User questions & answers
Question: | Is the speaker clear and loud enough? How much time is required to fully charge this |
Answer: | I find it clear enough with no problem for voice recordings (kept at bedside, so I whisper often and no problem hearing or making out the words). I plug in via usb to computer and it takes a hour or two, not entirely sure how long. I've also used a cell phone plug and it seems a bit faster. (Just a note that all the on screen commands on mine are not in English, but Japanese characters and no way to change that I've found - and there are very many command options, of which I only use erase which I laboriously figured out). |
Question: | can you store and listen to music like a mp3 player |
Answer: | Technically, yes. Plug it into your computer, copy over your music files and listen on the built-in speaker or headphones. However, while the speaker is certainly good quality for voice, it's really not meant for music. Nor is the interface good for selecting songs. It has none of the functionality of a dedicated music player (playlists, albums, genres, etc). So, while it is technically possible, I would not recommend it as a music player. I love it as a voice recorder and use it all the time. |
Question: | Is this English menu version |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Is there an ability to record during a charging process?(mainly I want to know will it work with power bank or no |
Answer: | Hi Vardan: This is a great question! I had never thought of that before! So, I looked it up in the user manual from Sony's website, and there did not seem to be any reference to it. So ... I tried it myself! And, sure enough, it works! I had it plugged in via the USB cable and verified it was charging, and then pressed the record button, and it recorded. So, the answer to your question is YES! And thanks for asking it ... I had never even thought about this before, and it does open up some new possibilities, because you can record for a long time, basically until the memory is filled, and it will keep going until that point. I hope this helps! This is a fantastic (and unusual) recorder, so make sure you consider it before you make a decision.-- Ray |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do you have to install the Sound Organizer software to access the audio or will the recorder show up as a drive to access audio directly |
Answer: | The recorder will show up as a drive when connected to a USB port. You don't have to have Sound Organizer but it's a pretty handy piece of software. Since you can set your recordings to MP3 or WAV you can avoid the software and load the recordings directly into your player software. Sound Organizer lets you edit your sound files (divide, merge, etc.) and add metadata to them (notes about the files). |
Question: | Does this come with it's own memory card |
Answer: | 4 GB of available internal flash memory provides 1,073 hours. In addition, it has Memory Card Expansion Slot (microSD/M2) so you can add memory. I use a 8GB card in mine. You have to set the memory that you use so it doesn't automatically utilize all of the memory. In other words, you use the menu to say use "Built-in Memory" or "Memory Card" and then all of your recordings (playing and recording) will be on that selection. |
Question: | How much NH-AAA-B2KN/NH-AAA-B2EN Rechargeable batteries cost |
Answer: | The Duracell alkaline battery - AAA works well and lasts a long time. I use mine to write songs and write as many as 21 songs in a day. It lasts about 3 months with this usage. The batteries are easy to find and sometimes are on sale. |
Question: | is the recorder voice operated |
Answer: | YES it CAN BE voice operated - it's sort of a hidden feature - If you go into the MENU function, you'll see an option called VOR which is Voice Operated Recording. I just found this in the online manual - instructions are found at http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=ICDPX333&template_id=1®ion_id=1&tab=manuals#/manualsTab |

User questions & answers
Question: | mac compatible |
Answer: | I do not have a Mac but most computers have audio capabilities and connections, so I do not see why a Mac would not be compatible. Most computers have basic sound software also. |
Question: | Should I have bought the Olympus VN-702 PC instead of this |
Answer: | I'm not sure why you think the Sony ICD-PX312 recorder is limited to just a 2 GB memory card. It can accept up to a 32 GB SanDisk card. In my "Operating Instructions" guide that came with the Sony ICD-PX312, the info on the various memory cards the recorder can support are on page 40. Personally, I only use 2 GB and mostly 4 GB micro cards, as they can hold up to about 22 hours or 45 hours of recordings, respectively. That's a LOT of conversation! I have been extremely pleased with this recorder and the high quality of the recordings. I've used many recorders, from a variety of manufacturers, previous to this one and none compare in functionality and quality. Just be sure to always have a couple spare AAA batteries on hand. Due to the long recording capabilities, you will need to replace the batteries somewhat regularly. |
Question: | How to add folders in software |
Answer: | How to add folders on tape recorder |
Question: | What is the maximum size SD card that this device can support |
Answer: | Memory Stick Micro up to 16GB. MicroSD (FAT16) card smaller than 2 GB and a microSDHC (FAT32) card from 4GB to 32 GB are supported. The following cards have been tested for MicroSD/microSDHC. Sony 2GB - 8GB , Toshiba 2GB - 16GB, Panasonic 2GB - 16 GB , and SanDisk 2GB - 32GB. |

Get clearer voices thanks to adjustable mic settings. When recording in a single voice, you can capture a narrow field of sound from one direction with Focus mode. When in a meeting, you can use Wide-Stereo mode to open up the range and capture everyone in the room. You can further optimize audio settings by choosing one of four scene pre-sets: music, meeting, interview and dictation.
Reduce Unwanted Background Noise
Eliminate unwanted low-frequency background noises with the low cut filter. Projectors, traffic or wind will distort your recording, but you can filter those sounds out to focus on the voices. Another way to reduce background noise is Auto Voice Recording, which optimizes audio capture settings for vocal frequencies. This gives you a purer recording that isolates a person's voice.
Transcription Playback Mode
Review your recordings with Transcription Playback mode. You can easily fast-forward and rewind or create cue points in the track to save your place. With Digital Pitch Control, you can slow down the speed of playback for closer listening.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i print out a copy of my transcript |
Answer: | That depends on the software you interface with. Dragon apparently allows this. |
Question: | Does it work with windows |
Answer: | I gave it as a gift |
Question: | How well would this work for recording outside voices and sounds for Podcasts |
Answer: | If by "outside" you mean "outside" as in outdoors in the wind and weather, that will solely depend on how you mic the speaker. I use external mics when I record depositions and don't use it much outside. I assume it would work well if you use lapel mics and try to stay out of the wind as much as possible... |
Question: | The case is an original Sony |
Answer: | Mine did not come with a case. Sorry |

Question: | What comes with this product |
Answer: | Hi Lyinglam,Here are the accessories that comes with this recorder.-Stereo headphones (1)-Carrying pouch (1)-LR03 (size AAA) alkaline battery(2)-Quick Start GuideThanks,>Joffrey |
Question: | Hows the recording quality if device is kept in the pocket |
Answer: | You'll likely hear loud rustling every time you move, but it should be expected. If you leave it in your breast pocket, the quality might be muffled depending on how much room you give the mics. Leaving it in pant pockets will pick up normal/loud conversations in close proximity if you stay perfectly still on account of the magnified rustling noise. Increasing the mic. sensitivity to high will improve voice pick up, but it will also intensify the rustling sound. As a solution, you can use a lapel or external mic. for the best result. |
