14 best vietnamese coffees
Vietnamese coffee is renowned for its unique and rich flavors, and it has a distinct preparation method that sets it apart from other coffee cultures. Here's what you should know about Vietnamese coffee:
Coffee Varieties: The most commonly used coffee beans in Vietnamese coffee are Robusta beans, which are known for their bold, strong flavor and high caffeine content. Arabica beans are also used but less frequently.
Preparation: Vietnamese coffee is typically prepared using a drip method, and it is often referred to as "cà phê phin." A metal drip filter called a "phin" is used to make the coffee. The coffee grounds are placed in the phin, hot water is poured over them, and the coffee slowly drips into a glass below. This slow-drip method allows for a concentrated and flavorful brew.
Sweetened Condensed Milk: One of the defining characteristics of Vietnamese coffee is the use of sweetened condensed milk. It is added to the brewed coffee, and the sweetness can be adjusted to taste. This combination creates a creamy and sweet coffee drink that balances the strong coffee flavors.
Iced Coffee: Vietnamese iced coffee, known as "cà phê đá," is a popular variation. After brewing, the coffee is poured over ice cubes, making it a refreshing and cold beverage, especially popular in Vietnam's hot climate.
Egg Coffee: Another unique Vietnamese coffee variant is "cà phê trứng," or egg coffee. It's a rich and indulgent coffee made by whipping egg yolks with condensed milk and coffee, resulting in a creamy and dessert-like drink.
Robust Flavor: Vietnamese coffee is known for its robust and intense flavor profile. It often has notes of chocolate, nuts, and a bold coffee taste due to the use of Robusta beans and the slow drip brewing method.
Cultural Significance: Coffee culture is deeply ingrained in Vietnamese society. Coffee shops, both traditional and modern, are prevalent throughout the country, and coffee drinking is often a social activity. Vietnamese people are known for their leisurely approach to coffee, spending hours chatting and savoring their cups.
Coffee Variations: In addition to the traditional preparations, you can find various coffee variations in Vietnam, including coconut coffee, yogurt coffee, and more, each offering a unique twist on the classic brew.
Vietnamese coffee has gained popularity worldwide for its distinctive flavors and preparation methods. Whether you prefer it hot or iced, sweetened or black, it's an experience worth trying if you're a coffee enthusiast.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this coffee contain any gluten or is it made where wheat items are processed? I am very sensitive, thanks for any info! Sounds delicious |
Answer: | I don't see any gluten information. You can go to the Trung Nguyen website and ask via contact us link. Nothing on the can and nothing on the website. And yes, I quite enjoy it as cold brew. My friends enjoy it made traditionally and french press. |
Question: | Why is the coffee so high in calories? Usually any black coffee is not more than 5 calories |
Answer: | I have received various answers. for instance, for the G7 3 in 1 which has cream & sugar, some sites refer to 243 Cals & others refer to 68 - 70 cals per sachet (serving). I believe that the sites that reflect astromocal cals for trung Nguyen are not properly calculating based on serving size. I do not believe that the can reflects by serving size eather (not correctly anyway). If the 3 in 1 which has cream & sugar is 68 - 72 cals per sachet (1 serving) I cannot imagine that the Trung Nguyen black coffee per serving would be higher as it does not make any sense. |
Question: | Is this coffee grounded? And is the filter provided a phin filter |
Answer: | This item including the Vietnamese style filter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07769SFWY/ref=twister_B07519T7NM?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 |
Question: | Is this whole bean or ground coffee |
Answer: | The coffee is already ground. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | G7 is made in three different factories in Vietnam. The first pilot plant was designed by Italian engineers at a cost of $10 million around 15 years ago, and was the first process in the world to make instant coffee from ground, powdered green, unroasted beans. As a result, the coffee is never brewed and freeze-dried or concentrated... it has never touched water. This is what gives it its superior, fresher taste. Years later, as demand grew, the company built two additional plants in different locations. |
Question: | Caffeine mg |
Answer: | Approximately 70 mg per serving (which is 6 oz). An average cup of coffee at Dunkin or Starbucks has 80-120 mg per 6 ounces, depending on bean varieties etc. Generally, instant coffees run a little lower than brewed coffees. |
Question: | How does this compare to similar Korean brands like Maxim sticks |
Answer: | Hi, actually, I use and like both the Korean sticks, (tabang coffee) and the Vietnamese G7. The G7 is more robust and flavorful (in my opinion) and stronger. It also has a scent of vanilla, which is not overwhelming but there. My wife is Korean. She does not like the taste or smell of G7. She says it is too strong. My advice, buy a small package to try. I use 2 sachets in a 10 oz. cup. Enjoy! |
Question: | Is it as good as the one in small package 22 sachets |
Answer: | Yes, the product is the same in all packages, there is only one 3-in-1 mix. |

A WAY OF LIFE
Coffee in Vietnam is full-city roasted. It has its roots in the French colonial occupation of Vietnam and has evolved into an entirely different beast. In the local cafes of Vietnam, there are only two drinks you need to know – cà phê sữa đá (iced coffee with milk) or cà phê đen đá (iced coffee, black).
ONE OF THE WORLD'S TOP COFFEE EXPORTERS
Vietnam is the world’s second-largest exporter of coffee. The coffee industry in Vietnam now employs about 2-3 million people.
HAVE IT ICED OR HOT
Coffee is brewed differently in Vietnam. It is a mix between the French press and pour-over method that produces great coffee. Trung Nguyen uses a unique method to bring the same great ground coffee flavor to it's instant coffee mixes.

User questions & answers
Question: | I was wondering what is the standard size of the Vietnamese coffee makers sold at Asian super markets? Not sure which size of this product to order |
Answer: | Apparently standard size is 8 oz, which I ordered. I got two. I may have gotten the larger size if I had realized, though. It's very caffeinated, however, so just as well. |
Question: | does using bustelo espresso grind work well with this type filter |
Answer: | Hello, I apologize for the late reply- I only just saw this question. I have not personally uses bustelo espresso but the filter works best with a medium to coarse grind. Kind regards, Fitzy Shop. |
Question: | Does the black rubber handles on the side leak black color when rubbed on/soak? i merely held it for a little and my fingers were black stained. bad |
Answer: | I have never had this happen. Mine are small press on black covers that allow you to move it without being burned when it is full of hot water. Mine seem like normal plastic with no stains or leakage. |
Question: | How is this different from a Pour Over coffee maker |
Answer: | Almost all coffee makers work by water being poured over ground coffee. An exception, the French press, works by the ground coffee being pushed down, pressed, through the water. The main difference w/a Vietnamese coffe maker is that the ground coffee is placed between two "filters", or perforated disks, one below and one above, before the water is poured over the top filter disk and allowed to percolate through it, then the coffee, then the bottom disk. Before brewing you can compact the ground coffee by pushing down on the top filter. The result is that percolating time can be made longer, and you end up with a stronger cup of coffee. Which, if you make it into iced coffee, works great because the melting ice cubes serve to dilute the strong coffee, into an iced coffee of perfect strength. strength. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Package says 4tbs of powder to 1 cup of boiling water is this correct? Seems very strong |
Answer: | Yes, it's correct. If you want to make iced coffee you will need a very strong coffee. The color of this coffee will be very dark. That's the way it is. This is a tea leaf kind so it needs to be steep. If you like your coffee not as strong you definitely adjust the proportion to your taste. |
Question: | Is this 3 packages or |
Answer: | This is a 3 pack with 48 ounces total. |
Question: | Is this powder mix instant coffee that dissolves in hot water or will I need to buy a strainer for the powder |
Answer: | It is not instant coffee. You will need to buy a fine mesh (cloth) strainer. The suggested Thai way to make coffee is to put the coffee in a cloth mesh strainer, boil the water, take the water off the heat, then put strainer with the coffee in the water (don't let the coffee spill out...) and let the whole thing sit for 6 to 8 minutes. Take the strainer (coffee) out and your coffee is ready to serve, just add evaporated milk to taste. |

Product description
Our signature custom-roasted blend of robusta, peaberry, arabica and soybean, comes to the US direct from our family’s coffee production facility in Saigon. This coffee comes pre-ground in a 12oz bag. Our Saigon Phin Daklak blend is specially formulated with traditional methods for Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Our coffee is proudly served at Quan Hapa and Pho Lang Thang restaurants in Cincinnati, OH.
Recommended brewing method: Phin
Other brewing methods:
French Press
This method can be used to serve larger quantities. This result is slightly less rich and bold compared to the phin, and more coffee grounds may be left in your cup.
Pour Over
This method removes the coffee oils, leaving a cleaner coffee with less body.
Coffee Maker
This method makes a decent hot cup of coffee. We don't recommend this method for iced coffee.
Ingredients: robusta, peaberry, arabica and soybean, artificial flavors For a whole bean 100% coffee experience, try our sister brand's Saigon Espresso.

User questions & answers
Question: | why no whole bean |
Answer: | They use a blend of Robusta, Arabica, Peaberry, and Soybeans. Arabica beans give the coffee a very pleasant aroma, and the other beans contribute to the boldness, and mouthfeel of our coffee. To get an even blend of these beans in one cup, they preground their Saigon Phin Daklak blend. It’s one of the best Vietnamese coffees I’ve had in the US. |
Question: | How can I use it in a French Press, when only coarse ground coffee will work without damaging key parts of the press |
Answer: | From our experience, you'll get some coffee grounds left in your cup. However, we haven't noticed any damages to any of our french presses. If you are concerned about damaging your french press, we suggest brewing it in a phin. |
Question: | What is the caffeine dosage (in mg, please) per serving |
Answer: | Their website has a great recipe: https://www.langthangcoffee.com/how-to-brew |
Question: | Does this have robusta beans |
Answer: | I like this coffee. It is smooth and not bitter. |

Then you need to...
FROM ITS FAMOUS ORIGIN
We grew coffee plants for at least 8 years in the Central Highlands of Vietnam — the region famous for its intense coffee beans with high caffeine content.
A cup of strong dark Robarica coffee (or two) is all you need to get a boost in the morning or feel energized throughout the day.
100% PURE
We harvested beans carefully by hand, roasted and ground them to perfection with no artificial flavors or additives — just the way it's meant to be: 100% pure coffee.
You have peace of mind. Your body has the natural fuel that it deserves.
100% VIETNAMESE
We then blended two types of Vietnamese premium beans: Arabica and Robusta.
This creates a balance between sourness and bitterness, with irresistible aromas of dark chocolate, fruits and herbs — leaving a sweet, smooth, long-lasting taste after each sip.
TO YOU
Finally, we sealed the coffee freshness in an air-tight bag, protected it from moisture, pressure and light with a layer of aluminum and one-way degassing valve, and proudly present it to you.
You can enjoy it yourself or impress someone with this beautiful thoughtful gift.
A Special Someone
Enjoy Robarica coffee speedy in an espresso machine.
Me Time
Take time with a traditional Vietnamese coffee filter (phin) as a slow drip coffee.
With Friends
Drink it black, with sugar or sweetened condensed milk — hot off the filter or fresh cold delicious as the world-famous Vietnamese iced coffee.
