13 best borracho beans

Borracho beans, also known as "drunken beans," are a flavorful and hearty Mexican dish that is traditionally made with pinto beans cooked in a beer-based broth. This dish is popular in various regions of Mexico and is often served as a side dish or as a main course, accompanied by tortillas or rice. Here are some key details about borracho beans:

  1. Ingredients: Borracho beans typically include pinto beans as the primary ingredient. Other common ingredients used in this dish include bacon or chorizo for added flavor, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and various spices and seasonings like chili powder, cumin, and oregano. However, the defining characteristic of borracho beans is the use of beer as a cooking liquid, which imparts a unique and rich flavor to the dish.

  2. Preparation: To make borracho beans, pinto beans are soaked and then simmered in a flavorful broth made by combining beer, water or broth, and the aforementioned seasonings. The beans absorb the beer's flavors and become tender and savory during the slow cooking process. Bacon or chorizo is often added to enhance the dish's smoky and meaty profile.

  3. Flavor Profile: Borracho beans are known for their robust and complex flavor. The combination of pinto beans, beer, and spices results in a dish that is both savory and slightly tangy. The beer adds a unique depth of flavor, and the spices provide a mild heat that complements the beans' natural earthiness.

  4. Variations: There are many regional variations of borracho beans throughout Mexico. Some versions may use different types of beans, such as black beans or red beans, and various types of beer. The choice of beer can significantly impact the flavor of the dish, with darker beers imparting a richer taste.

  5. Serving: Borracho beans can be served as a side dish alongside grilled meats, tacos, or enchiladas. They are also delicious as a topping for nachos or as a filling for burritos. In some cases, borracho beans are enjoyed as a hearty stew with crusty bread.

  6. Cultural Significance: Borracho beans are a beloved and comforting dish in Mexican cuisine. They are often prepared for gatherings, barbecues, and celebrations, where their savory and satisfying nature makes them a popular choice among both locals and visitors.

  7. Customization: Like many traditional dishes, borracho beans can be customized to suit individual preferences. Some people may prefer their beans spicier, while others may adjust the level of alcohol flavor by using different types of beer or adjusting the cooking time.

In summary, borracho beans are a flavorful and versatile Mexican dish known for their use of beer as a key ingredient. This dish offers a rich and savory flavor profile and is enjoyed in various culinary contexts, making it a popular choice in Mexican cuisine.

User questions & answers

Question: Use by date
Answer: It does have suction cups, but I don't always use them.
Question: msg in it
Answer: The best way to dry out the bath pillows after using it is to leave it flat on a dry surface. Some of our customers also like to leave the pillow out in the sun. These two ways are ok. By the way, we recommend gently hand washing our bath pillow with cold water and gentle detergent. Do not use bleach. Thank you.
Question: I am an idiot. How do you remove the lid? My two bottles lids seem to be welded on
Answer: The suction cups on mine came off after a few uses as they weren’t secured very well. You shouldn’t have a problem getting them off.
Question: Do you add it just before the beans or cooked, or during the entire cooking process. Salt should only be added at the end
Answer: It is filled with foam and very comfortable

User questions & answers

Question: Are the bags plastic free
Answer: Yes it is tested TWICE for mold. First our green importers test and reject any coffee shipments if they had any mold, so it would never reach us. Then after we receive coffee from our green importers we also inspect for mold. Both our green importers and our business are certified FSMA facilities. (Food Safety Modernization Act) and our food safety processes are inspected regularly by the FDA.
Question: what is the Exp date of the coffee
Answer: Of course u can make this an expresso. All depends on how fine your coffee grinder can make it. It can make delicious expresso or any type of grind u prefer.
Question: Is this a 5lb bag or a 2lb bag - description header says 5lb
Answer: No it is not. They have 2 lbs decaf. I bought the coffee which is great and wonderful aroma chocolate & cofee infused very nice. Worth the money
Question: These beans are very oily. I read oily beans will ruin coffee grinders. Worried, just bought a new grinder. Is this true
Answer: Hi Grammy, thanks for reaching out. Yes, because it's 100% Arabica, grown between 4,000 - 5,000 feet, and roasted dark, it's as low in acidity as possible. A lot of people don't realize this, but the darker the coffee, the less acidity it actually has. The most important factor however, is the type of bean. Arabica coffee is much less acidic (and better tasting) than Robusta. Hope this helps, thanks so much for your interest in our coffee.

Cafe Cubano Roast– Our Signature Blend

Cafe Cubano Roast is our signature blend. Made with premium, specialty grade coffee, we use our signature Latin style slow-roasting process to provide a distinctly bold cup, with a sweet flavor, and smooth finish. As a child in Nicaragua, Martin Mayorga spent time at cigar factories with his father interacting with Cuban cigar makers who had fled Castro's government. He recalled the men playing dominos, talking about their plight upon leaving their home country, and drinking a distinctly dark and syrupy coffee. Later on when the Mayorga family moved to the U.S., Martin was able to appreciate first hand this rich coffee while spending time with Cuban immigrants in Miami.

The Perfect Cafe Cubano Roast Preparation:

Machine Espresso:

1:2.5 ratio | Grind Size: Espresso, Very Fine | Coffee Dose: 14g or 4 tbsp | Water Dose: 45ml or 1.5oz

Stove Top Espresso:

1:16 ratio | Grind Size: Fine | Coffee Dose: 22g or 6 tbsp | Water Dose: 350g or 12oz

Drip Coffee Maker:

1:21 ratio | Grind Size: Medium | Coffee Dose: 11g or 2.5 Tbsp | Water Dose: 240ml water or 8oz

Pour Over:

1:17 ratio | Grind Size: Medium Fine | Coffee Dose: 14g or 4 tbsp | Water Dose: 240ml or 8oz

Sourcing Principles

We build direct, long-term relationships with small farmers and cooperatives that focus on organic, shade-grown, high-quality, specialty coffees.

Our efficient, forward-thinking direct supply chain allows us to support our farmers via access to better financing, cost management, and crop diversification. This ensures you’re getting flavorful, smooth coffee, while paying what is fair to you. It also ensures that farmers are treated equitably and are paid fairly, rewarding them for their hard work.

Our Purpose

We don’t just source and sell artisanal organic products. We exist and operate with the purpose of eliminating systemic poverty in Latin America through the responsible trade of artisanal organic foods.

We have dedicated our lives to creating a sustainable business model that puts farmers first as we believe that healthy farming communities will produce better quality products that ultimately will benefit our valued customers.

Roasting

In a world of mass automation, we roast all of our coffees manually, batch by batch, using our senses and math to guide us in craft roasting great quality coffee.

We roast on batch roasters at our facilities in Rockville, MD and Miami, FL, both of which are FDA inspected and SQF certified. We focus on roasting using our signature Latin, slow-roasting process that provides our customers the smoothest, most flavorful coffees--always roasting fresh every day.

Our Origins

Mayorga was founded over 23 years ago by Martin Mayorga with the purpose of supporting small producers in Latin America, where he was born and raised.

The company has grown tremendously based on its model of equality, efficiency, and quality. The success of the brand has fueled the company's reach to work with high-quality, organic, specialty grade coffees representing over 3,500 small producers throughout Latin America.
