12 best bran cereal muffins
Bran cereal muffins are a delicious and nutritious breakfast option that incorporates bran cereal into a convenient and portable form. Here's a general idea of what bran cereal muffins typically involve:
Ingredients:
- Bran Cereal: This is a high-fiber cereal often made from the outer layer of grains like wheat. It provides a good source of dietary fiber, which is beneficial for digestive health.
- Flour: Typically, all-purpose flour or a mixture of whole wheat and all-purpose flour is used to give the muffins structure.
- Sugar: Sweeteners like granulated sugar or brown sugar are commonly used to add sweetness to the muffins.
- Baking Powder and Baking Soda: These leavening agents help the muffins rise and become fluffy.
- Salt: A small amount of salt enhances the flavor of the muffins.
- Eggs: Eggs provide moisture and contribute to the structure of the muffins.
- Milk or Yogurt: These ingredients add moisture and richness to the muffins.
- Oil or Butter: Fats contribute to the tenderness and flavor of the muffins.
- Optional Add-ins: You can customize your muffins by adding ingredients like nuts, dried fruits, or seeds for extra texture and flavor.
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Usually to around 350°F (175°C).
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the bran cereal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk or yogurt, and oil or melted butter.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Avoid overmixing, as it can lead to dense muffins.
- Add Optional Ingredients: If using any additional ingredients like nuts or dried fruits, fold them into the batter.
- Fill Muffin Cups: Spoon the batter into muffin cups lined with paper liners or greased. Fill each cup about two-thirds full.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for around 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool: Allow the muffins to cool in the muffin tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

| Question: | does anyone know if this is milled to the Dukans diet requirements of Milling and Sifting Index M2bisB6TM? thanks |
| Answer: | Yes, this can be used in the Dukan Diet. This is exactly why I use it. |
| Question: | Is this the same oat bran used in making bread? I want to follow a low carb receipt and need "oat bran |
| Answer: | I have used it for making bread and it works fine. |
| Question: | WHICH IS HEALTHIER--OAT BRAN OR STEEL CUT OATS |
| Answer: | Here's what I found: Catherine is right! Oat bran lowers cholesterol more than oats; it's lower in digestible carbs than steel cut oats (Nutrition label is different). Steel cut oats are lower in "glycemic index" than rolled oats, but the nutrition label stays the same. So, for me Oat bran >steel cut oats>rolled oats>instant oatmeal, based on cholesterol lowering, weight loss. effects/glycemic load. Taste and texture of oat bran are fine for me. |
| Question: | Are there nutritional differences between oat bran and wheat bran |
| Answer: | Both are high in fiber (Wheat - insoluble, Oat - Soluble) and have similar health benefits. Oat bran can help to lower cholestrol and maintain blood sugar levels. Wheat bran can sometimes cause bloating and gas. |

User questions & answers
| Question: | How long does this stuff take to cook? Is there salt added |
| Answer: | You put the measured amount of hot water for the number of servings you want in a saucepan, add the appropriate amount of cereal, then I add about 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon per serving, stir it all together and cook it (medium flame) uncovered for 1 minute stirring occasionally. Then cover the pan, remove from heat and let it stand for 3 minutes. There is no salt in it but I prefer to add some to the cooking water (1/4 t per cup). Then I sprinkle both white and brown sugar on top when serving, then add milk. This is really a YUMMY breakfast or lunch! (And it's very good for you too.) |
| Question: | How many carbs per serving |
| Answer: | Total Carbohydrate is 25g per serving (1/2 Cup (40 g)) |
| Question: | Is this "Raw Oat Bran |
| Answer: | Yes. Cook as directed! Yummy with brown sugar and milk. |
| Question: | does quaker oatbran contain gluten |
| Answer: | Hello, I found a resource about "gluten free oat bran" for you, which is below. The Oat Bran I get from Quaker is not gluten free but I love it and make oat bran muffins every 16 days for me to have two each day. I've been buying this for 8 years and the reason for buying from Amazon is it's "available"!! You can not always find oat bran in the grocery store, and it's cheaper and just easy to purchase online and have when I need it. Here is the article I found: "What is the difference between oat bran and oatmeal?Oat bran contains about 50% more fiber and soluble fiber than oatmeal, making it more effective at lowering cholesterol and helping digestion. It also has more protein, calcium, iron, thiamin, phosphorus, riboflavin, magnesium, and zinc. The main structural difference is that oatmeal (typically rolled oats) is whole grain, while oat bran is just the bran of the oat. Finally, because oat bran is creamier (due to the finer texture of the product), it satiates hunger more than oatmeal.Does gluten-free oat bran exist and where can I find it?Gluten-free oat bran does exist although it is not as common as the regular oat bran. It can be found in some major supermarket chains, but it is more commonly sold in specialized natural foods stores. You can also find it online from a number of reputable sellers." |

| Question: | is this unprocessed wheat bran |
| Answer: | No, it is not. Don't know what happened to the Unprocessed Millers Bran they used to package. This does not produce the same great muffins I have been making for more than twenty-five years! |
| Question: | Would soaking the bran improve the taste and texture without losing the stool softening and motivating benefits |
| Answer: | Yes, my husband mixes in hot water and Stevia so it’s like a hot cereal. We’ve also added jelly too it. |
| Question: | Is this coarse or fine wheat bran |
| Answer: | This is the only wheat bran I've ever used, but it is coarser than I expected, so my uneducated guess would be "coarse." |

Bob's Red Mill Wheat Bran
Wheat Bran is the outer layer of the wheat kernel and an excellent source of dietary fiber, particularly insoluble fiber. Add it to baked goods and casseroles as a natural fiber supplement to increase your daily intake.
The milling process gently separates the protective outer layer of the wheat berry from the endosperm and oil-rich germ. The resulting wheat bran boasts a high fiber content (6 grams per 1/4 cup serving) that also acts as a prebiotic, which may promote healthy gut bacteria and increasing diet transit time, thus guarding against constipation. Some studies indicate that wheat bran fiber may also slow fermentation in the gut, allowing short chain fatty acids to move throughout the colon. If you’re looking to up the fiber content in your diet, consider eating fruits and vegetables that are high in fiber, as well as products like oat bran (which contains soluble fiber). Add wheat bran while cooking hot cereals, baked goods, casseroles and more.

User questions & answers
| Question: | Can this be used like flour in baking |
| Answer: | Hi there! You can't really use it as a flour, because it can't be milled very well. You can use it as a high-fiber addition to your baked goods (1/4 cup or so in addition to your flour). There is such a thing as Oat Fiber and and you can substitute oat fiber for 1/4 of the total amount of oat flour called for in a recipe. We will be carrying oat fiber very soon. Lastly, if you have a grain miller at home you can mill our Steel Cut Oats into Oat Flour for baking. Alternatively, if you have a powered blender (e.g. like a Vitamix), then you can use Rolled Oats to create your own Oat Flour. We hope that helps! |
