User questions & answers

Question: What is the signal to noise ratio
Answer: I'm not sure what the exact ratio is, but this turntable (at least mine) is NOT silent, in terms of mechanical noise. I can hear the motor running while standing in front of it, but I cannot hear it when I am sitting on the cough approx. 9 feet away. I have an old Acoustic Research XB, which is also a belt drive, that runs DEAD silent. If it weren't for the sound of the motor running, I'd like this table a lot more.
Question: what cartridge is included
Answer: Thanks very much for your question. This table comes with a moving-magnet Denon cartridge premounted to the headshell. The stylus used in this cartridge is DSN-85. World Wide Stereo is 38 years old and a proud, authorized Denon dealer.
Question: Can the usb out be used to go to a computer for the purpose of ripping to a hard drive? thanks
Answer: Yes, the USB can be used in computer.
Question: Can you by-pass the pre-amp
Answer: You do not have to use the built in preamp, there is an on/off button on the back of the turn table. If you turn the preamp off, you can plug the turn table into the actual PHONO stage of your integrated amp or receiver. This is how I am using it.

User questions & answers

Question: will arm return at end of album
Answer: no
Question: Do I need speakers for this item
Answer: You will need speakers and an amplifier or receiver.
Question: is this fully analog or does it convert to digital
Answer: Fully analog.
Question: What are the differences between this and the LP120X
Answer: The main differences are the MDF 40WN vs plastic plinth 120x, belt drive 40WN vs direct drive 120x, and the carbon fiber upgraded tone arm of the 40WN vs a low end tone arm 120x. Also theres no mention of there being a speed monitoring system for the motor of the 120x. The 120x has a plinth mounted led and a USB output that the 40WN doesn't if that's important. To sum it all up if your aim is to listen to records casually, you dont really care about the hifi, and you have no interest in upgrading the stylus cartridge then the 120x isnt a bad choice. Yes the 120x has the VM cartridges just the same as the 40WN but the tone arm of the 120x would need to be upgraded to really benefit from the change of the cartridge. Also you run into the possible motor vibration issues of direct drive that can affect the sound vs a usually preferred belt drive which isolates the turntable from the motor vibration. My opinion is to spend the extra $ and get the better turntable, the 40WN is much better looking to my taste as well.

Question: Does this work with Sonos speakers via wireless
Answer: Not without at least a cable, as Sonos speakers are not Bluetooth. You can connect to Sonos in a couple of ways: 1) turntable -> RCA (red/white) to mini (headphone) plug cord -> Five/ play 5 2) turntable -> RCA cables -> Sonos connect/connect amp/port/amp The amplifier function depends on whether or not you are trying to 1) tie a turntable into an existing Sonos system or 2) if you want to tie into an existing Sonos system and also want if dedicated wired, non-Sonos speakers. Hope that helps.
Question: Will this be available in the uk? it is not listed on amazon uk
Answer: Dear customer, sorry to tell you that this turntable is not available in UK.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I plug this turntable into powered speakers and have sound or do I need a receiver
Answer: You can use it in both ways.
Question: I have always owned belt drive turntables. I have read that direct drive can be noisy. How is this one as far as rumble
Answer: My previous turntable was a very nice AR belt drive table, and I had the same concern about direct drive rumble. Not any more. The AT-LP120XUSB is dead silent. It sounds incredible.
Question: So, since this turntable has a built in preamp, does this mean I can use passive speakers? Or do I need powered speakers
Answer: No. You'll need powered speakers or you'll need to plug it into an amp to use passive speakers. "Preamp" = pre (before) amplifier. Preamps and phono amps take the very low signal from the stylus and amplify it to a level that an amplifier can use. AND (the reason record players need phono-specific preamps instead of a standard preamp) the preamp/phonoamp also decodes the RIAA format that all albums since the 1950s use, which is proprietary and needs a specific type of decoding to play the music.
Question: Ok,..in plain english,...can i plug this tt into external speakers? that's all i want it for. if yes,...what type of speakers
Answer: Yes you can... The turntable has a built-in preamp. You want to buy powered speakers. They sell tons of them now. The best I have heard were KRK powered speakers. To get a good idea of what’s available, check out the needledoctor or crutchfield websites.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you use this with traktor scratch pro
Answer: Thank you for your interest in our products.Yes, the AT33PTG/II is considered a "low output" cartridge since it is so called "MC cartridge."We hope this information is helpful for you.We are looking forward to hearing form you soon.Reboot Japan
Question: Does the arm automatically return
Answer: By definition, a moving-coil cartridge has a fixed construction. That is to say, no part is user-replaceable. In the case of a worn stylus, the cartridge must be re-tipped by a specialist technician. Re-tipping ranges from about $400-$800 depending on the stylus used. Remember that a diamond stylus is the single most expensive component of any cartridge (MM or MC). That's why replacements seem expensive compared to the price of a new cartridge.
Question: Can you use with traktor
Answer: No It would be easier, if you'd: Call 920)494-8999 10a-7p Chicago time M-Sa Visit our website and 'contact us' at www.hifiheaven.net skype:hifi.heaven Thanks Jim
Question: This question has probably been asked but, can this turntable be used with my vintage receiver
Answer: 45 rpm records are cut as microgrooves as are LPs, so this cartridge is perfect for them, too. With 78s there are two problems: first, the size of the stylus is too small for this kind of discs and so will run too deep in the groove, producing much more noise than inevitable; second, all MC pre-amps use RIAA filtering to correct for correct frequency response, which is perfect for LPs (33 upm) and Singles (45 rpm), but by far not so for 78s, which were recorded without or with a different treble equalizer setting than necessary for RIAA standards. Preamps to compensate for this are only avalable for MM systems like Shure, Grado, Ortofon and Stanton products, which all have replacement styli to fit 78s grooves.

User questions & answers

Question: Does it have steel needle for 78s
Answer: The center hole is just a tiny bit larger than the whole in a CD/DVD. I use an Avery applicator device which makes centering the labels a snap.
Question: Is this really best gift for lover friend
Answer: Yes it will. I've been using Avery 8944 on verbatim BR discs for over a year now and not a single issue.
Question: Does the lid close while a record is playing
Answer: Avery has downloadable templates for all their labels. You cannot do much creatively and I haven't tried. What I did and do is make my own template for the label in a desktop publishing program, Serif Page Plus. I can import just about anything into that program. You also have all the bells and whistles you could possibly want, gradients, 3 D etc. It also allows you to do artistic text as a vector object and bend the path any way I want. For labels it is much easier than Photoshop. Less of a battle.Another thing I do is find the album in Amazon, download the cover saved as a jpeg and insert it or import it into my template, size it and voila a CD label. Thanks Amazon. Chuck
Question: Does record player require phono pre-amp
Answer: The package writes; "Ink Jet" in the lower right hand corner so that's what they're intended for but I also found that they work on the Xerox laser printer at OfficeMax print centers and the print quality is far better than that of any of the ink jet printers I've used..

User questions & answers

Question: Can I load my albums into itunes
Answer: You bet --- once you digitize your albums and have them in MP3 format, you can import the into iTunes as you would any other music.
Question: Can I play a record to my computer and burn a cd, also does the software come with this unit. Thankyou
Answer: Once you've transferred the vinal to digital you can burn a cd or use it the way any digital items are used. The software is a separate FREE download. The instructions are included.
Question: Will I be able to transfer music to my iTunes library
Answer: Richard, generally, as I understand it, yes. You will be able to record your records to your PC hard drive. From there, you can convert your music files to whatever formats you prefer. For iTunes, I believe you can import them into iTunes and iTunes will automatically convert them to iTunes format as you import them. If there is a more direct method to record them to iTunes, I'm not aware of it. Hope this helps! Skip
Question: My husband just received this turntable as a Christmas gift. Any recommendations for a receiver that is compatible? Our old receiver is broken
Answer: Basically any receiver/amp will work with this unit as long as the inputs are RCA jacks and that's pretty much all of them. Here's how it breaks down. All turntables require a pre-amp before the signal goes to the main amplifier. Most modern receivers do not have a dedicated slot for turntables any longer. So most turntables include the pre-amp built in. The switch for the pre-amp is on the back of the Audio Technica.* So if your receiver has a setting for "Phonograph", "Phono" or "Turntable" you're good to go. Just switch the pre-amp Off on the back of the turntable.* If your receiver doesn't have a setting for "Phonograph", or one of the a fore mentioned, then turn the switch On. That's it. Simple. Just be aware that should you buy a receiver without a "Phonograph" input you will loose the slot for whatever peripheral should go there. In my case I use an Onkyo CR-315 Shelf Unit. I plug my Audio Tecnica into the "Dock" slot. This is to be used with a special docking device that allows you to plug in an iPod. I know longer have this device, so no harm no fowl. If however I did have this device and needed to use it, I would constantly be switching between these two devices on my receiver. So just make sure you have enough inputs to avoid this potential hassle.Really, the only thing you need to look for on a receiver is to make sure it excepts inputs through RCA jacks and again, that's pretty much the standard. As to brand, that's up to you as far as your needs and budget.
Question: Any recommendations for speakers i can hook directly into the rca jack? i want something with great sound that is similar to a portable speaker
Answer: Hi, Mine speakers' sound is great. you can buy with the link:https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Udreamer+Bookshelf+Speaker&me=A20PPATB6ITV8T&ref=nb_sb_noss&field-asin=B07XMND1QS
Question: Is there any way to tell if it is recording? i have tried fat32 usbs (as cust svc indicated) and an sd card-nothing. i don't know if it is recording
Answer: I wondered the same thing. I haven't used it lately, but I remember a blinking icon when it was recording. I'll set mine up and look again.
Question: does this convert cassette to mp3 files
Answer: Hi, it could convert cassette tape to mp3 file.
Question: can you record from the tape
Answer: Yes, you can play your favorite cassettes and record them to a USB/FlashDrive. Note, if you want to have separate tracks, you will need to press record before and after each song; otherwise you will just have 1 long track that includes all songs on one side of the tape. Hopefully that answers your question! You can do the same to record to flashdrive from the radio or vinyl record. I have not tried recording from bluetooth or AUX to a flashdrive, but I imagine the process would be about the same.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the Signal-to-Noise Ratio
Answer: From 120.com In theory, a 50 dB turntable would be noisier than a 60 dB and way noisier than a 70 dB turntable. The question is whether an average listener would really notice it. That's because once you start dealing with S/N ratios of about 60 dB, you probably won't notice much of a difference as the S/N improves above that. Even at 50 dB, the amount of noise is quite small. To get 2 dB of noise, you'd have to have 100 dB of music. Most people cannot hear 2 dB, and definitely not when there's loud music playing. There will be more noise from other sources that you would hear first. 50 dB is a good enough S/N ratio for the average listener. And 60 dB or above is very good. Higher end turntables should be within the 50-80 dB range but again its pointless with the music blasting at 100dB or higher. Beyond that, it's more important to have a low degree of wow & flutter.
Question: The counterweight just slides on/off. Doesn't appear to screw on so to speak. Defective part or am I missing something
Answer: Denon DJ support here! The counterweight should screw on. If this isn't happening, we'd love to look into this for you. Please feel free to call or email us using the contact information on denondj.com/support.
