Question:	Can even the frs work on hp
Answer:	From page 63 of the UV-82HP manual available online. "You may be tempted to use FRS, GMRS, MURS (in the USA) or PMR446 (in Europe) frequencies. Do note however that there are restrictions on these bands that make this transceiver ILLEGAL for use" Don't follow the advice, based on personal opinions of those who know little about radio communications and even less about the law.
Question:	can alert tones from fire and ems be programed into this radio
Answer:	When fire and ems transmit they automatically send out a tone before they start talking. You can look up the RadioReference dot com website (click Databases) and it will give you the frequencies for fire and ems by state. Texas gives the tones before broadcasting the audio. I would assume the rest of the country does the same. It may be the law to broadcast tones, but not sure of other states. Try it and see. I use a UV-82hp and the tones are automatic.

Answer:	Using CHIRP, you can extend the backlight time out.

Answer:	I own both. Offhand I prefer the feel of the UV-82HP. Same with the keypad The BF-F8HP feels "overstuffed". Advantage of the UV-82HP is the Dual PTT - Toggle up tor transmit on A and toggle down to transmit on B. Very nice for dual channel use Disadvantage of the UV-82HP - MUST reboot to change between channel and VFO mode. I don't do that much - but it's annoying. Menus pretty much the same. I have become the "radio man" for our Boy Scout Camporees - and the BF-F8HP has a very nice bulk charger available. One base 6 or 8 radios. For a "field deployment" one power and one base sure beats 6 to 8 bases, cables, power warts. For that more than anything I've been procuring more BF-F8HP and that's what the staff is familiar with. I sure wish there was a bulk charger base for the UV-82HP.

Frequency A or B can also be used as a scanner of channels, frequencies, CTCSS and DTS tones.

Question:	where can I get the right software and cable for this? is there a car charger I can use for this? the ones I see are for the UV-5r...? thanks
Answer:	No car charger exists yet. You could find a 12 volt to 10 volt down-converter for a car and charge it in the base charger. The base charger needs an input voltage of 10 volts. Internally it converts the voltage to 8.4 volts for the battery. You must use the base charger because there is a LI-Ion charger inside of it.The Baofeng labeled cable used for the uv5r will work. Make sure you do not get the less expensive non-branded cable. The chipset on the non branded version is counterfeit and it will cause issues. If you have the non-branded version, the radio will transmit when the cable is plugged in and an unrecognized device problem occurs on the computer.The software can be found here: http://www.miklor.com/UV82/UV82-Software.php. Additionally the daily build of CHIRP software will work.
Question:	Is there a way to direct access any channel? If I have channels programmed, I try to push 27 (for example), but it never really goes to that channel
Answer:	Not sure BUT just use the up or down arrows to go to the (programmed) channel you want. This radio is more user friendly when you PC program in the channels you want to use on a regular basis. Mine was easy to program with CHIRP.
Question:	Can this be used to communicate with regular two way radios (i.e. midland, cobra) without having a license
Answer:	No matter what you read anywhere on the internet, this radio can only legally be used to transmit on the 2 meter and 70 centimeter amateur radio bands by licensed amateur radio operators with at least a Technician-class license. It is only Part 97 certified, which means that even though it can transmit and receive on FRS, GMRS, MURS, and lots of other frequencies, such use is illegal. By "regular" two way radios (i.e. midland, cobra), I assume you mean the FRS/GMRS "bubble-pack" radios. This radio can indeed communicate with them, but not legally. It is not Part 95 certified. In fact, in order to use GMRS, you are supposed to have a license for that as well.

Answer:	Recent FCC changes in the law allows 2 watt FRS radio's and GMRS- (NO TEST) license has been changed from 5 years $70.00 to 10 years. You can apply on line for a FCC GMRS license and pay by credit card. GMRS allows you up to 50 watts of power. As ham radio operator for 52+ years (W8LM) and a certified FCC volunteer examiner, all too many hams push for people to commit to ham radio, when FRS, MURS and GMRS are perhaps a better alternative. Especially when they only want to use the radio's to contact family or while hunting or in a small business.. FRS-GMRS- MURS radio services are all short distance communications all though with certain conditions reliable communication can be had in a 20 mile radius.

Appearance:

To compare with the UV-5R, the UV-6R optimized the key design of the main panel, simplified the internal circuit, while also reduced the number of keys to avoid the wrong operation.

The UV-6R only has 16 Keyboard Buttons which has removed the Band key, independent of A/B key and EXIT key; the relevant function keys have been integrated and reorganized, which make the UV-6R more User-friendly and humanized design.

The keys of UV-6R are made of the material PTT Soft rubber instead of ABS material (UV-5R) which made the user more comfortable when pressing the keys.

Advantages of UV-6R

Speaker:

The UV-6R is with a 16 ohm high-impedance speaker. The sound is more sonorous by comparing with the other 8 ohm speaker which will help with the voice launch and transmission.

Flashlight:

The UV-6R has the straw LED lamp which is relatively higher lumens than ordinary LED in UV-5R. The high brightness straw LED lights provide a brighter and further range for alarming or illuminating than the UV-5R.

Antenna:

The UV-6R has a 15cm antenna which is 3cm longer than the UV-5R's 12cm antenna. Increasing the length enables the UV-6R to perform better in sending and receiving radio wave and signals than UV-5R. Question:	Can the two radios comical with each other without a base? How far would they work
Answer:	No they do not need a base station and can communicate with each other. Distance largely depends on environmental conditions and terrain. On GMRS/FRS frequencies, you can easily get several miles. If you're appropriately licensed with at least a general amateur radio license you can leverage the use of repeaters which can extend use much much further. I am hesitant to say how far because a lot of environmental factors are in play. It's not unheard of to hit 100 miles.

Answer:	Yes if your talking about, will they communicate with each other. I would delete all pre programmed factory channels. Program the radio(s) to the same, but legal frequencies. Factory frequencies can get you in trouble. Instructions on this on YouTube. I would also check for listing of FRS channels and program those in NO LICENSE REQUIRED. Also GMRS frequencies. GMRS requires one IMMEDIATE family member to buy a license for GMRS, it's $70.00 for ten years (get it) . It covers all the GMRS radios you own. FRS limited to 2 watts, GMRS 5 watts. GMRS license took me 20 minutes online on the FCC website. The other frequencies you can program require ham license. Free, but requires you take and pass a test. There are some frequencies that are in use by police, fire and rescue. Possibly pre programed frequencies from factory. Use those you will be in trouble for interfering. Thus i say delete factory pre programed channels. Is this radio legal for FRS and GMRS? No, even in the lower power settings, due to removable antennas. Your chances of getting in trouble for that slim to none, but possible. If you buy a programming cable, you can download program chirp for free. This program allows you easy programming, and access to more settings to program you can't program from keypad. Search YouTube on how to use chirp. Even if you don't desire a ham license, I recommend you read a study guide for technician class to be familiar with operation and programming choices on these radios. I've decided to go ahead and study and take the ham technician class test. It's comprehensive, but not too difficult. You'll also open up a lot more frequencies you can legally use. Including repeater channels on ham frequencies you can learn to use in emergencies.
