12 best italian espressos
Italian espresso is a type of coffee beverage known for its strong and concentrated flavor. It's a staple of Italian coffee culture and has become popular worldwide. Here's what you should know about Italian espresso:
Preparation: Italian espresso is made by forcing hot water through finely-ground coffee beans. The process involves a specific brewing method that uses high pressure and a short extraction time, typically about 25-30 seconds. The result is a concentrated shot of coffee with a layer of crema on top.
Coffee Beans: High-quality espresso starts with good coffee beans. Italians often use blends of Arabica and Robusta coffee beans. Arabica beans provide a smoother and sweeter flavor, while Robusta beans contribute to a thicker crema and a more robust taste.
Grind: The coffee beans for espresso are ground to a fine consistency, similar to table salt. The grind size is crucial in achieving the right extraction during the brewing process.
Espresso Machine: A key element in making Italian espresso is the espresso machine. These machines are designed to generate the necessary pressure to extract the coffee properly.Traditional espresso machines have a manual lever, while modern ones are often automatic or semi-automatic.
Crema: A hallmark of a well-made espresso is the crema, a creamy layer that forms on top of the shot. It is a combination of oils, coffee compounds, and air and adds both flavor and aroma to the coffee.
Serving Size: A standard Italian espresso shot is about 1 ounce (30 ml) and is typically served in a small demitasse cup. It's meant to be consumed quickly, often standing at a café counter.
Variations: Italians have created several variations of espresso-based drinks, including cappuccino (espresso with steamed milk and milk foam), macchiato (espresso "stained" with a small amount of milk or foam), and latte (espresso with a larger amount of steamed milk).
Espresso Culture: In Italy, espresso is more than just a coffee; it's a cultural experience. Cafés, or "caffè," are a common gathering place for people to socialize, enjoy a quick coffee, and chat with friends or colleagues.
Quality Standards: Italy has strict quality standards for espresso. The Italian Espresso National Institute (Istituto Nazionale Espresso Italiano, or INEI) certifies coffee producers and ensures that they meet the quality criteria for Italian espresso.
Italian espresso is celebrated for its rich flavor, intensity, and the artistry involved in its preparation. It has become an integral part of global coffee culture, with espresso machines and espresso-based drinks found in coffee shops and homes around the world.

User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone else missing a lid |
Answer: | Yep - hope it was a one time error - first time I've bought illy from Amazon - is no lid a clever new cost saving trick?...:) |
Question: | Hi can this work with refillable k-cups |
Answer: | I'm not sure, but I suspect that it would not work particularly well Espresso ground coffee is designed to be used in a stovetop espresso maker (which can be purchased quite cheaply). I think that refillable k-cups would not contain enough ground coffee, and the result would be more in line with filtered American coffee. |
Question: | can I make this coffee with a french press |
Answer: | Not coarse enough for a french press, we can grind you coffee or espresso beans matching your french press italianbeandelight com 800 746 6174 |
Question: | Do all your cans come without lids. My son bought this for me and I want to order more but there was no lid so I hesitate ordering from you again |
Answer: | Mine came without a lid. I started a return because of this and the company sent me a new can of coffee with a lid. Good customer service although weird that they are missing lids. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this good using French press |
Answer: | Should be fine if you grind your beans for French press. I used it in espresso drinks. Good taste |
Question: | What's the percentage mix of beans, arabica vs robusta? i'm curious because i find this particular espresso to be very strong (high caffeine content |
Answer: | There is no indication on the package as to percentages of the beans. The product makes an excellent cup of espresso and that is all I care about. |
Question: | Can you provide blend origin information, percentages, and flavor profiles of the three blends |
Answer: | All info is on product sales page. I found the Espresso weak and unpleasant. |
Question: | If i buy direct from your website i pay 23.00 shipping and if i buy through amazon shipping is free?? why |
Answer: | Hello and thank you for checking out our site. All of our products ship free over $20 as it states at the top of the page. But I see the reason for confusion, if you select 1 bag from the drop down, it shows +23.00. Our site registers the sale as $0.00 until you make a selection, then adds the value to whatever is in your cart, in this case nothing. Sorry for the confusion, feel free to order from wherever you feel comfortable, rest assured, shipping is free! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the “espresso grind” the same as “fine grind”? Will be using in a Nespresso |
Answer: | I bought the whole bean Caffe Contempo & ground them myself. I use my own K-type reusable pods with semi-fine grind & coarse grind for my French press. I know nothing about Nepresso. Wishing you the best. |
Question: | Is this 100% Arabica |
Answer: | No it’s not 100% Arabica beans, it’s mostly Arabica but there are Robusta beans in the mix. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the container recyclable |
Answer: | Thank you for your question. The container is recyclable. You may be able to recycle them as part of your town, or city recycling program. If you have any other questions, please call our Customer Care representatives at 877 455-9347 and they will be more than happy to assist you. |
Question: | How long does this coffee stay fresh in the can? I am the only coffee drinker, probably 1-2 espresso cups in a day |
Answer: | The can is airtight, so I would guess quite some time, we go through it pretty quickly but freshness has never been a problem. |
Question: | How many teaspoons (or grams) of this coffee do you use in the moka pot per 2 oz espresso cup? i have the bialetti 3 cup moka pot |
Answer: | I have the 6 cup moka pot and use about 6 slightly heaping teaspoons of the illy coffee. I would imagine that yours would require about 1/2 that - about 3 heaping teaspoons. I will say that I have been recently using LaVazza espresso in my moka and I find it to have a slightly stronger flavor, but is equally as smooth as the illy moka roast - and it is about $5 USD per can. |
Question: | What's the difference between this product and the regular Illy? Is it just relatively coarse? Same bean otherwise |
Answer: | Don't know about "regular" illy but this Moka ground coffee is finely ground and specifically for top-of-stove Moka pot where the boiling water pushes up through the finely-ground coffee and into the upper chamber. The can even has a picture of the Moka stove top pot on front of can. I think illy also makes an even finer grind specifically for expresso machines. I can really just speak to my experience with the Moka product. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone tried using this coffee for cold brew |
Answer: | I haven't yet - not quite warm enough now where I am to make the effort - but can't imagine why it wouldn't be terrific |
Question: | Can this be used in a Keurig |
Answer: | I have used espresso w the Keurig special pods with mixed success. Sometimes the grind is so fine it causes issues, yet other times it worked great. We use it as it is intended, in our bialetti. But my dad has a Kuerig and I keep espresso there and use it regulary. |
Question: | Is this a 3 pack |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Is this naturally decaffeinated |
Answer: | Don't be confused! Caffeinated is in the Red, White, and Green can. Decaffeinated is in the Green can! |
