3 best used turntables
Used turntables are pre-owned record players designed for playing vinyl records. They are popular among audiophiles, music enthusiasts, and collectors who appreciate the warm and analog sound quality of vinyl records. Here's what you should know about used turntables:
Cost Savings: Purchasing a used turntable can be an economical way to enjoy vinyl records, as they are typically more affordable than new models with similar features.
Variety: The used turntable market offers a wide range of options, from vintage and classic models to more recent ones. This variety allows you to choose a turntable that suits your preferences, whether you're looking for a specific brand, design, or era.
Condition: When considering a used turntable, pay close attention to its condition. Look for signs of wear, such as scratches, dust, or cosmetic damage. Inspect the tonearm, platter, and cartridge to ensure they are in good working order.
Maintenance and Servicing: It's important to inquire about the maintenance history of the turntable. Ask the seller if any maintenance or repairs have been performed, such as cartridge replacements or belt changes. Well-maintained turntables are more likely to provide reliable performance.
Functionality: Test the turntable's functionality before purchasing it, if possible. Ensure that it spins records smoothly, the speed is accurate (33 1/3 RPM, 45 RPM, or 78 RPM, depending on the turntable), and the tonearm tracks properly without skipping or scratching the record.
Belt Drive vs. Direct Drive: Turntables can have either belt drive or direct drive mechanisms.Belt drive turntables are known for their quieter operation and lower vibration, while direct drive turntables offer more precise speed control. Consider which type aligns with your preferences.
Cartridge and Stylus: The cartridge and stylus (needle) are crucial components for sound quality. Check if the turntable comes with a cartridge and stylus or if you'll need to purchase and install them separately. High-quality cartridges can significantly impact audio performance.
Platter Material: The platter material can affect audio quality and stability. Some turntables have heavy platters made of materials like acrylic or metal, which can reduce vibration and provide better sound.
Upgradability: Consider whether the turntable allows for future upgrades and improvements. Some turntables have modular designs, allowing you to upgrade components like the tonearm or cartridge to enhance performance.
Seller Reputation: Research the reputation of the seller when buying a used turntable. Buying from reputable dealers or individuals with positive feedback and reviews can provide more confidence in your purchase.
Accessories: Check if the turntable comes with accessories like a dust cover, anti-static mat, or additional cartridges. These items can enhance your overall experience and value for money.
Remember that the quality of a used turntable can vary greatly depending on factors such as brand, model, and maintenance history. It's advisable to thoroughly inspect the turntable and test it before making a purchase to ensure it meets your expectations for sound quality and performance.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I plug this turntable into powered speakers and have sound or do I need a receiver |
Answer: | You can use it in both ways. |
Question: | I have always owned belt drive turntables. I have read that direct drive can be noisy. How is this one as far as rumble |
Answer: | My previous turntable was a very nice AR belt drive table, and I had the same concern about direct drive rumble. Not any more. The AT-LP120XUSB is dead silent. It sounds incredible. |
Question: | So, since this turntable has a built in preamp, does this mean I can use passive speakers? Or do I need powered speakers |
Answer: | No. You'll need powered speakers or you'll need to plug it into an amp to use passive speakers. "Preamp" = pre (before) amplifier. Preamps and phono amps take the very low signal from the stylus and amplify it to a level that an amplifier can use. AND (the reason record players need phono-specific preamps instead of a standard preamp) the preamp/phonoamp also decodes the RIAA format that all albums since the 1950s use, which is proprietary and needs a specific type of decoding to play the music. |
Question: | Ok,..in plain english,...can i plug this tt into external speakers? that's all i want it for. if yes,...what type of speakers |
Answer: | Yes you can... The turntable has a built-in preamp. You want to buy powered speakers. They sell tons of them now. The best I have heard were KRK powered speakers. To get a good idea of what’s available, check out the needledoctor or crutchfield websites. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use other headphones with this turntable |
Answer: | I use it & likely alot. |
Question: | Powered speakers required to listen |
Answer: | Sure...BUT I WOULD NOT DO IT. Hard to get off once resin is dried, so you are sacrificing your Frother for coffee and beverages- which is the primary purpose. |
Question: | How can I turn off the turntable built in speaker? It’s still on even with headphones |
Answer: | I don't know the size of your 2 oz. bottle but the whisk on the stirrer is 7/8 inch in diameter. |
Question: | Is the tonearm replaceable |
Answer: | Afraid not |
Question: | Anyone using for crafts, esp resin |
Answer: | The description is misleading - it is battery operated - it only takes 20-30 seconds to froth your milk or mix your protein shake using a up and down motion on you turn the frothed on. |
Question: | Does this turn OFF after using on low speed or does it cycle thru medium and high (and make a big mess ) when frothing milk for coffee |
Answer: | Yes, IF you can clean off all the resin. |

Audio-Technica AT-LP60XHP
The AT-LP60XHP turntable and headphones combination lets you enjoy your 33-1/3 and 45 RPM records with no additional equipment required. Based on the AT-LP60X fully automatic belt-drive turntable, the AT-LP60XHP adds an integrated headphone amplifier with a 3.5 mm (1/8") headphone jack and volume control on the front panel, so all you have to do is plug in the included ATH-250AV over-ear headphones (or other headphones of your choice) and start the records spinning.
Audio-Technica ATH-250AV Headphones
Of course, the turntable can also be connected to your stereo, powered speakers, computer or other components and used as a standard turntable. The detachable RCA output cable (3.5 mm male to dual RCA male) and built-in switchable phono preamp allow the turntable be connected to components with and without a dedicated phono input. Like the AT-LP60X, the AT-LP60XHP features a redesigned tonearm base and headshell to improve tracking and reduce resonance. Noise is further reduced by the inclusion of an AC adapter that moves the AC/DC conversion outside of the chassis where its impact on the signal chain is limited.
The ATH-250AV headphones are equipped with 40 mm drivers for clear mid- and low-frequency reproduction. The lightweight construction and comfortable, isolating earpads allow you to listen for as long as you like, and the 3.5 m (11.5') cable gives you plenty of flexibility.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this turntable need speakers to play the record |
Answer: | Yes. Needs an amp and speakers. |
Question: | What are the differences between this at-lp60x and the regular at-lp60? this one https://www.amazon.com/audio-technica-at-lp60-automatic-belt-drive-tu |
Answer: | Lp60x is the newer model.. there are some aesthetic changes, DC conversation happens in the plug now, the o/p is a 3.5mm aux jack with a aux to rca cable(instead od the other way around in 60) that's what I found when I was researching on it. There might be some internal changes too |
Question: | Do you needle for this product |
Answer: | The need comes with the product. I bought this as a gift for my mother. |
Question: | What does ‘fully automatic’ mean exactly |
Answer: | A fully automatic turntable will queue and play the record itself with the push of one button as well as return the tonearm on it's own once the record is finished playing. |
