| Answer: | I, too, am concerned about buying the correct power supply as a replacement for my CPC 1100 telescope (the wires are all twisted up and worn out from the way I've been wrapping the cord up to stow it away at the end of each observing session). However, the Celestron AC power adapter that came with my telescope has an output of 2.5 A, and I have never had any issues with lack of power while slewing. So I don't think there's anything to fear from the 2.5 A of this #18778 AC power adapter. The #18780 (5-amp) adapter is for the beefier (higher payload capacity) CGE Pro and CGEM mounts. That kind of amperage is not required for CPC and Advanced VX mounts. If you're exceeding the weight capacity of these systems by piggy-backing tons of camera gear and hefty optical tube assemblies onto the CPC and AVX mounts, then throwing more power at the drive motors is unsafe and it will not prevent damage to the gears. The safest rule of thumb is to beef up your mount, not your power supply! |

| Answer: | The photo is wrong. I think they just used a generic photo and didn't think to blur out the polarity as well as the output voltage and current. The polarity of the adapter is actually "negative polarity". The output voltage and current is listed as 8V - 10V; 1A - 2A. This is a pretty big range, and I think it is causing the adapter to work for some people and not work for others. Mine works with my PT-1090. |

| Answer: | It is masked out so they can use the same genaric photo for all of their products that look the same and just have different outputs. They should have masked out the tip polarity also because the one in the photo is not the same as the one you get. The output for this one is 8V-10V, 1A-2A. This is a pretty wide range, but I guess that is what you get for the money. The tip polarity is (+) on the outside and (-) on the inside. This is commonly called a "negative polarity" plug. |
