10 best cb base station radio

A CB base station radio, often referred to as a fixed mount CB radio, is a type of Citizens Band (CB) radio designed for use as a stationary communication device. These radios are typically installed in a fixed location, such as a home, office, or vehicle, and are not meant to be portable. Here are some key points about CB base station radios:

  1. Purpose: CB base station radios are primarily used for two-way communication over the Citizens Band radio frequencies. They are commonly employed for personal and recreational communication, as well as for professional purposes such as trucking and emergency services.

  2. Fixed Mount: Unlike portable CB radios that are designed for handheld or mobile use, base station radios are permanently mounted in a fixed location. This allows for a more stable and powerful radio setup.

  3. Power and Range: Base station CB radios typically have higher power output compared to portable CB radios. This increased power allows for longer communication ranges, especially when paired with external antennas that can be mounted on a roof or a tower.

  4. Features: Base station CB radios come with a range of features, including:

    • Adjustable power output to control the transmission range.
    • Large displays and easy-to-use controls.
    • External speaker and microphone jacks.
    • Channel scanning capabilities.
    • NOAA weather alerts on some models.
    • Public address (PA) system capability.
  5. Antennas: The effectiveness of a CB base station radio often depends on the quality and height of the antenna used. Many users invest in tall external antennas, as the height can significantly impact communication range.

  6. Channels: CB radios operate on 40 channels in the 27 MHz band. Base station radios can access all 40 channels, allowing for communication with other CB users within the range.

  7. Emergency Channel: Channel 9 is designated as the emergency channel on CB radios. It is used for emergency calls and assistance requests.

  8. Legal Requirements: Users of CB base station radios are typically required to obtain a license from the relevant regulatory authority in their country. The specific regulations and licensing requirements may vary by location.

  9. Applications: Base station CB radios have a variety of applications, including:

    • Providing communication in remote areas where cellular signals may be weak or unavailable.
    • Coordinating activities in recreational vehicles (RVs) and trucking.
    • Emergency communication during natural disasters or other crises.

In summary, CB base station radios are fixed-mount devices that operate on the Citizens Band radio frequencies. They offer reliable two-way communication over longer distances compared to portable CB radios and are commonly used for personal, recreational, and professional purposes. Proper antenna setup and compliance with legal regulations are important considerations when using these radios.

CB Ham Radio Base Amplified Dynamic Microphone, Tone Control, Modulation Control, Power CB HAM Mic, Heavy Duty Construction microphone

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work with a icom ic
Answer: Do you mean galaxy? Yes it will. But I wouldn't recommend it, it's poorly constructed, and the push button started to fail after only two weeks of light use. The RF limited CR 577 Power mic with the tone control sounds much better.
Question: What is the overall height of the microphone? Thanks in advance
Answer: It will work if you have a 4 pin mic input on your radio. It comes ready to use minus the 9volt battery. If you have a talkback feature it will be the best to set up for the feedback with a power mic.I have several mics, my favorite and suggestion is the Astatic 636L. Compliments from all with the 636L.Good luck.
Question: Will this work on a connex
Answer: This mic is 4 pin. As long as yours is 4 pin it will work fine
Question: Will delta ec1 and delta 2 work with cobra
Answer: The mic is usually wired for a 4 pin connector which will not work with the Cobra 148. It takes a 5 pin connector.

User questions & answers

Question: how long are the radials on this antenna
Answer: They’re about 3 feet each.
Question: how long are the radials on this antenna
Answer: They’re about 3 feet each.
Question: Does it have coax attached
Answer: Yes, it has a coax.
Question: Does this antenna require grounding for an attic set up
Answer: It does not require grounding. To be effective you will need to add 8 - 10 , 8 foot 6 inch ground plane radials. I used a coated copper strand wire that I had Home Depot cut the length I needed. I stripped the coating off of one end of the wire and crimped an eye hook on that end and attached it to the mounting bolt that secures the flat bar ground plane that came with the antenna. You may need to buy longer screws. Space the wires equally between the flat bars and you will have an outstanding ground plane antenna for distance. Be sure to use a single length low loss coax cable.

User questions & answers

Question: I know this might sound stupid, but I am looking to get this for my Husband (a truck driver). What do sidebands do? When would you use this? Just wondering if I should get him this one or the 880... Thanks
Answer: If your husband wants or needs a radio capable of operating on sidebands, this is NOT radio for him. You would need to get the 980 model rather than this 880 model. Normally truckers operate on AM mode rather than sideband. However a few truckers who have Sideband capable radios will use sideband when they get further apart or can't get a good signal on AM. But the majority don't use sideband.
Question: can you use this CB in the house
Answer: Yes. You will require -1) An regulated power supply that converts AC electricity to DC. The voltage you want is a constant 13.8 VDC (not 12 volts, you won't get full power) and which can supply a minimum of 5 amps under load.2) Do NOT press the microphone button until all steps have been completed.3) You will need to mount an external CB antenna at least 9' above the roof line. If you use a mast, it must be guyed every 10' above the last (highest) physical attachement to the house.4) You will need to properly ground the antenna mast to a copper clad ground rod (between 4' and 10' long depending on soil conductivity for your location dry sand: bad: 10' / wet rich soil: excellent: 4')5) You will need to properly ground the chassis of the CB to the exact same point that the mast is grounded to on the grounding rod. This is the step that most radio noobies skip. DON'T skip it.6) It is highly suggested you purchase a ground shunt (static discharge) for your coax; and yes, connect it to the same exact spot on the grounding rod.7) Try and purchase the highest quality 50-ohm coax you can afford. If you can afford Timesmicrowave LMR-400, then that would be your best bet. Try not to use coax more then a few feet longer than you need, and beyond that always allow 2 extra feet for a 'drip loop' at the bottom just before where it comes into the house.8) Wrap the PL-259 connectors with weatherproof coax tape to seal the connections from rain/snow/condensation. If you want to overkill it, then put a shrink wrap tube over the top of the tape.9) Secure the coax GENTLY but securely every 3 feet along the mast. A UV-resistant piece of flexable plastic 2" wide by 6"long wrapped around the coax and the mast (all at once) and secured with UV-resistant tie-wraps would be a good idea.10) Calibrate your 980SSB's internal SWR meter and then check you antenna system SWR to make sure it is less than 1.5:1 (mine is 1.0:1, a perfect match). If required (never use beyond 3:1), 'trim' your antenna to get a better SWR (most don't require trimming).11) Sometimes a CB antenna will require a physical ground plane at the antenna base; but most of the times in a base setup, not.12) Re-read your Uniden BC980SSB manual to make sure nothing has been missed in your setup.
Question: Hello. I am looking to buy this for my husbands 1998 Jeep cherokee XJ..Will this be good for that? And also what other parts are needed
Answer: Hello, yes this is a nice radio that would be fine in that vehicle. With this said, along with the radio you will need the following items:Cigarette lighter 2 wire power cord, magnet mount antenna. These items can be bought on Amazon or you can get them at a truck stop.I recommend Amazon because of a lower price and free shipping and the secret nature of being able to hide your purchase if it's a surprise gift.Truck spec is a cheap brand for the 2 wire power cord and for the antenna I recommend one of the following: K40, Wilson 1000 or the Wilson 3000 magnet mount antennas. Those come with the antenna wire already attached to the magnet and all he would do is run the wire through the hatch or the rear door after mounting the antenna on the roof. It's really easy to do. Just hide the wire under floor mats and beside the seat up to the dashboard to the CB.Now if you are looking for a better radio and easier to use right out of the box, I recommend Galaxy or Connex as these are rock solid and all the knobs are right there on the front of the radio unlike this modern radio with most of the adjustments in menus which made me feel like I had to relearn everything over again. I prefer direct access. This Uniden Bearcat 980 has an annoying beep sound every time you change the channel. Those two other brands of radios I mentioned are more expensive but are what the big boys in my industry use in their big rigs. You should be able to compare the features of the Bearcat 980 with those of a Galaxy or a Connex CB and go on that alone to match up what you want. I read the other two answers you got, Why did they even bother...I hope this helps and as always just ask if you need more info.
Question: I asked if it was 100% new or a refurb and you deleted the question. I am now processing a refund/return on this item. Thanks for being a legit seller
Answer: I ordered and paid for a NEW Bearcat 980SSB from gadget-town and got a refurb/used item. If you check that seller's 100% positive reviews you will find others have had the same experience, yet Amazon has crossed out those reviews and returned the seller's 100% positive rating. Take that as you will.

User questions & answers

Question: what is the actual dimesions of this radio
Answer: You don't 'sync' this product. You convert your playlist into a .m3u file and then drag and drop the .m3u and the audio you want added to the device. http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/103755.pdf If you begin on page 14 of the manual it explains it in detail. The worst part of this is that you need to have the files you want in the same folder, and moving them can be tedious if you have a large audio library. If you do some searching, there are programs that will help you do this much faster. So I wouldn't say that it "doesn't sync" so much as you have to "manually sync" by dragging and dropping.
Question: looking around for cb and ust wondering if this will pick up high band and low band the radio i have has a switch for high and low
Answer: I'm not sure, but I can describe the setup. There are two main navigation buttons - the main center button and the back button, which are also the only ones that are raised. The screen that shows the category (music, radio, settings, books, sport) also shows a navigation arrow on either side to indicate that you can hit the right and left arrows to move through the categories. The back button switches between the active screen and the category screen. Within a category, you can only navigate with the up and down arrows to choose a subcategory (artists, albums, songs) or an actual song/file to play, and you choose that by hitting the main central button. There are no onscreen indicators that you should move up and down, and if you go side to side instead you don't necessarily end up back right where you started. The central button is also the on/off switch if you hold it down for a few seconds. Worst case, randomly hitting the two main buttons generally eventually takes you wherever you want to go.So yes, it's fairly simple because there aren't a lot of choices, which means that if you get totally lost, you can just keep hitting the same couple of buttons and can eventually move around. But it can also be a little frustrating if you get caught in a category-song screen loop (if you keep hitting the same button over and over), or if you navigate right-left when you should be going up-down and end up in a different screen. The other "catch" is that the back button also functions as a lock if you hold it down a few seconds. Then a padlock appears on the screen, and then navigation is impossible (it's there to keep the song from stopping or switching if you accidentally bump the unit against anything, which is easy to do because it's a sensitive button). To unlock, you have to hit the back button, then hold it again for a few seconds. It tells you how to do so on screen ("press and hold back to unlock"), but I find it always takes me a couple of attempts to get the unlock to "take" and actually unlock it. Another issue is physical ease of use. The entire unit is SMALL. The entire unit is 2 1/4 inches tall, and the screen is 1 inch square. I can cover the entire navigation area with my thumb. So if dexterity or arthritis is an issue, the person might be better off with a larger player like the Fuze+. However, it does have the two raised buttons and the other arrows are arranged around it, so you can control it by feel more easily than on something like a full touchscreen or the Fuze+ (that is all a solid smooth surface). The text onscreen is sans serif and a thin weight, which makes it easier to read, but the size is about the same as the small text on a nutrition label on a loaf of bread, and can't be enlarged. The other issue is loading music onto it. In one sense, it's very easy. You plug it into your computer, open the folder, and click and drag music you want over to its folder. However, you can NOT make playlists. The only way to do playlists is complicated and involves reorganizing your music on your actual computer, converting it to a different format in WMP, and then loading it in, and I have never had that work right. An ipod is much easier from that aspect, since you plug it in and it automatically updates/refreshes/syncs anything you have. Podcasts take me about 15 minutes to update every week, because I have to update them in MediaMonkey, then manually transfer each new episode to the Sansa, then find them because they're mixed in with songs. If listening to podcasts is a priority, or having playlists is a priority, I would NOT get this player. But if you just want to listen to music, and want to listen to it per album, it is fine and easy to use that way.
Question: Does this come with mounting bracket
Answer: I have not tried it but 32GB should not be an issue since it was already accepted in the clip zip. Unless their firmware really cockup. Better to read the reviews if anyone is complaining about this.
Question: Properly set up what sort of range , in miles, could i expect .? in usb or lsb
Answer: The amount of memory you can add is not the most relevant answer, it would seem. After purchasing I have discovered that the device is limited to reading 2000 files on the SD card. Figuring an average of 5 Mb / song, 10 Gb is about the most I can actually utilize, unfortunately. If I had known this before buying I would have purchased a different device.
Question: What will cause this mic to make your radio not revive hook it up straight out the box and it’s like it’s staying keyed up
Answer: Yes it does. You can even turn it sideways and use it as a stand.
Question: Does this microphone 4-pin has a elbow-shaped connector
Answer: I find that wiping it down with a tiny bit of dishsoap on damp sponge does the trick.
Question: Is is metal or just chrome plated plastic
Answer: Hi. Just work for ipad air first generation
Question: Will this match my Galaxy 48T
Answer: Yes the belt clip comes off
Question: what is the warranty
Answer: Sorry I’m not sure but I do like the product
Question: Is this the international version of the R6 Pro
Answer: No second piece all one piece. I think they are showing front and back of the case
Question: On this site there are 3 different R5s and I can't tell the differences. Would someone please educate me
Answer: It is NOT come with a screen protector as the upper edge provide 3mm higher to protector the screen. Actually, the case is only fit for iPod touch 5/6th, NOT fit for an iPhone 6/6S.
Question: Does this support tidal offline listening? Thanks
Answer: It is possible that a Popsocket would stick to the case, it seems to be somewhat like a rubber type of case so that could be a concern. Sorry don't have definitive answer but the cost to find out is not too much.. :-)

User questions & answers

Question: Does the radio have a 12v plug or does it need to be wired up
Answer: And no there is no 12v plug or anything. Just has a positive and negative for wiring to your power supply of your choosing. And yes to needing to be wired up which is easier than you think.
Question: If I wanted to hook this CB up to the cigarette lighter socket, what kind of cord do I need to purchase
Answer: The CB has two wires built in so all you would need is a cigarette lighter socket adapter and wire it up. The wires are about 4' long so you should have no problems where you mount it. The wiring is very easy - that's the set up I have so I can unplug and remove the CB when I'm just driving around locally.
Question: Do i need to buy and antenna for this? Or does it come with one
Answer: It needs an antenna regardless? There is no internal one? Is it ok to leave the small antenna inside the vehicle? Like in the trunk or glove box?
Question: What is frequency output range?what is the wattage
Answer: The 520XL can also be taken to any CB shop and be "peaked and tuned" to over double the factory power. This is a very common practice that any trucker will do with his/her CB. This radio, peaked and tuned will deliver 8.5-9.0 watts with 17-18 watt peaks. This is more than twice the factory (legal) power, and adds significant range and clarity to your radio. As far as I am aware, there are no other compact radios on the market with the ability to be peaked and having the RF gain control in a compact unit is AWESOME. This radio is a gem. Buy it, peak it, love it.
