13 best magnet mount cb antennas

Magnet mount CB antennas are popular accessories for Citizens Band (CB) two-way radios used in vehicles. These antennas are designed to be mounted temporarily on the roof or trunk of a vehicle using a strong magnet base. Here are some key points about magnet mount CB antennas:

  1. Mounting: Magnet mount CB antennas typically feature a strong magnet base that adheres to the metal surface of a vehicle. This temporary mounting option makes them easy to install and remove, which is ideal for situations where you don't want a permanent antenna installation.

  2. Antenna Length: The length of the antenna is crucial for its performance. Longer antennas tend to have better range and reception compared to shorter ones. Common lengths for CB antennas range from 2 to 5 feet.

  3. Coaxial Cable: Magnet mount CB antennas come with a coaxial cable that connects the antenna to the CB radio inside the vehicle. The cable length can vary, but it's essential to ensure it's long enough to reach your CB radio comfortably.

  4. Tuning: To optimize the performance of a magnet mount CB antenna, it's essential to properly tune it. This involves adjusting the length of the antenna to match the frequency you'll be using on your CB radio. Proper tuning helps maximize signal transmission and reception.

  5. Ground Plane: The metal roof or trunk of your vehicle serves as a ground plane for the magnet mount antenna. A good ground plane helps improve the antenna's performance by enhancing its efficiency.

  6. Range: The range of a CB radio system, including the magnet mount antenna, depends on various factors, such as the terrain, atmospheric conditions, and the power output of your CB radio. Generally, a properly installed and tuned magnet mount antenna can provide communication over several miles.

  7. Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the magnet mount antenna's longevity and performance. This includes checking the coaxial cable for damage, keeping the antenna clean, and ensuring that the magnet base remains securely attached.

  8. Legal Considerations: Before using a magnet mount CB antenna, be sure to comply with local regulations regarding CB radio usage. These regulations may specify certain power limits, antenna height restrictions, and other rules.

In summary, magnet mount CB antennas are a convenient and versatile option for enhancing the performance of your CB radio while on the road. They are relatively easy to install and provide a good balance between portability and performance, making them popular among CB radio enthusiasts. Proper tuning and maintenance are essential for getting the best performance from a magnet mount CB antenna.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this a 26-28mhz aerial
Answer: Mine came with a long whip that was centered on the high end of 26 Mhz out of the box. You will need to trim the whip to get the desired frequency range. Out of the box, mine was not tuned to the CB band (26.9 - 27.4 Mhz). I had to trim about an inch or two off, roughly. To cover the 10m Amateur band (28-29 Mhz) you would have to trim a lot more off. But note that the bandwidth of this antenna will not cover the entire 10m band. I believe mine will tune from 26.9 to 27.5 Mhz while remaining below 2:1 swr.
Question: Work with uniden bearcat cb radio with sideband 980ssb? thanks
Answer: yes. i have it on mine
Question: how far is the range
Answer: I wouldn't give $5.00 for a truck load of K-30s. I bought one and cannot get the SWR low enough to use it. On channel 1 the SWR is 1.2 , on channel 20 its 2.5 and on channel 40 its 3.2. That will burn up a radio. I talked to three other people who got one and have the same problem. A radio tech told me a wilson 1000 is the best. I haven't yet got one and just stopped using my cb till I can afford another antenna.
Question: Do you have to drill a hole in truck to connect the cable from the anntena to cb or can it be run through window
Answer: No drilling necessary. The antenna has transmission line ("coax") already attached to it - I forget the exact length, it's about 15 feet...with a common CB antenna connector at the end. The connector is called a "PL-259", it's cylindrical and measures between 0.720" - 0.730" (a trifle under 3/4") at the widest point. You can easily pass this through a window, but you might want to consider feeding the coax transmission line in around a weatherseal on a tilting window or hatch. The coax is about 1/4" diameter and most hatch-style windows easily close and latch over it without damage. The base of the antenna is magnetic, and does a very good job of holding the antenna in place. I mention this because I read somewhere Ford is introducing aluminum body trucks, hopefully nowhere we need antennas. Magnetic mounts won't work on aluminum.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this hold a 102 whip
Answer: It holds my 102" wipe with the monster spring
Question: Can this mag mount hold yaesu atas 120a
Answer: I seriously doubt that ATAS-120A would work with this mount. First, the connector here is a CB mount connector and not UHF connector. Second, ATAS 120A requires direct connection to the body of the vehicle since the antenna is tuned by DC current and not AC. Unlike RF, DC cannot pass through the rubber and roof paint.
Question: What ham radio antennas will work with the this? I'm looking for 2m/70cm. Thanks
Answer: For a 2m/70cm antenna, you do not need this beefy of a mount. A 1/4 wavelength antenna is about 19 inches high. I use a Diamond MR77 mag mount that works great. If you were to use a 5/8 wavelength 2m antenna, something like a 5" mag mount would be good. This is more suited to a 7 1/2 foot HF type fiberglass whip or "maybe" one of the CB whips. I have one as a backup and like it. As of this writing, my primary HF antenna is a series of MFJ Hamtennas and a Diamond K-400 mount. Just make sure with this mount that you minimize capacitive reactance as good as possible if running HF or with an amp. I would put two mix 31 toroids in-line with about 6 turns each to make sure there is no RF on the coax if you use it for HF. For a 2m/70cm antenna, don't worry about any chokes. And also, for 2m/70cm, you do not need anywhere near the ground plane that HF requires.
Question: Does this mag mount come with rubber covers on the magnets to protect the paintwork on the car roof
Answer: Rubber covers would increase capacitive reactance...defeating any ground plane your car could offer as the other half of the antenna. The mount needs to make contact with the metal in order for the vehicle to serve as the other half of the antenna. While I'm sure it would have some effectiveness being close to the metal, it will not establish a ground properly. It does have a Mylar film on the bottom of the magnets, but moisture and scratches will get under any mag mount. Over time, any mag mount will rust around the edges where the Mylar film meets it. Some the contaminants are regular grit and grime, while some is brake dust and other components. I have this as a backup mount for vacations in other cars, etc. It would be possible to use it as a base antenna mount if 1/4 wavelength radials were fun out from the base. I use a Diamond K-400 mount as my primary mount. The mount is only part of the equation. It requires a decent antenna. My own antennas are an inexpensive answer. I use MFJ Hamtennas (fiberglass whips) for each HF band I use. They are about 7 1/2 feet high, but with a quick disconnect, it is closer to 8 feet high, plus the height of what they are mounted on. I would like a Scorpion screwdriver antenna if I had a spare $900 laying around... Any mag mount is only so strong. If mounted on the roof, I would recommend a cable to your rack in case you have a frontal collision. The mount would turn into a missile. That super grip is on thick metal in the ham radio or CB store. While it seems like a strong mount when you are trying to pull it loose from the roof of a car, it is in fact not nearly as strong.

User questions & answers

Question: How long is the coax
Answer: 16-18’
Question: Can you use this with gmrs systems
Answer: For gmrs you're going to want a genuine Nagoya UT-72. Btech has the genuine article. I swept it with a VNA and it has very low SWR through the GMRS band. I also have a Nagoya mag mount with the SMA connector - the UT-308UV and it's not as broad on UHF. Good for the 70cm ham band, but it's SWR doesn't stretch into GMRS range as well.
Question: can this be used on a DX2547 base radio
Answer: Your gonna find its a damn great antenna but most base stations have a taller antenna but paired with my Stryker 497 getting 17 miles roughly
Question: How would this work on a cobra
Answer: I run a Cobra 29 LX w/ an Astatic RD104 mic and this Stryker antenna. SWR’s are near flat across all 40, TX & RX are amazing. I definitely recommend this antenna.

User questions & answers

Question: is the magnetic mount part metal where it contacts your vehicles paint? or is there a rubber pad between the metal and the car
Answer: 12 volt.
Question: Does anyone know the frequency range on this antenna
Answer: This unit is an analog scanner.
Question: Does this come with CB coax cable
Answer: Well, yes and no.....
Question: does it come with a PL259 connector
Answer: I have the BC23A Uniden Bearcat External Speaker. First, the speaker is an amplified speaker, so it requires a 12 volt DC power source. You can plug it into a 12 volt accessory outlet in a vehicle, or I use a 12 volt regulated power converter in my house. Second, the speaker has a mini stereo plug, so I do not know how you would plug it into a phone. There is no microphone in the speaker, so you would not be able to use it like a hands free device for your phone. It is intended to be an amplified external speaker for a radio or scanner. I use it with my Portable Pro-96 Digital Trunking scanner (although I had to use a stereo to mono plug adapter) and it works great. It gives me the extra volume I need to hear the scanner outside of the room, or above the noise in a moving vehicle. I am very pleased with the speaker for my intended use.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this antenna tuneable and if so, is there an easy way to tune it, or do you have to do some snipping
Answer: The bottom magnet portion is covered in urethane (plastic), so it won't scuff your paint. I have been taking mine on and off my car dozens of times, and it leaves no mark. Magnetic holds securely. Hope this helps.
Question: i neeed this faster how do ido that
Answer: This antenna tunes the standard CB frequency range, 26.965 mhz to 27.405 mhz. You can tune it up into the 10 meter band, but as you shorten the antenna element, the bandwidth is reduced, the impedance moves away from the ideal 50 ohms, and the efficiency drops. Shortened CB antennas like this one are designed for short-range communication, (a few miles) so don't expect much range. While Wilson says it can be used on 10 meters, it's not going to work out very well for you.
Question: Will the antenna tread into a a regular antenna mount
Answer: Yes the standard 18ft or so with a PL259 connector on the end. Ready to hook up to any CB radio.
Question: will this antenna pick up weather bands
Answer: Yes, it comes with a PL259. Plug it in and away you go.

Answer: Yes, that’s what I do with the antennas is thread them into a 3/8 mount.
Question: How well foes it hold at interstate speeds
Answer: No it will not. This antenna is for Citizens Band (CB). NOAA frequencies are on VHF (2 meters). There may be other NOAA stations on other bands, but I'm uncertain of this. However I don't believe they transmit on the band that antenna is tuned for. Hope this helps!

User questions & answers

Question: Will this fit my uniden
Answer: Yes, But I would not go over 80 MPH with it, it will fly off of the car or truck, and do some damage. I had a 4 magnet mount and it worked well, but I did not speed with it....Jim
Question: is the magnet inside this antenna mag. mount considered a ground
Answer: That's not an easy answer, a Wilson 5000 and Stryker sr-a10 antenna will fit. Basically any antenna, that screws in, like the 2 I mentioned will work. Only thing is, they don't screw down flush with the tri-magnet base. There's going to be a little gap, you can either get 1 or 2 washers and close gap that way or, you can get some rubber or neoprene and make a gasket for it. Either way will work, you can even use gasket maker, and make a water tight seal. Hope that helps out
Question: is this a good antenna folks-honestly? just ordered one today
Answer: Great with speed just bulky looking
Question: Is this antenna adjustable and easy tuning and good for a uniden pro520 cb radio
Answer: No snipping! Remove the cap at the top of the antenna and you'll find a Phillips head screw. Turn the screw to adjust your SWR.

User questions & answers

Question: is it magnetic or does it have glue
Answer: The base is attached to the top of your car or truck by a strong magnet. No glue is involved. This device is designed to be easily removable and moved to another vehicle or protected from car washes.
Question: Judt got this and i get just static when mounted on my truckroof
Answer: Static is normal on CB radios, Some days are much clearer than others, mainly due to skip conditions. Try adjusting RF gain if your CB has one or use the squelch control. Both are forms that adjust to mask out noise but will reduce pickup ability on the receiving end. It is somewhat of an art form. Experiment with one or both.
Question: will this work on Uniden 800 MHz 300-Channel Base Mobile Scanner (BC355N
Answer: no, CB antenna's are tuned to 26 to 27 Mhz, You need a scanner antenna, most of which are tuned to 25 to 1300 Mhz
Question: Can I tune the Antenna
Answer: The top of the antenna is adjustable via a set screw to tune if you use an SWR meter.
