9 best mhz for mobile radios
Megahertz (MHz) is a unit of measurement used to quantify frequency in the electromagnetic spectrum. Specifically, it represents one million cycles per second. In the context of mobile radios and two-way communication devices, MHz is a crucial parameter.
Here's what you should know about MHz for mobile radios:
Frequency Range: Mobile radios often operate within a specific range of frequencies, typically in the UHF (Ultra High Frequency) or VHF (Very High Frequency) bands. These frequencies are measured in MHz.
UHF vs. VHF: UHF frequencies range from 400 MHz to 512 MHz, while VHF frequencies range from 136 MHz to 174 MHz. The choice between UHF and VHF depends on factors such as terrain, obstructions, and the specific application.
Penetration and Range: UHF signals are generally better at penetrating obstacles like buildings and foliage, making them suitable for urban environments. VHF signals, on the other hand, have a longer range in open areas, making them suitable for rural or outdoor settings.
Interference and Crowded Channels: In densely populated areas or places with many electronic devices, UHF radios might experience less interference compared to VHF radios.
License Requirements: Depending on your location and the specific frequencies you intend to use, you may need to obtain a license from the relevant regulatory body. This is especially true for commercial and business applications.
Compatibility: When selecting mobile radios, it's crucial to ensure that the frequencies they operate on are compatible with the frequencies allocated for your specific region and purpose.
Channel Spacing: This refers to the separation between individual channels in the frequency band. The spacing is also measured in kHz (kilohertz), which is a smaller unit of frequency. It's important to select radios with compatible channel spacing for effective communication.
Duplex and Simplex: Mobile radios can operate in either simplex mode (where one frequency is used for both transmitting and receiving) or duplex mode (where separate frequencies are used for transmitting and receiving). The MHz range is crucial in determining which frequencies can be used for these modes.
Interference and Regulations: Understanding the frequency bands and their usage is crucial to avoid interference with other radio services and to comply with local regulations.
Remember, selecting the appropriate MHz range for your mobile radios depends on factors such as your location, environment, and specific communication needs. It's recommended to consult with a knowledgeable supplier or expert to ensure you choose the right equipment for your purposes.

User questions & answers
Question: | When using as a crossband repeater am I able to change the frequency/channel remotely via the HT allowing me to move from one repeater to another |
Answer: | Yes, as long as your are using a compatible Kenwood HT (not sure which Kenwood HT's are considered "compatible"). Page 85 of the owner's manual describes how to remotely control they TM-V71A. |
Question: | Is it possible to program a memory channel to have a cross band split? As in when I key the mic it transmits on UHF, but it receives on VHF |
Answer: | Search your manual but I don't think so. You can program anything that has to do with a specific station/repeater into a memory channel, however the function of the radio acting as a repeater is a radio function, not a memory "channel" option. |
Question: | Does the mic plug into the faceplate or the main unit? If main unit, how do you run the mic? Thanks |
Answer: | Microphone does not plug into the faceplate. If you use remote cable for faceplate, your mic will be running from the main unit, not the remote faceplate. |
Question: | Is the progamming cable/software included? If not how much |
Answer: | Programming cable/software is not included. We recommend the RT Systems KRS-V71 programming kit. This item is usually listed on Amazon, but currently out of stock. Should be available in 1 to 2 weeks. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with a separation kit or does it depend on the seller |
Answer: | It comes with a 6p6c based connector line ('telephone' type cord) for relocating the head unit.Ronald A. is also correct about the speaker being in the main body, so unless you mount it under your seat you will need an extension speaker. |
Question: | Can you use chirp to program |
Answer: | YES you can now use CHIRP to program the TH-9800. I just did so this week. However, the cable I got with my radio has a counterfeit chip in it so you may need to roll back the driver. I run windows 10 and had to roll it back. You'll be looking for a driver with 3.2.2 something. Not difficult but something to be aware of. After rolling back teh driver, it works like a charm (CHIRP and the cable). |
Question: | hello, please somebody cant tell me what base antenna is good for this radio |
Answer: | If you are planning to use this radio as your base radio (and not mobile), why not use a diplexer to split the antenna connector into two (or more) antenna jacks? That would allow you to have (at a minimum) one antenna for 2m/70cm and another antenna for 6m/10m. Frankly, that will allow much better performance vs. anyone's compromised 4 band antenna (and I've tried several of them). |
Question: | Is there an extended cable for the removable face plate? Thanks |
Answer: | It comes with the extension cable and removeable face kit bracket. You will need to provide your own remote speaker or Bluetooth adapter. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what model of radio do you select in chirp |
Answer: | HYS 25W mobile radio main color golden, the radio and button color is Balck. (The color of the picture for reference, Mobile Radio color in kind prevail. ) |
Question: | Does this work on repeaters, meaning does it have programmable offset and pl tone capability? also i read elsewhere antenna connect is too short |
Answer: | I would not recommend using Chirp! I bought 4 of these radios and tried using chirp until I turned one of the radios into a book end. The unit stopped responding to the software and I could no longer bring up the menu on the radio. I found the programming software on Leixen's website. The radio is the VV-898 find the version of the radio (mine were the 108) download and use this software. I have as had no issues reading and writing to both channel banks and setting other radio options. |
Question: | What color is this |
Answer: | No is not a 10meter or 6 meter. It is uhf/vhf radio |
Question: | I see people saying this can be programmed with chirp, can you specify the radio to use hys does not come up and the program disk i received is fubar |
Answer: | We can provide you software once you get the goods. And it also can suppot chirp programming. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this radio do am tx/rx in 26 to 30mhz |
Answer: | can receive AM will not Tramsmit |
Question: | I been using a th-7800 now i just got the th-9800 and my computer sees the programing dongle/cable but it wont read or write and i see its on usb |
Answer: | It depends on how your programming the radio. are you using the factory software, did you get RT systems software which I highly recommend that's worth the money, or are you using chirp? and some instances too you're going to have trouble with your windows driver it depends on what version of Windows you're using. Anyway you probably just have to change your comport settings which some of the software variations let you choose. Or look into your driver because you might have some driver issues |
Question: | Tx in usb...? or only fm |
Answer: | This radio is strictly an FM radio, at least as far as transmitting. It will transmit on the 6 meter, 10 meter, 2 meter, and 70 cm bands, but again, only in FM. It may receive AM on the aircraft bands, but I can't confirm this as both of the CMX138 audio chips in my radio have failed. |
Question: | Can anyone confirm this radio can work 6meters? I just purchased this unit, programmed with chirp and th9800d software and the radio only does |
Answer: | The radio works on 6 meters and 10 meters, FM only, and as mentioned in another answer, only the left side of the radio can be used for those bands. |

Question: | Dose this radio work on a repeater |
Answer: | programming cable is same as KT-8900/KT-8900D/KT-7900D cable . thank you ! |
Question: | Did it come with antenna and antenna cable |
Answer: | I've been using a QYT TH-9800 quad band for over a year. I have run quite a few nets at over 2 hours long and several at over 3 hours long (high usage when running a net). No problems and no complaints. You will want one with a programing cable and will probably have to "roll back" or install a different driver than your windows computer will automatically install (newer windows systems recognize counterfeit chips)....not a big deal, just go to the Miklor website and it's the same procedure as for a Baofeng cable. |
