User questions & answers

Question: How long would this yeast keep in storage? There no expiration date! Also how would you store it? Refrigerator
Answer: I'm not an expert, but what I've read is "keep it cool, dark and dry but don't freeze". It should last for years if conditions are good. Don't freeze it--that will kill the yeast. Always test the yeast before adding to your wash. Mix up a glass of warm water (75-100 deg F) with some sugar. Add the amount of DADY that your recipe calls for and gently stir....then let it sit for about 20 minutes. If it froths up like a good head on a mug of beer, the yeast is alive and working. Then, just pour the glass of froth into your wash. I've been keeping mine in the refrigerator and it seems to be doing fine.
Question: What colony of Saccharomyces is in this yeast
Answer: Cerevisiae. Hope this helps
Question: What working temp range dose this have? Expiration date? If its shipped from amazon how long has it been sitting? In a uncontrolled warehouse
Answer: I use ambient (room) temperature for making beer, mead and similar. We use plastic 5 gallon water carboys as fermenters with a water glass on top (bubbler after 2 days in warm months to keep the insects out). Carboys are set in a unused bath tub where the foaming can easily be cleaned up. Dose is at least 2 tablespoons added when I can touch the carboy comfortably and again in 12 hours if the process appears to be slower than expected. (My feelings are the best way to prevent "infection" is first - solid sanitation, second - overwhelm all possible contaminating microbes. The expiration date of yeast I received in January is 9/12/18. I keep it in the refrigerator until needed. Once opened, it is stored in a mason jar in the refrigerator. I also keep a super yeast handy as a back up for mead, honey wheat or anything else in case the fermentation gets stuck. This happens occasionally, but not often regardless if it is DADY or a super yeast added first. This may have to do with the sugar concentration in the carboy. I found that the higher the sugar concentration, the more apt to have a stuck fermentation.
Question: Is this suitable for wine, cider, beer? If all which is it best for
Answer: If you are looking for fancy brews, steer clear because it does have a little bit of an odd taste. While in quarantine due to Covid19, we played around with this yeast and 64oz apple and grape juice bottles and in 5 days we had a pretty strong bubbly brew. Mixing it with a little un-fermented juice of the same kind helped take the hard edge off. We also experimented with Kilju (sugar wine) which came out surprisingly well as a mixer to juices (3 to 1 mix brew to juice). Our Kilju took about 9 days with processed white sugar and about 6 days with "sugar in the raw". It was a fun cheap project for newbies with an easy learning curve. We suggest getting a good set of airlocks if you are gonna play.

User questions & answers

Question: is it certified kosher for passover
Answer: I don't know if it was blessed by a Rabbi or if yeast even have a religious affiliation. Apparently, wine must not have been in contact with any grains, bread and dough i.e. chametz during its production to be considered kosher.
Question: how much do you use
Answer: The packets state that an entire one can be used for up to 5 gallons of solution depending upon what you are making. There are 5 grams of yeast in each packet so if you are making only one gallon of wine you need one gram or 1/5 of the package. Be sure to follow the directions stated on the packet in terms of prepping the yeast as well as storage and use thereafter of remaining yeast in the packet. I have done so and things worked quite well. A small digital scale or mini spoons are useful for measuring. Approximately 1/4 tsp of yeast is more than adequate for a gallon of wine. Having enough sugar and other necessary components for wine will yield ABV between 10-15%. Keep that in mind if you plan to make beer which I haven't.
Question: How long is the fermentation process
Answer: That all depends on what you are fermenting! If you use a hydrometer along the process you can measure how much sugar has turned into alcohol, which in turn shows when the yeast has completed its job!

Danstar Lallemand Nottingham Ale Yeast - 5 Packets

Danstar

Based on 283 reviews Check latest price

Product description

If you are looking for amazing versatility from an ale yeast, look no further than Nottingham dry brewing yeast. Nottingham offers great performance with every batch, allowing brewers to cover a wide variety of beer styles with just one yeast Type. The Nottingham strain was selected for its highly flocculent and relatively full attenuation properties. It produces low concentrations of fruity and esters aromas and has been described as neutral for ale yeast, allowing the full Natural Flavor of malt and hops to develop. The recommended fermentation temperature range of this strain is 14 degree to 21 Degrees (57 Degrees to 70 Degrees F) with good tolerance to low fermentation temperatures (12 degree C/54 Degrees F) that allow this strain to be used in lager-style beer. With a relatively high alcohol tolerance, Nottingham is a great choice for creation of higher-alcohol specialty beers.

  • Top fermenting yeast
  • High attenuation
  • Shows flocculation at completion of Fermentation, and settling is promoted by cooling and Use of fining agents and isinglass

User questions & answers

Question: good for ginger ale
Answer: I have not tried making ginger ale with this yeast. If you are trying to make a non alcoholic soda this probably isn’t your best bet. But this is one of my favorite yeasts for hard cider making it adds a bit of an oatmeal flavor after fermenting so it may not be great for ginger ale but it is worth a shot.
Question: What is Popular Edition? It's more expensive, but doesn't show why
Answer: The Lable has recently been changed. It is still the same yeast
Question: What original gravity (og) or brix are the cider makers using with this? looking for a medium/medium-dry result (not bone dry). thanks
Answer: Hi, Nottingham yeast is viable up to 14% alcohol. It is a highly attenuative yeast so it will make a very dry cider unless you add sweetening
Question: Is it one packet per gallon
Answer: No. One packet for 5 gallons. So, 5 packets will make 25 gallons.

Question: Is this yeast all natural or is there another ingredient besides yeast? Thanks
Answer: There is an emulsifier to assist with re-hydration, but it is mostly wine yeast.
Question: Which yeast do you recommend for making rice wine
Answer: For rice wine a lot of people recommend either the Lalvin V1116 dry yeast or White Labs WLP099 liquid yeast.
Question: which yeast do you recommend for active dry yeast to make dandelion wine
Answer: EC-1118 or champagne yeast would work best.
Question: What is the difference between this and champagne yeast
Answer: Thanks for asking. Champagne yeast produces wines with a very smooth, clean, crisp flavor whereas the K1-V1116 yeast produces more fruity and floral wines.

User questions & answers

Question: What's the current expiration on the packets being sold
Answer: You will see the date on the package once you get the package. You WILL NOT be sold old yeast. That is not how these folks wok.
Question: if wine stops working and its too sweet can more yeast get it working again? We started with 4gallon juice one gallon well water 10# sugar. help
Answer: with that much sugar in the mix you are going to need champaign yeast and even then you're going to end up with cool aid that has @ 22% ABV. I like sweet desert wines but that much sugar will mask the fruit flavors. in the future max sugar per gallon should be 2 cups per gallon with the champaign yeast. it's better for most yeast to add only 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 cups per gallon. you need a hydrometer to be sure. if you want it sweet make the adjustment on the back side with juice concentrates.
Question: What is the shelf life
Answer: Thanks for your question. It is best to keep your yeast cool, and it will last for up to a year.
Question: is this the same 71B
Answer: The new name is 71B. It use to be called 71B-1122. Its the same yeast with a revised name.

User questions & answers

Question: What foes into the mash becides sugar and yeast
Answer: You'll need a packet of the carbon. That goes in with the yeast at the start of fermentation. Once it stops bubbling you need to use Turbo Clear. It's a two part solution, give it at least a day to settle.
Question: can i use this with a rice mash
Answer: It’s good yeast, you can use it to ferment any sugar. However, in a rice mash you will probably need to add some amylase to convert the starches, and you might not get the “turbo” rate, but it will work.
Question: Should I place excess packages in the freezer or refrigerator? I know the package says cool dry place. Will freezing hurt product
Answer: I keep my extra in the fridge. Up to a year so far. Works great for me. Not sure about freezing.
Question: I am making a fruit mash and was wondering how to apply this product here? Just the yeast and sugar straight into the mash
Answer: Yes, easy as can be. I use 5 1/2 gallons of warm water, 18lbs of table sugar and a pack of the carbon. It takes about 10 days to completely finish bubbling. Add the clearing agent and wait another couple of days. I get 5 quarts of 190 proof after distillation. I've done this many times and the results of solidly consistent.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this good to make dog treats
Answer: I have given my dogs brewers yeast for many years. One of my dogs had been hit by a car and could only run on 3 legs. After sprinkling brewers yeast powder on her food, she ran on all 4 legs until she died of old age. My Lab has serious hop dysplasia, and brewers yeast keeps her limber (paired with a good diet). Also does keep ticks and mosquitoes away, and I'm assuming, the fleas as well. I give my 85# Lab 1 Tbsp. powder sprinkled on her food twice daily. --Not a prescription! I'm not a vet! Simply saying what has worked for my pets.
Question: Does this contain chromium
Answer: Hi! The ingredients that are listed just says brewers yeast on packaging but this article says that brewers yeast is a source of chromium. https://www.healthline.com/health/brewers-yeast
Question: can this be used to make alcohol
Answer: No. But it can be used as a yeast nutrient. What I mean is.. When you make wine, beer, or spirit's. The active yeast used to make alcohol feed on this inactive yeast. Live yeast used in brewing need the same nutrients that this yeast provides. To have a active and healthy fermentation.
Question: Question to seller: why is this marketed as brewers yeast when it’s actually nutritional yeast? Big difference
Answer: Sue, in the description of this product you can reed Brewer's Yeast, this is yeast but in powder and not in flakes, its has less servings and for that reason double the calories, sodium, etc..... same thing but for different uses I believe.

About our Brewer's Yeast

Brewer’s Yeast is from the Saccharomyces cerevisiae species, a one-celled fungus, which is naturally found on the skin of grapes and other fruits. This yeast is a favorite among vegans, vegetarians and nursing mothers. Just remember, it is not to be confused with baker’s, nutritional or torula yeasts as it is inactive and will not make bread rise! Use Anthony’s Brewer’s Yeast Powder on cereals, salads, baked goods, soups, sauces, or by blending it into smoothies. This yeast is derived from molasses and is in its purest form, causing it to be naturally bitter.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this yeast bloom like other yeast? After putting warm water in it never blooms. Tried 2 packs
Answer: That's a great question. No, the yeast will not necessarily behave like that. It just needs to be re-hydrated and added to the wine.
Question: So this may be the dumbest question ever, but can you use this yeast to make bread
Answer: It's not a dumb question at all. For kicks, I made a loaf using the Premier Blanc a few months back just to see what would happen. I'm certainly not an expert baker, but I thought it was at least as good as the ones I have made using regular bread yeast. I've got extra packs, you've got me thinking maybe I'll try again to see if it's consistently good.
Question: What abv will the yeasts get to
Answer: That's a great question. The alcohol tolerance for these yeast range from 14% to 18%.

Fermenter’s Favorites Borosilicate Erlenmeyer Flask 2000 Ml Yeast Starter Kit For Home Brewing Yeast Propagation

Based on 1 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Propagating a single pack of yeast using our yeast starter kit exponentially increases the number of cells you pitch. With a higher pitching rate, you will see a shorter lag phase, lower amounts fermentation-related off-flavors, and less incidence of bacterial contamination in your homebrewed beer. Preparing a yeast starter is easy - you mix a very small batch of malt extract wort (without hops), briefly boil and chill it, then ferment it in a flask a day or two before brewing the main batch. The yeast cells from a single pack of yeast will reproduce in the starter, increasing in number from a few dozen billion cells to hundreds of billions. The 2000 ml yeast starter kit is preferred for large starters for lagers, strong beers, and 10 gallon batches of homebrew. It features a heat-resistant borosilicate glass flask, which allows you to boil, cool, and ferment the starter wort in the same vessel. Also includes a foam stopper, one pound of DME, and complete instructions.
