Answer:	I think Marantz is concentrating on delivering the absolutely highest fidelity sound reproduction for the 2 channel audiophile market. I have the PM10 amplifier as well. Honestly, the soundstage created by pairing the two together is absolutely amazing. Several years ago, I invested in a multichannel setup (sony's multichannel flagship XA9000es, etc.). The Marantz 2 channel setup is amazing.

Question:	Is this the oppo 103 region free? And does it play dvd-a disc
Answer:	From Oppo Support: "Universal means that the player will support all standard media formats, can output in PAL and NTSC and do PALNTSC conversions, and has a power supply that can be used in any region of the world. What the player is not is Universal Disc Region. Licensing requires that we lock the player to DVD Region 1 and Blu-ray Region A. Any region free playback will require hardware modifications which we do not support." It could be more clearly stated on their website.
Question:	Does this player have the Amazon app
Answer:	I got mine in May, have the latest firmware on it, and there is no amazon app - that's about the only thing I have that's missing. Now that said, makes me wonder what would happen if someone plugged a fire stick into one of the HDMI inputs??
Question:	Knowing that the answer must by its nature be subjective, would an audiophile be content with the audio performance of the BDP
Answer:	OK, here's the deal. Due to licensing, SACD and DVD-Audio disc can not be output in digital format by the BDP-103. All of that means that the digital decoding and analog conversion for SACDs and DVD-As must be done using the BDP-103's built-in DACs (digital to analog conversion chips). To listen to these types of audio only discs you will need multi-channel RCA cables to connect the multi-channel analog signal from the BDP-103 to your multi-channel receiver or pre-amp (or stereo cables to listen in stereo only). Caveat: I'm not certain that the digital DVD-A or SACD signal isn't available through the HDMI connection, maybe it is, I just don't know at this time. I'll check it out and revise my comments as needed. All that said, the supposed issue with the BDP-103 is the quality of the DAC chips in the BDP-103. According to several technical reviews I've read, the Oppo BDP-103 DACs are of above-average audio quality, but not might not be acceptable to some so-called golden eared 'audiophiles' due mostly to the snob factor whereas the DACs in the BDP-105 are some of the very best (expensive) available anywhere. In my opinion, the differences can only be found using very expensive test equipment but can not be heard by humans.If you are listening to multi-channel DVD or Blu-ray movies or music discs, the digital audio bitstream is output through RCA and Toslink digital jacks (as well as the HDMI ports) so you can use the DACs in your receiver or pre-amp if you feel they are of better quality than the DACS in the Oppo. I have a comprehensive A/V system with well over $20k invested in electronics and speakers and I can not hear the difference between the DACs in my BDP-103 and the DACs in my top of the line Marantz AV pre-amp/processor, so .... it probably depends on your ego whether you want to drop the extra $1,000 for the 105 versus the 103. Both units have the outstanding industry leading video processor. Note: both of these units are out of production as of the date of my comment, but may still be available in the distribution and retail chain. The replacement models are the BDP-203 and BDP-205.
Question:	Does the OPPO BDP-103 really play regular dvds and cds without any problems
Answer:	Flawlessly. Most regular DVDs are upgraded to 1080p by the phenomenal processor. I have both regular dvds and bluerays of the same movie, and the major difference from blu-rays is in the audio. This replaced my Sony ES series Blu-ray that was very fussy about what it would play (no scratches or copies, please). Never had a disk fail in this machine that wasn't hopelessly damaged.After I bought this machine, I retired a Proceed CD player ($1500) that I've had for 15 years, because nothing sounded as good.The Oppo does.This is only my experience, that's all I can provide.
