12 best budget turntables
Budget turntables are affordable record players designed to play vinyl records. They are an excellent choice for individuals who want to start or expand their vinyl collection without breaking the bank. Here are some key features and considerations when it comes to budget turntables:
Basic Functionality: Budget turntables are designed primarily for playing vinyl records. They typically offer two-speed options, 33 1/3 and 45 RPM, to accommodate both LPs and singles. Some models may also support 78 RPM records.
Build Quality: While budget turntables are cost-effective, they may not have the same level of build quality and durability as higher-end models. It's essential to choose one with a sturdy and vibration-resistant construction to ensure proper playback and minimize wear on your records.
Tonearm and Cartridge: The tonearm is the part of the turntable that holds the cartridge and stylus. Look for a turntable with an adjustable tonearm and a cartridge with replaceable stylus for better tracking and sound quality.
Belt-Drive vs. Direct-Drive: Most budget turntables use a belt-drive system where the motor is located off-center, reducing vibrations.Direct-drive turntables, found in more expensive models, have the motor directly under the platter. While belt-drive is generally sufficient for most users, direct-drive turntables offer better torque and are preferred by DJs.
Built-in Preamp: Some budget turntables come with a built-in phono preamp (pre-amplifier), which allows you to connect the turntable directly to powered speakers or an audio receiver without the need for an external preamp. This can save you money and simplify your setup.
USB Connectivity: Some budget turntables also feature USB connectivity, allowing you to digitize your vinyl collection by connecting the turntable to a computer. This can be a handy feature if you want to create digital backups of your records.
Platter Material: The platter is the rotating platform where you place your record. Heavier platters made of materials like aluminum or MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) help with stability and reduce vibration.
Anti-Skate and Tracking Force: Look for turntables with adjustable anti-skate and tracking force settings to ensure proper stylus tracking and minimize record wear.
Dust Cover: A dust cover or lid can help protect your turntable and records from dust and debris when not in use.
Additional Features: Some budget turntables may include additional features like pitch control, pitch adjustment, and automatic start/stop functions. These features can enhance your listening experience and convenience.
Accessories: Consider what accessories are included with the turntable. Some models may come with a cartridge and stylus, while others may require separate purchases.
User Reviews: Reading user reviews and seeking recommendations from audiophile forums can be helpful in finding a reliable budget turntable that meets your specific needs and preferences.
In summary, budget turntables provide an affordable entry point into the world of vinyl records. While they may not offer all the features and build quality of higher-end models, they can provide a satisfying listening experience for those on a budget. Careful consideration of factors like build quality, features, and connectivity options will help you choose the right budget turntable for your needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this turntable have built in speakers, or must you have external speakers? could i play it through an ultimate ears boom 3 bluetooth speaker |
Answer: | For better sound, external speakers are recommended.I bought 2 speakers last month, the sound quality I think is really good , clear and smooth .you can get my speakershere:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XTDNGZW?ref=myi_title_dp |
Question: | What’s the difference lp60xbt-bk and the lp60bk-bt |
Answer: | The "X" line is the newest line of Audio-Technica turntables. The LP60X is an update of the popular AT-LP60, the ATLP60X features a redesigned tonearm base and headshell to improve tracking and reduce resonance. Noise is further reduced by the inclusion of an AC adapter that moves the AC/DC conversion outside of the chassis where its impact on the signal chain is limited. |
Question: | Weight of needle on record? One oz or does it kill records |
Answer: | I don't know the weight of the needle, but this record player killed my 3 records, rubbish |
Question: | Does the arm/needle damage the vinyls in such a way as the cheap $50 briefcase style vinyls players? Can I upgrade if need be |
Answer: | All turntables degrade the performance of vinyl media. The better the counterbalance of the weight of the tonearm, the slower the degradation. The direct contact between the stylus and the grooves in the disk is abrasive. A heavy tonearm is like 100 grit sandpaper and a light tonearm is like 600 grit. I transfer all my LPs to tape and CD. Most of my LPs have only been played two or three times in decades. Limited use and proper storage keeps my collection pristine. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I order a new stylus. Where can I get one?
The Classic LP utilizes a high-quality Audio Technica AT3600L stylus and magnetic cartridge which can be found at various third-party retail locations online. They can also be ordered directly from ION Audio by e-mailing [email protected]
How do I connect this to my home stereo?
If you have connected speakers to the Classic LP using the RCA Audio Output connections, do NOT connect the RCA cables to a Phono input as this could damage your speakers. Ensure that you connect them to a line-level input such as AUX, CD, or TAPE.
What speed records can this play?
This turntable can playback 33 / 45 / 78. There is a switch that controls the RPM of the turntable platter.
Will this work on a PC & Mac?
The Classic LP is compatible with both Windows and Mac computers out of the box.
Is this powered by a USB port?
No. The Classic LP is powered with the included 12V DC 1A pin-positive power supply.
My record is skipping, what should I do?
If the record is skipping, try cleaning the record directly using standard LP cleaning techniques. For some materials that can help with the cleaning of your vinyl, you can find the VINYL ALIVE Record Cleaning Kit on the ION Audio website. If the record continues to skip, consider replacing the stylus.
Why does my turntable move when I push on it?
This is normal! The turntable mechanism base, platter & tonearm are engineered to float above the wood platform on isolation mountings to allow you to play music through the built-in speakers without feedback.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a built-in preamp |
Answer: | Most DJ professional turntables will not have a preamp. Those are inside of our DJ mixers. It’s easy enough to get a preamp or a mixer if you plan on ripping sound files. |
Question: | Where is this product manufactured |
Answer: | Manufactured in China. Designed in Japan. Hope it helps |
Question: | What headshell can I buy as a replacement |
Answer: | The bearings are extremely easy to adjust and are designed to be slightly tightened. A miniature screwdriver and a needle nose pliers are all that is needed. loosen the outer ring and then tighten the internal screw 1 or 2 degrees. They should not be tight, just tight enough to not jiggle. I own 8 technic 1200 turntables a few Vestax turntables and a few belt drive audiophile belt drive turntables. All the dj style turntables need to have bearings adjusted periodically. Completly Normal. Standard Headshells are readily available. Audiophile headshells are also made. |
Question: | How does this pioneer plx-1000 compare to the audio-technica at-lp |
Answer: | I think the best answer to which table is "best" depends on your preferences. Am not a DJ, home listening only. Recently traded a good sounding ATLP 1240 (never used the internal preamp) for an excellent sounding Pioneer PLX 1000. The AT's internal preamp seemed add a "cloud" or "veil" to the sound in my system. Even when switched to the phono out position the signal still passes through the AT's preamp circuitry. The Pioneer with straight analog output (no internal preamp circuitry to mess with the signal) sounds much "cleaner." In my opinion as a user of both, if "good" vs "excellent" sound works for you get the AT. It's a better value than the Pioneer. |
Product features
High-torque direct drive professional turntable (black)
- The PLX-1000 is precision engineered for the booth, drawing on 50 years’ experience of making high-end turntables. The result is a familiar layout with some next generation improvements, including a high-torque direct drive system, multi-pitch control, club-grade build and sound quality, and detachable power and audio cables. It’s solidly built for excellent vibration damping and ultra-precise, high-grade audio playback.
- Simply add your choice of cartridge and stylus to the PLX-1000 (not included) and combine with your mixer for an ideal setup for turntablists. An ideal match for DJs is the handmade PC-X10 (sold separately).
Turn the Tables
The high-torque direct drive ensures stable rotation and exceptional control – and it reaches 33⅓ rpm in just 0.3 seconds thanks to a starting torque of 4.5kg/cm (or more).
Excellent Sound Design
The PLX-1000’s heavy-mass, die-cast zinc chassis prevents resonance and vibrations. The lower part of the unit is reinforced with 8mm-thick resin, plus 9mm-thick, vibration-damping material at the base. Plus the rubber-insulated tone arm reduces howling effects, while rubber and springs on the dampening parts of the insulator absorb external vibrations.
Pick Up The Pace
Multi-tempo control lets you instantly pick up or slow down the track to ±8%, ±16% and ±50%, while a simple reset button instantly reverts to ±0%.
Flexible connectivity
Interchangeable power and audio cables can be easily connected and replaced, and pro-grade gold-plated RCA jacks ensure low impedance and an amazing sound quality.

User questions & answers
Question: | will arm return at end of album |
Answer: | no |
Question: | Do I need speakers for this item |
Answer: | You will need speakers and an amplifier or receiver. |
Question: | is this fully analog or does it convert to digital |
Answer: | Fully analog. |
Question: | What are the differences between this and the LP120X |
Answer: | The main differences are the MDF 40WN vs plastic plinth 120x, belt drive 40WN vs direct drive 120x, and the carbon fiber upgraded tone arm of the 40WN vs a low end tone arm 120x. Also theres no mention of there being a speed monitoring system for the motor of the 120x. The 120x has a plinth mounted led and a USB output that the 40WN doesn't if that's important. To sum it all up if your aim is to listen to records casually, you dont really care about the hifi, and you have no interest in upgrading the stylus cartridge then the 120x isnt a bad choice. Yes the 120x has the VM cartridges just the same as the 40WN but the tone arm of the 120x would need to be upgraded to really benefit from the change of the cartridge. Also you run into the possible motor vibration issues of direct drive that can affect the sound vs a usually preferred belt drive which isolates the turntable from the motor vibration. My opinion is to spend the extra $ and get the better turntable, the 40WN is much better looking to my taste as well. |

The Crosley C6 is a fully manual two-speed turntable created to give music fans a true analog experience. An audio-grade MDF plinth is wrapped in veneer to suit your style, and since weight helps keep vibration at bay, a heavy steel platter provides a solid seat for your vinyl during play. Housed underneath the platter, a low vibration synchronous motor connected via belt spins records at both 33 1/3 and 45 RPMs - simply move the belt from one groove to another to change speeds. Dial in the tracking force with the adjustable tonearm counterweight and then use the cueing lever to gently drop the needle on the record to fill the room with the warm sound of vinyl. The C6 comes with a moving magnet cartridge preinstalled, but uses a standard mount so you can upgrade as your vinyl collection grows. Connect speakers or your receiver to the RCA outputs on the back, flip on the built-in preamp (or use your own) and you're ready to jam. (Compatible with NP5 replacement needle.)
- CLEARER SOUND: This turntable uses audio grade MDF plinth & a low vibration motor to create a clearer sound.

Don't Blend In
We get our moniker from Powell Crosley, a pretty radical guy from the 1920s who knew music was for the people and created a radio for everyone. In keeping with his tradition and entrepreneurial spirit, we decided the vinyl experience was also for everyone. Our first turntable was released in 1992, when CDs were still king. Naturally, everyone thought we were nuts. But now, after over 30 years of bringing stylish music to the people, we're one of the biggest manufacturers and trendsetters of the new-millennium Vinyl Resurgence.
Amplify Your Style.
This is our mantra. Expression is a part of everything we do, not bound by time or age. From art to clothing to spaces, even the things we share on the internet are all part of our worldview. Why should music be any different? Colorful and fun, sleek and modern, funky and eclectic: there's a Crosley for everyone.

Product description
The AT33PTG/II dual moving coil cartridge features a Micro linear stylus that, with its small curvature radius, delivers low-distortion, high-range performance, even when playing the inner circumference of a record. The Micro linear stylus, which has an average life span of around 1, 000 hours, is mounted on a nude tapered boron cantilever with a double damper for reduced weight and better audio quality. The cartridge’s two coils provide excellent channel separation and are affixed within a strong, lightweight mold made of hard resin to greatly reduce unwanted vibration. The cartridge uses a neodymium magnet and a permendur yoke for dramatically enhanced magnetic energy. The PCOCC (Pure Copper by OH no Continuous Casting) coils ensure pure audio transmission.
- Moving coil cartridge with Microlinear stylus delivers exquisite, full-range audio reproduction
- Advanced tapered boron cantilever and reduced coil weight improve the audio quality, particularly in the higher frequencies
- Neodymium magnet and permendur yoke dramatically enhance the magnetic energy
- PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) coil enables pure signal transfer
- High-separation, wide-response dual moving coil
User questions & answers
Question: | Is the AT33PTG/II considered a "low output" cart |
Answer: | Yes exactly two labels of 5 1/2 each makes it an 11 inch long and a 8 1/2 inch wide paper |
Question: | Is the stylus replaceable? What do you do when it wears out |
Answer: | It is 100 pages to a pack - so 200 labels |
Question: | The needle of this set is replaceable |
Answer: | they are two per sheet. the only reason why I had to cut is because when I printed out a label it printed out small |
Question: | Can this cartridge play 45 or 78 rpms or should i switch cartridges if i have to play those speeds |
Answer: | I have discovered copy and pasting just the label into a blank Microsoft Word page and then printing prints it perfect in the top label of the Avery 8126 shipping labels. |
Product features
Audio-Technica AT33PTG/II
This model succeeds in thinning down and shortening the cantilever, compared to the AT33PTG. The coil impedance is also refined from 17W to 10W. We realized significant weight reduction of the vibration system and successfully improved the basic performance and sound quality of the cartridge.
High performance and long-life Microlinear stylus
Microlinear (ML) is a specially polished line contact stylus. This has better high range performance than the conical or elliptical stylus due to its small curvature radius and realizes low distortion and expanding high range reproduction even when playing at the inner circumference of records. And the constancy of the line contact shape is one of its main features with an average product lifetime of around 1000 hours.

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the dimensions? i have an at lp-120 and just want to make sure i'll still be able to close the lid |
Answer: | It will fit under the lid of the LP-120, but it doesn't fit onto my LP-120 spindle. |
Question: | Does it have felt on the bottom or something to prevent from scratching |
Answer: | The weight comes in a black powdercoated finish. Although I have not scratched any records using the weight some of my friends simply stick on felt pads at a cost of >$2 |
Question: | Is this a clamp or just a weight |
Answer: | Just a weight. I was very skeptical of whether it would improve the sound, but after 5 weeks and countless hours listening, I love it! In my setup, it tightens the bass. Without the weight, the bottom end is a bit muffled (hard to distinguish one bass instrument from another if both are being played at the same time). With the weight, however, I can easily distinguish the bass guitar from the bass drum, from the bottom end of the synth, etc... Easy enough to return should you decide you do not like it:) |
Question: | How much does it weigh |
Answer: | After prototyping numerous weight variations we found the optimal weight for the BigBen: 13oz, 368.544 grams |
