packed tuna I have ever seen/consumed.The only tuna I have ever seen that is sodium free (no added sodium at all).100% line caught in the South Pacific and certified by MSC(Marine Seafood Council) to be traceable back to the ship/vessel that caught it. |

Question: | Does this carry a kosher certification |
Answer: | I can't fnd the "K" on the can, but call them and ask or see if they will do it for future? I first purchased from Made in the USA, then asked Amazon ti carry it for convenience. Question: | can this be shipped to St Thomas in the Virgin Islands? looking for meals to send family that has not power |
Answer: | Hello: Whether the item ships to the US Virgin Islands (US VI) is merchant dependent. Some Amazon merchants will ship outside the continental USA, some won't. I do ship to the US VI (Amazon Merchant VSD). Merchants who use Amazon FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) to ship orders may also ship to the US VI. I would recommend calling Amazon customer service concerning shipments to the US VI by merchants using Amazon FBA. |

Question: | good morning, I need to buy 75 packages of 48 cans of tuna, there will be another way to pay for them and send them to the address I will provide |
Answer: | I wouldn’t. I make patties and grill em after chilling in the fridge until I’m ready to cook them, or I put it in dishes after browning it. I would never cook from frozen though. |
Question: | What is the origin country of the fish |
Answer: | When Amazon or an Amazon seller has low stock of a product they typically raise the price. It looks better in an algorithm if you have something in stock at a higher price, then it does to have something out of stock. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What’s the expiration date for this stock |
Answer: | Premium Light Tuna in Water has a 3 year shelf life however all packages will have a best by date printed on it. If you would like to further discuss, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly at [email protected]. |
Question: | Why does it say $12 on the ad sent to me in my email? Which is it |
Answer: | The price on this item fluctuates often. It was probably $12 when the ad was sent to you. Just add this to your cart, then go to your cart. Click on "save for later". The tuna will show up below the actual cart contents. Each time you click on your "cart", Amazon will show you any price changes on your saved items, both lower and higher. The tuna cycles in price, but should be $12 in a month or so again. Grab some when you see it for $12. It's worth it. Not worth the super high prices, but fair at $12. |
Question: | what is the best if used by date |
Answer: | There's no way to know until you get it. You can expect/demand it be fresh and not nearing its "best by" date but there's no one in the warehouse picking tuna packets off the shelf reading your question. The date varies from packet to packet, batch to batch and no doubt there are different batches sitting in the warehouse. John Johnston's answer hit the nail on the head. |
Question: | Anyone know the country of origin for this tuna? I don't buy anything from China/Thailand/Asia, so I need to know. Thanks |
Answer: | On my tuna packets it says Product of Thailand. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What size are the individual cans |
Answer: | The cans say "net weight 7 ounces, dry weight 5.1 ounces." I'm not sure but I think that means they have the weight that tuna cans all used to have before the companies started making them smaller. |
Question: | Does anyone know if this is low mercury |
Answer: | I'm pretty sure there is less than a tablespoon of mercury in every can, but this is the best tasting solid white tuna I have found, do I eat it without hesitation. |
Question: | what is the use by date |
Answer: | The last cans we bought have a use by date of Sept. 4, 2022 |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long after opening does it stay fresh |
Answer: | I don't really know since I always use the entire jar when I open it. (I use it to make a delicious tuna pasta dish for dinner.) But I would think that it would last no longer than a regular can of tuna which has been opened. Probably 3 4 days to be on the safe side. |
Question: | Is this tuna line caught? Does it have a high mercury count |
Answer: | It was rated a best buy by Cook's Illustrated in their premium canned tuna taste test. The magazine did not address the mercury or fishing method. It stands head and shoulders above supermarket canned tuna in taste and is apparently from Europe. |
Question: | What is the difference between this tonnino "tuna fillets in olive oil" vs. tonnino "tuna ventresca in olive oil" (other product |
Answer: | the ventresca is softer...the regular Tonnino is more meaty. These are great products we buy Tonnino since many years |
Question: | where does this tuna originate from |
Answer: | My jars say Costa Rica in very small letters. We have bought this brand for several years and are very satisfied with it in all respects. Including the many "fancy" combinations like tuna with olive oil or capers or oregano, etc. I seem to recall that initially the tuna was from someplace like Italy, but it may have just been my imagination or ignorance or lack of attention to detail. |
