12 best espresso beans

Espresso beans refer to coffee beans that are specifically roasted and ground for making espresso, a strong and concentrated coffee beverage. Here's what you need to know about espresso beans:

  1. Roasting:

    • Espresso beans are typically roasted to a medium or dark roast level, which helps develop a rich flavor and aroma.
    • The roasting process caramelizes the sugars in the beans, creating the characteristic espresso flavor profile.
  2. Bean Types:

    • Espresso beans can be made from various types of coffee beans, including Arabica and Robusta.Arabica beans are more common for espresso due to their smoother, less bitter taste.
  3. Flavor Profile:

    • Espresso beans are known for their bold and intense flavor profile, featuring a balance of bitterness, sweetness, and acidity.
    • The flavor can include notes of chocolate, nuts, caramel, and sometimes fruity or floral undertones, depending on the specific beans and roasting process.
  4. Grinding:

    • Espresso beans are ground to a fine consistency to suit the brewing process in an espresso machine.
    • The fine grind allows for optimal extraction of flavors and oils during the brewing, producing a concentrated shot of espresso.
  5. Brewing Espresso:

    • To brew espresso, finely ground espresso beans are packed into a portafilter, which is then inserted into the espresso machine.
    • Hot water is forced through the coffee grounds under pressure, resulting in a concentrated and flavorful shot of espresso.
  6. Usage in Other Coffee Drinks:

    • While espresso beans are specifically roasted for making espresso, they can also be used as a base for various other coffee drinks, including lattes, cappuccinos, and Americanos.
  7. Storage:

    • Proper storage is essential to maintain the freshness and flavor of espresso beans.
    • Espresso beans should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place to prevent oxidation and preserve their quality.

Espresso beans are a key ingredient in making a variety of coffee beverages and are favored for their strong, robust flavor that forms the foundation of many coffee enthusiasts' daily coffee routines.

User questions & answers

Question: are these beans "oily"? thanks
Answer: hi. the beans are not oily at all. they are perfectly roasted. oily is a misconception that oily is the freshest bean, but it can be quite the opposite. depending on what type of machine you have the Lavazza beans are the best. We have a Gaggia Titanium and all other beans get stuck/clogged. hope this helps.
Question: Would this coffee be good to use in a regular drip coffeemaker, or is an espresso maker required? Thank you
Answer: It will make a smooth, flavorable cup of regular coffee. Just grind the beans for a drip coffee machine. The Super Crema Espresso Beans are an Italian roast (medium) rather than a dark roast that is sometimes bitter. Some mornings when time is tight, I make a pot of regular coffee and steam milk for cafe au lait.
Question: How many servings are in this bag
Answer: It all depend on how you use it. I use 19 grams of beans to pull a 36 gram 28 second espresso shot (I use a non-pressurized filter). 2.2 lbs = 1000 grams, thus, I get about 52 cappuccinos. I probably average about 2.5 per day, therefore, each bag lasts me about 3 weeks. With a pressurized filter, the standard is 7 grams per shot, therefore, 140 shots. Using my chemex I will use 10 grams per cup, therefore I get 100 cups. Many people use 7 grams per cup, so they will get 140 cups. Hope this helps. (btw, this comes to about 45 cents per cappuccino, with milk it comes to 60 cents each, at 2.5 per day I spend $1.50 for what would cost me $10 per day at Starbucks (the McDonald's of coffee).
Question: What is the difference going from Super Crema to Gran Crema
Answer: Both are medium roasts. However, the Gran Crema is 40% South America arabica and 60% Southeast Asia robusta beans, where Super Crema is 60% Southeast Asia robusta beans and and 40% South American arabica beans, so the Super Crema is going to be more delicate with brighter tones (more fruity) while the Gran Crema is going to have deeper and richer tones, more chocolate-y and nutty. For those who say that these beans are bitter, they--or their machine--may be overextracting the beans. If grinding your own, may want to try a coarser grind to make less bitter. If sour, may want to try grinding finer. Can be a little difficult to distinguish the two, so may want to do some research online for how to differentiate. Regarding the flavor of creama (not this product, but generally speaking), creama usually does not taste very good. What crema does help do is allow one to identify how well their extraction went.

Starbucks Espresso Dark Roast Whole Bean Coffee, 20 Ounce (Pack of 1)

Starbucks

Based on 18 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Every espresso beverage we handcraft for you begins right here. Our master roasters coax the beans along, the heat taking them deep and dark, for a recipe for caramelly sweetness so right it's never been changed. The quest began in 1975 with a search for the perfect melding of beans and roast, ending months of intense experimentation later with the coffee you're holding in your hand.

  • Espresso Roast is intense, caramelly sweet and perfect with steamed milk
  • While we've updated our look and how we describe our tasting notes, Starbucks Espresso Roast is still the same rich and caramelly, great-tasting coffee you know and love
  • Enjoy the Starbucks coffee you love without leaving the house
  • For finest taste, always use clean, filtered water; clean your machine before using; and grind beans just before brewing
  • Each pack includes a 20-ounce bag of whole-bean Starbucks coffee

User questions & answers

Question: Hi may I Know the expiration date of this please
Answer: I don't see why you couldn't mix milk with it, but it is a very mild, gentle tea, no harshness whatsoever. Unless you just like milk with your tea, it really isn't necessary.
Question: Is this coffee used to make their mochas at their coffee chains
Answer: Yes
Question: Which blend do they use for their iced coffees
Answer: Yes, their instructions are quite vague. Optional First Step: heat the pot (which you are going to brew the tea) with hot water. Let this sit briefly to heat up the pot (1 minute is fine) then pour out the water you used to heat the pot. This is done just to heat the pot, not tea involved. Note that this step is more important if you are using a clay, porcelain, glass or metal pot to brew your tea. Second Step: Boil water then wait until temperature drops to 170 to 185 Fahrenheit (76 to 85 C). Third Step: Add tea to pot, then pour your water over tea to steep. Fourth Step: Steep tea between 1 and 4 minutes. Pull tea bag out. Their tea is quality enough you can usually get 3 different steepings from 1 bag. Note: You can try different temperatures (between 170 and 185) and different steep times (between 1 and 4 minutes) to see where you like your tea. I prefer mine steeped closer to 175 for 2 minutes on the first steep then 170 for 1 minute for the next two steepings.
Question: What is the shelf life of this coffee -- the recommended use by date -- compared to the shipping date
Answer: approx, 4 -3/4" high x 3-1/2" wide Hope that sufficiently answers your question. Best tea I have ever had

User questions & answers

Question: best before date
Answer: If you buy pre-ground, the best buy is before you ever bought it. With whole beans, don't grind until immediately before you use it. Don't buy more than you can use within a couple of months. First order arrived 3 weeks from roasting date and tasted great . Second order arrived 6 months from roasting date, much longer than I would have liked, however, still tastes great!
Question: Is this dark roast oily? Can it be used in an fully-automatic machine
Answer: They ARE oily now. I have used these beans in my super automatic machine for 3 years, UNTIL the last few batches (I have on subscription with Amazon and use only these in 1kg bag per month for 3 years). Now they are so oily they clogged my grinder in 2 bags. I can see it staining my hopper. Now looking for dryer beans.
Question: How old were the beans you were delivered? Was it roasted more than a month ago
Answer: 4 months past the best by date. Same issued occurred when ordering Lavazza Super Crema beans from Amazon. Orginal product was outdated by 11months, its Amazon replacement was also outdated by 5 months. When ordering this Lavazza coffee beans from Amazon, expect the product to be past its best by date.
Question: how is this compared to the Lavazza Super Crema Espresso? which is better
Answer: It's a different blend, therefore a different taste. They are both whole beans to be grinded. Super Crema is intended for commercial use and the origin of the beans and amounts used are different from Gran Crema which is made for home use. Super Crema is 80% arabicas (a mix from Brazil, washed Indian Arabica and high quality Columbian) and 20% robustas (a mix from Indonesia and Vietnam). Gran Crema is 40% South America arabica and 60% Southeast Asia robusta. Most people find them comparable and similar, but taste is a personal thing, otherwise we'd all eat and drink the same things. One last thing, both Super Crema and Gran Crema are intended for mixing and not straight espresso. This does not mean that they are bad for espresso and are most certainly superior to the vast majority of coffee brands available for espresso, but there is certainly better choices for espresso within Lavazza.

User questions & answers

Question: My bag says "Roasted 3/11" - I hope that doesn't mean March 2011?? Any idea how they date their bags
Answer: Just want to say that if you're talking about the black organic tea from Ceylon, Ceylon is not China. It's Sri Lanka. You are right to be concerned about heavy metals in tea, most especially from, China. Check out this article on the matter, specifically Table 4 if you read nothing else. This is what I use as a guide for where to source my teas. https://www.hindawi.com/journals/jt/2013/370460/ In a nutshell, buy your organic green tea from Sri Lanka and your black tea could be from India or Sri Lanka, although that decision is a little less clear based on the chart mentioned above.
Question: why not free shipping with Prime
Answer: I never had a problem with Bloating so I don't know if it will help. I know it calms my stomach and has a wonderful taste
Question: How many ounces? I can't believe you didn't put the weight in the product description
Answer: Hi. Yes each package has 20 . There are six packages for a total of 120 tea bags
Question: how fresh is this coffee
Answer: The Chamomile flowers are grown in Central Europe as well as North America.

User questions & answers

Question: Someone mentioned her bag had a "best by" date that was only 2 weeks away. What are others' experiences
Answer: I would say no, there is not usually soy in tea
Question: How do I Cancel a subscription, so I won’t have to cancel the order every month
Answer: According to the description "...Indian high-grown"
Question: do they offer this in bean form
Answer: I have been brewing Kombucha with this tea for years now with no problems but I use a combination of organic black tea (50%), this brand Silver Needle white tea (30%%) & organic green tea (20%). To have a healthy scoby you should add black at least every other brew. You should also not use teas with additives or added oils because they throw off the balance of yeast & bacteria which is why I stay away from blends. But I am not sure why white tea cannot be used unlimited as long as you add black tea or switch over to black tea st least every other brew.
Question: Can this blend be used for pour-over and/or french press too
Answer: I have tried the Gunpowder several times and found it to be a decent green tea. It is not as good as Stash (or a couple of others) but it is cheaper. I prefer Davidson's Imperial green because it has more flavor.

Peet's Coffee Espresso Forte, Dark Espresso Roast, Whole Bean Coffee

While many of our coffees make an excellent espresso, this is the first blend we created specifically for that most demanding method of preparation. With bold, rich flavors and a name that signifies strength, Espresso Forte strikes the perfect balance between the earthy depth of coffee from the Indo-Pacific and the bright, lively spiciness that's characteristic of the Americas. Everything we love in espresso, this blend has effusive aroma, stout body and luscious crema enveloping a tangy core of pure coffee flavor. Fortissimo!

The Pursuit of Perfection

Alfred Peet was renowned for achieving perfection through his blends. His secret? Bringing together coffees so exceptional, each could stand on its own. For unparalleled complexity and nuance, look no further than our signature blends.

Roasted by Hand

We use our five senses—not computers—to unlock each bean’s flavor potential. Our roasters are masters of their craft, fine-tuning the nuances of each blend and single-origin they roast.

Always Fresh. Never Stale.

We mark every bag of Peet’s with a roast date so you know exactly when it was roasted. We hold ourselves to higher freshness standards than others because we believe coffee doesn’t get better with age, it gets stale.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use starbucks rewards even though I don’t have a receipt to show for them
Answer: Like one comment from before you can do a vacuum seal to prolong the shelf life and/or at the same time with or without vacuum seal, store them in a freezer ziploc bag in the freezer.
Question: why did I receive ground coffee instead of the whole bean that was ordered
Answer: I believe that there is no soy!
Question: What Sizes Are Available
Answer: You can read further down in the description and find out or Google it
Question: Am i correct that pike place roast doesn't have the burnt/over-roasted taste that is characteristic of starbucks? thank you
Answer: The description does say 20 count Box, and there are 6 of them. That would lead me to say that the two dollar and change price is for 120 tea bags. But further down in the description someone says they found it on sale for $2 per Box. That leads you to think there is one Box. I would say that $2.79 gets you 120 tea bags. I have had this tea before and I enjoyed it. It seems cheap enough to certainly give it a try!

User questions & answers

Question: besides French Roast, which varieties are dark roast
Answer: From their website: Our coffees are generally considered a ‘medium’ roast. The whole truth is that we source really high quality coffees and roast each coffee just enough to bring out the best of what’s inherent in those particular beans. Typically, our blends are more medium roast and our single origin coffees are on the lighter end of the spectrum. For those of you that love that dark, roasty flavor, we have our French Roast.
Question: How do insure this is authentic
Answer: I dont know what you mean by authentic. I will just tell you what i know. I heard a commercial on the radio. It stated that this was the best coffee in the world by a pole. So I bought a bag and gave it to my sister for Christmas 2 years ago. She raved and raved about it and started buying it herself cuz now no other coffee will do. Now I give it as gifts. I've given it to my fiance his mother my daughter and coworkers and everybody says that it's delicious. I hope this helps
Question: How much time has passed after roasting to ship date
Answer: I can only respond on behalf of MONSTERZ FACTORY. Our company picks up directly from Stumptown Roasters several times a week. They Roast small batches fresh daily. We send it directly to Amazon as fast as we can, So it is fresh & available to ship to you when you order.
Question: Is there any way to get reasonably fresh beans here on Amazon Prime
Answer: Hi, The reason it is difficult to get fresh beans through Amazon Prime is because the prime order system works through various distribution centers where supply sits until a purchase is made. The trade-off is that your coffee gets there within two days, but you run the risk of getting coffee that is past the recommended consume date. We do not offer Prime Shipping because we want to ensure your coffee is received within the two to three weeks of being roasted. Due to the new Biotre bags, we consider anything past three weeks unacceptable to sell. We offer standard shipping, yes it is an additional cost, but we physically ship it ourselves, which means we can ensure your coffee is fresh. Thanks, Jake's Collection

User questions & answers

Question: This espresso says notes of cacao and sugar. I wonder how much sugar content on this coffee
Answer: I have a Breville espresso machine that has a built in grinder which goes from 1(fine) to 16. For espresso, I use setting #4, and this produces espresso that I like (lots of crema). Ultimately, I think the grinder setting is based on type of brew method you want to use and personals preference.
Question: Is this ground coffee / espresso or is it whole bean as the label says? I need to know quickly I'm under pressure to get this order in
Answer: I use this coffee every morning in my drip machine. I grind the beans using a setting between espresso and auto drip. Love this coffee. Medium roast, low acid and full rich flavor.
Question: Is the roast date provided on each bag of sweet espresso (new packaging)? thank you
Answer: Hi I just love the espresso blend. Don’t know the other . It most likely good too
Question: Does this coffee make a crema
Answer: I dont see any difference
