Audio-Technica is a renowned manufacturer of audio equipment, including preamplifiers (preamps) that are commonly used in conjunction with turntables and home audio systems. Here's some information about Audio-Technica preamps:

  1. Purpose: Audio-Technica preamps, often referred to as phono preamplifiers or simply phono stages, serve the purpose of amplifying the low-level signal produced by a turntable's cartridge. Turntable cartridges output a very weak electrical signal, and a phono preamp is necessary to boost this signal to a level that can be properly processed by an amplifier or receiver.

  2. Compatibility: Audio-Technica manufactures a range of phono preamps designed to work seamlessly with their turntables. These preamps are often compatible with a variety of cartridges and can be used with both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges, depending on the model.

  3. Sound Quality: Audio-Technica phono preamps are known for their quality and reliability. They are engineered to provide a clean and accurate signal amplification, preserving the nuances and details of vinyl records. This ensures that the warmth and character of vinyl audio are faithfully reproduced.

  4. Features: Depending on the specific model, Audio-Technica preamps may offer various features such as adjustable gain settings, switches for selecting between MM and MC cartridges, and even built-in RIAA equalization, which is necessary for proper vinyl playback.

  5. Compact Design: Audio-Technica preamps are typically compact and easy to integrate into a home audio setup. They can be connected between the turntable and an amplifier or receiver using standard RCA cables.

  6. Build Quality: Audio-Technica products are generally known for their solid construction and durability. Their preamps are no exception and are designed to withstand regular use.

  7. Price Range: Audio-Technica offers phono preamps in a range of price points, making them accessible to both entry-level and more experienced audiophiles.

It's important to note that the specific features and models available may have evolved since my last knowledge update in 2023. User questions & answers

Question: Does this thing have an/off switch or do you need to plug/unplug everytime you use it
Answer: no switch. You can plug/unplug, I leave it plugged in all the time.
Question: Unit works fine for awhile and then starts outputting static, even with no input connected. I've tried it with several amps with the same results
Answer: Most likely people who are having noise problems it is because of ground loop isolation problem. If you have a ground loop isolation problem grounding the preamp box is unlikely to help. Without getting technical, what you want to buy is a ground loop isolator or a humm eliminator; both the ground loop isolator and humm eliminator tackles the cause of the noise at the fundamental source of the problem, depending on your audio setup, one maybe easier to use than the other. To use the ground loop isolator or the humm eliminator they generally come with instructions, or you can google this topic. If the noise in your audio system isn't fixed by using this solution the first time, try putting the ground loop isolator and humm eliminator at various points in your audio system. Also you can talk to audio people and get advice about how to fix ground loop problems from people who setup big audio systems, for concerts and such; if you talk to the average electronic garage shop audio enthusiast you are likely to get bad advice, i.e., meaningless explanations. Also caution must be used when Googling this topic, much of the discussion, advice and explanation on this topic is bogus, you can get a general correct feel of this topic if you read a number of explanations. Also one more thing that can cause a "popping noise" is that you have too much gain, this is a phono amp and the gain is huge, it takes a 3mV and makes it 2Vp-p this is a gain of around 100 to 200, if you gain up the audio signal too much then the signal out of your amplifier runs out of head room and clips, this can cause a popping sound, essentially you have too much gain. If this is occurring you need to either buy a preamp with less gain or attenuate the signal before it gets to the preamp. If this is a problem, too much gain, you can buy preamps with gain control.
Question: My turntable has very quiet output. Will this device help boost the volume
Answer: Yes, indeed. If your need was like mine (no built-in pre-amp on the turntable and no specifically dedicated phono input on your amplifier) you will find this unit to be the perfect solution to needed amplification of the turntable's output. Don't forget to hook up the ground wire as directed or you may wind up putting unwanted noise into the audio.
Question: My amp DOES have a Phono Input, but my cartridges are low output. Can I use this to boost the signal using the Phono Input to reduce audible hiss
Answer: No, you can't. This is a phono preamp with RIAA playback equalization that amplifies the signal about 100 times, so it essentially does what your built-in phono preamp does. The output signal from the separate preamp is equalized to a nominally "flat" frequency response and the amplified signal level will overload and probably damage your built-in phono preamp. Plug it into any other stereo line input on your system (AUX, CD, DVD, TAPE, VCR, etc.), but NOT the PHONO input! If you need higher signal gain, maybe look at phono preamps from ART or TCC that have output level controls. If you use moving-coil (MC) cartridges, you need a preamp specifically designed for them...they require at least 55 dB (over 500 times) signal gain vs. about 40 dB (100 times) for moving-magnet (MM) cartridges. Noise becomes a critical issue with MC cartridges because of their extremely low signal output, so good-quality cables and good turntable grounding are essential.

    User questions & answers

Question: If I have a record player without a Preamp, will this help me with hooking it up to a Sonos
Answer: You can hook it up to anything with a red and white connection. Or if you get the rca to 3.5mm jack then you can hook it up to anything with an input slot. I used this on my realistic lab 440 which doesn't have a preamp. Once I connected the ground from my turntable into the ground slot on this amp, my music sounded loud and clear.
    Question: mp
Answer: Turntables (with typical magnetic cartridges) have very low signal output (a few thousandths of a volt). Records have the bass reduced to provide enough room on the surface for the recorded grooves, and the treble boosted to reduce the surface noise level when played back. A phono preamplifier performs two jobs: - It boosts the small signal from the turntable by about 50 to 100 times (producing a "line level" signal) so it can be used by typical receivers or amplifiers.- It also boosts the bass and reduces the treble according to an industry standard (the RIAA equalization curve) to restore the signal from the record to its original frequency response. The Pyle PP999 is just an inexpensive phono preamp, nothing special. Phono preamps can range from $20 on up to whatever you're willing to pay for ultra-high quality. Some manufacturers make "USB" phono preamps that have A/D (analog-to-digital) converters built in and connect to a computer's USB port. Most of these provide "CD quality" conversion (16-bits at 44kHz or 48kHz). These may be adequate for digitizing your vinyl, but many computer sound systems can provide up to 24-bit, 192 kHz conversion depending on the software you use (much higher quality), by connecting the preamp output to the computer's line input. Don't just convert directly to MP3 files...you'll lose too much detail compared to the original vinyl sound. It takes almost no time to make an MP3 copy of a high bit-rate WAV or FLAC (lossless) file, but it'll take you an hour to make ANY digital copy of an LP, so do it the best you can the first time!
Question: So this is a stupid question, I plug my RCA wires coming from my turntable into the Amp. But where do I plug the speaker wires into on the Amp
Answer: TurnTable==>PreAmp==>Receiver/Amplifier==>SpeakersThe 'Pyle PP999' is the "Preamp". The Turntable is plugged into the PP999 INPUT and the PP999 OUTPUT plugs directly into any (non Phono) INPUT on the receiver. Your Receiver allows you to switch between different music-sources, contains the primary-amplifier and distributes the final sound out to the speakers(and subwoofer). The Receiver should have multiple inputs for receiving signals from eg. CD, Tape, VCR, etc. In my experience those labels are for convenience and interchangeable with the exception of a "Phono" input. NOTE: If the receiver has a "Phono" input then there's a built-in preamp. If your using an external preamp (Pyle PP999) do NOT plug it into the Receiver's 'Phono' input, it could cause damage. I plug the preamp for the turntable into the Receiver's 'VCR' or 'TV' inputs.
Question: I have the Pyle turntable and Pyle stereo but they don't work together--VERY low sound--so is this the missing piece
Answer: Turntables (with typical magnetic cartridges) have very low signal output (a few thousandths of a volt). Records have the bass reduced to provide enough room on the surface for the recorded grooves, and the treble boosted to reduce the surface noise level when played back. Most modern receivers DO NOT have the right inputs to deal with this signal (no "phono" input). User questions & answers

Question: Can i play vinyl from my B&O 3400 turntable & cartridge thru a vizio soundbar model# s4251w-b4? Do I need to use my pyramid sea2500x preamp too
Answer: Most likely. I go from my record player to this to a mixer. So I'm guessing your receiver probably has an aux in which is what you plug into from the art.
Question: Do i need to buy this for yamaha A-s801 integrated amp or that amp has a phono
Answer: Sansui? Ceramic's, as I recall, can run close to 1 V output. This preamp is designed for moving magnet cartridges (not moving coil) that produce ~ 5 mV output. Even at -10 dB on the gain/attenuation knob, it would still be too hot. 1 V with -10 dB attenuation is ~ 300 mV which is far more than supported. Per manufacturer, max input is 40 mV. So, no, this won't work with your ceramic cartridge.
Question: Just to be clear, my AVR (Onkyo tx-nr535) doesn't have a phono input. Do I connect the turntable to this device and plug this device into my AUX port
Answer: Without a ground wire, there may be a discernible hum. I have a Yamaha PF 1000 and the ground wire is is a must.
Question: How can i tell if my pioneer pl-460 is mm or mc
Answer: I've had both, and kept the DJpre. There's a thread on an audio science forum where a user conducted a thorough level-matched test of both the Pluto and the DJpre with an oscilloscope and other precision instruments. They both performed very well, but the DJpre came out decidedly on top in several key categories. Whether that translates to a noticeable difference in sound quality depends on the listener, but the DJpre is empirically better than the already good Pluto. He also found that the DJpre performed best when the low cut rumble filter was on--not only did it kill the sub-20hz sounds, it actually boosted the audible frequency response across the board (particularly the highs where the Pluto tends to roll off). This is easily the best phono pre at $50 and under, and performs better than units costing twice as much. You'd have to spend $250+ to get a better pre, and even then it'll only be a miniscule improvement.

    User questions & answers

Question: Can this preamp connect to my active speakers? or just connnect to power amplifier
Answer: Hi, This is a stereo preamplifier, you can connect it to the active speakers or power amplifier than to passive speakers.
Question: I have this hooked up to bookshelf speakers, sounds great, would i hear a noticable difference hooking it to a subwoofer
Answer: I currently use the Pre-Amp with a powered subwoofer amp, it works just fine. The P1 has frequency response down to 20hz, so adding a subwoofer may be worth your while.
Question: Can i hook this up to a 2 channel receiver? i have a pioneer sx-10ae
Answer: Yes you can if your receiver has output/input jacks for the Fosi to be in a "loop". If you do not have input/output jacks then you would be relegated to installing the Fosi to cd player or turntable or whatever component you are trying to acquire a bit of tube sound. I use mine to "soften "a bright metal tweeter in my speakers. Since I have separate components it was easy to install in my case. Also check to see if your receiver has "preamp" in/out jacks. Question: Is there a recommended replacement tube
Answer: I replaced the stock ones with the Riverstone Audio 7-Pin GE JAN 5654W (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BFJDTW0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). They are very nice tubes but do need about 20-25 hours of solid burn-in before they start to "warm up the sound" in my opinion.

    User questions & answers

Question: Does this turntable have built in speakers, or must you have external speakers? could i play it through an ultimate ears boom 3 bluetooth speaker
Answer: For better sound, external speakers are recommended.I bought 2 speakers last month, the sound quality I think is really good , clear and smooth .you can get my speakershere:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XTDNGZW?ref=myi_title_dp
Question: What’s the difference lp60xbt-bk and the lp60bk-bt
Answer: The "X" line is the newest line of Audio-Technica turntables. The LP60X is an update of the popular AT-LP60, the ATLP60X features a redesigned tonearm base and headshell to improve tracking and reduce resonance. Noise is further reduced by the inclusion of an AC adapter that moves the AC/DC conversion outside of the chassis where its impact on the signal chain is limited.
Question: Weight of needle on record? One oz or does it kill records
Answer: I don't know the weight of the needle, but this record player killed my 3 records, rubbish
Question: Does the arm/needle damage the vinyls in such a way as the cheap $50 briefcase style vinyls players? Can I upgrade if need be
Answer: All turntables degrade the performance of vinyl media. The better the counterbalance of the weight of the tonearm, the slower the degradation. The direct contact between the stylus and the grooves in the disk is abrasive. A heavy tonearm is like 100 grit sandpaper and a light tonearm is like 600 grit. I transfer all my LPs to tape and CD. Most of my LPs have only been played two or three times in decades. Limited use and proper storage keeps my collection pristine.

    User questions & answers

Question: Can I load my albums into itunes
Answer: You bet --- once you digitize your albums and have them in MP3 format, you can import the into iTunes as you would any other music.
Question: Can I play a record to my computer and burn a cd, also does the software come with this unit. Thankyou
Answer: Once you've transferred the vinal to digital you can burn a cd or use it the way any digital items are used. The software is a separate FREE download. The instructions are included.
Question: Will I be able to transfer music to my iTunes library
Answer: Richard, generally, as I understand it, yes. You will be able to record your records to your PC hard drive. From there, you can convert your music files to whatever formats you prefer. For iTunes, I believe you can import them into iTunes and iTunes will automatically convert them to iTunes format as you import them. If there is a more direct method to record them to iTunes, I'm not aware of it. Hope this helps! Skip
Question: My husband just received this turntable as a Christmas gift. Any recommendations for a receiver that is compatible? Our old receiver is broken
Answer: Basically any receiver/amp will work with this unit as long as the inputs are RCA jacks and that's pretty much all of them. Here's how it breaks down. All turntables require a pre-amp before the signal goes to the main amplifier. Most modern receivers do not have a dedicated slot for turntables any longer. So most turntables include the pre-amp built in. The switch for the pre-amp is on the back of the Audio Technica.* So if your receiver has a setting for "Phonograph", "Phono" or "Turntable" you're good to go. Just switch the pre-amp Off on the back of the turntable.* If your receiver doesn't have a setting for "Phonograph", or one of the a fore mentioned, then turn the switch On. That's it. Simple. Just be aware that should you buy a receiver without a "Phonograph" input you will loose the slot for whatever peripheral should go there. In my case I use an Onkyo CR-315 Shelf Unit. I plug my Audio Tecnica into the "Dock" slot. This is to be used with a special docking device that allows you to plug in an iPod. I know longer have this device, so no harm no fowl. If however I did have this device and needed to use it, I would constantly be switching between these two devices on my receiver. So just make sure you have enough inputs to avoid this potential hassle.Really, the only thing you need to look for on a receiver is to make sure it excepts inputs through RCA jacks and again, that's pretty much the standard. As to brand, that's up to you as far as your needs and budget.
Question: Any recommendations for speakers i can hook directly into the rca jack? i want something with great sound that is similar to a portable speaker
Answer: Hi, Mine speakers' sound is great. you can buy with the link:https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Udreamer+Bookshelf+Speaker&me=A20PPATB6ITV8T&ref=nb_sb_noss&field-asin=B07XMND1QS
Question: Is there any way to tell if it is recording? i have tried fat32 usbs (as cust svc indicated) and an sd card-nothing. i don't know if it is recording
Answer: I wondered the same thing. I haven't used it lately, but I remember a blinking icon when it was recording. I'll set mine up and look again.
Question: does this convert cassette to mp3 files
Answer: Hi, it could convert cassette tape to mp3 file.
Question: can you record from the tape
Answer: Yes, you can play your favorite cassettes and record them to a USB/FlashDrive. Note, if you want to have separate tracks, you will need to press record before and after each song; otherwise you will just have 1 long track that includes all songs on one side of the tape. Hopefully that answers your question! You can do the same to record to flashdrive from the radio or vinyl record. I have not tried recording from bluetooth or AUX to a flashdrive, but I imagine the process would be about the same.

    User questions & answers

Question: Does this turntable need speakers to play the record
Answer: Yes. Needs an amp and speakers.
Question: What are the differences between this at-lp60x and the regular at-lp60? this one https://www.amazon.com/audio-technica-at-lp60-automatic-belt-drive-tu
Answer: Lp60x is the newer model.. there are some aesthetic changes, DC conversation happens in the plug now, the o/p is a 3.5mm aux jack with a aux to rca cable(instead od the other way around in 60) that's what I found when I was researching on it. There might be some internal changes too
Question: Do you needle for this product
Answer: The need comes with the product. I bought this as a gift for my mother.
Question: What does ‘fully automatic’ mean exactly
Answer: A fully automatic turntable will queue and play the record itself with the push of one button as well as return the tonearm on it's own once the record is finished playing.

    User questions & answers

Question: will arm return at end of album
    Answer: no
Question: Do I need speakers for this item
Answer: You will need speakers and an amplifier or receiver.
Question: is this fully analog or does it convert to digital
    Answer: Fully analog.
Question: What are the differences between this and the LP120X
Answer: The main differences are the MDF 40WN vs plastic plinth 120x, belt drive 40WN vs direct drive 120x, and the carbon fiber upgraded tone arm of the 40WN vs a low end tone arm 120x. Also theres no mention of there being a speed monitoring system for the motor of the 120x. The 120x has a plinth mounted led and a USB output that the 40WN doesn't if that's important. To sum it all up if your aim is to listen to records casually, you dont really care about the hifi, and you have no interest in upgrading the stylus cartridge then the 120x isnt a bad choice. Yes the 120x has the VM cartridges just the same as the 40WN but the tone arm of the 120x would need to be upgraded to really benefit from the change of the cartridge. Also you run into the possible motor vibration issues of direct drive that can affect the sound vs a usually preferred belt drive which isolates the turntable from the motor vibration. My opinion is to spend the extra $ and get the better turntable, the 40WN is much better looking to my taste as well.

    User questions & answers

Question: Can I plug this turntable into powered speakers and have sound or do I need a receiver
Answer: You can use it in both ways.
Question: I have always owned belt drive turntables. I have read that direct drive can be noisy. How is this one as far as rumble
Answer: My previous turntable was a very nice AR belt drive table, and I had the same concern about direct drive rumble. Not any more. The AT-LP120XUSB is dead silent. It sounds incredible.
Question: So, since this turntable has a built in preamp, does this mean I can use passive speakers? Or do I need powered speakers
Answer: No. You'll need powered speakers or you'll need to plug it into an amp to use passive speakers. "Preamp" = pre (before) amplifier. Preamps and phono amps take the very low signal from the stylus and amplify it to a level that an amplifier can use. AND (the reason record players need phono-specific preamps instead of a standard preamp) the preamp/phonoamp also decodes the RIAA format that all albums since the 1950s use, which is proprietary and needs a specific type of decoding to play the music.
Question: Ok,..in plain english,...can i plug this tt into external speakers? that's all i want it for. if yes,...what type of speakers
Answer: Yes you can... The turntable has a built-in preamp. You want to buy powered speakers. They sell tons of them now. The best I have heard were KRK powered speakers. To get a good idea of what’s available, check out the needledoctor or crutchfield websites.

    User questions & answers

Question: Does the phono signal bypass the preamp circuitry completely when disengaged or is there some coloring of the sound even when bypassed? Thank you
Answer: While I can't give you the definitive technical answer you are looking for, I can tell you I have it set up next to an old school Sanyo semi auto playing through a top of the line Onkyo pre-amp, DH500 mosfet amp, and new top of the line JBL tower speakers I just got to replace 40 year old Ohm Walsh 4's. Sound is as clear as the older turntable; I'd attribute any difference in the color of the sound to the cartridge; which can be upgraded. I checked out many turntables before I bought; and this seemed to be the best available unless you want to step up to a manual model. I'm happy with the purchase so far.
Question: What are the actual dimmesions on the audio techna lp3bk
    Answer: 17long,14w,4@3quarters high. bob
Question: Anybody experiencing problems with the speed varying
Answer: Yes, after the turntable was used for a month or so, I noticed the speed was a bit high... most noticeable on familiar records. I looked into how the speed can be adjusted on the bottom of the turntable... a fine adjustment that must be done with care, jewelers screwdriver and a speed checker. I used a free App called RPM on my iPhoneSE After carefully adjusting 2 or 3 times, the turntable has not needed further adjustment for about a year. I think it just needed a break in period for the belt drive and bearings. I hope this info is helpful.
Question: If you manually cue, does it auto return
Answer: If you manually place the arm on the record when it reaches the end of the record the auto return will activate and the arm return to its resting place and shut off.
