5 best acoustic audio amplifier for subwoofers
An acoustic audio amplifier for subwoofers, often referred to simply as a subwoofer amplifier, is a specialized electronic device designed to power and enhance the performance of subwoofer speakers in a home audio or professional audio setup. Here's what you need to know about these amplifiers:
Purpose: Subwoofers are dedicated speakers designed to reproduce low-frequency sound, such as deep bass tones in music or the rumble of explosions in movies. An acoustic audio amplifier for subwoofers is specifically built to provide the necessary power and control for these low-frequency drivers.
Power Output: Subwoofer amplifiers come in various power ratings, typically measured in watts (W). The power output of the amplifier should match the power requirements of the subwoofer or subwoofers it will drive. Adequate power ensures that the subwoofer can reproduce deep bass accurately and without distortion.
Frequency Response: These amplifiers are optimized for the low-frequency range and are designed to handle frequencies as low as 20 Hz or even lower. This capability is essential for producing the deep, rumbling bass commonly associated with subwoofers.
Connectivity: Subwoofer amplifiers typically offer various connectivity options, including line-level inputs, speaker-level inputs, and sometimes low-level outputs for daisy-chaining multiple subwoofers. They may also feature controls for adjusting phase, crossover frequency, and gain.
Crossover Controls: Subwoofer amplifiers often include a crossover control that allows you to set the frequency at which the subwoofer starts reproducing sound. This helps in blending the subwoofer's output with the main speakers, ensuring a seamless transition between the low-frequency and mid/high-frequency sounds.
Enclosure Type: Some subwoofer amplifiers are designed to be integrated into a subwoofer enclosure, while others are standalone units that can be placed anywhere in the audio setup. Integrated amplifiers are commonly found in powered subwoofers.
Placement: When using a separate subwoofer amplifier, it's important to consider its placement for easy access to controls and adjustments. Additionally, the location of the subwoofer itself should be chosen for optimal bass response, which may not necessarily be in the same spot as the main speakers.
Cooling and Protection: Subwoofer amplifiers may include built-in cooling mechanisms, such as fans or heatsinks, to prevent overheating during prolonged use. Some also have protective circuitry to prevent damage from overloading or short-circuiting.
Subwoofer Type: The choice of subwoofer amplifier should be compatible with the type and configuration of subwoofers in your audio system, whether they are passive or powered (active) subwoofers.
In summary, an acoustic audio amplifier for subwoofers is a crucial component in a home audio or professional audio setup, dedicated to delivering powerful and accurate low-frequency sound. When selecting a subwoofer amplifier, it's essential to consider factors like power output, connectivity, and compatibility with your subwoofer and overall audio system to achieve the desired bass performance.

User questions & answers
Question: | Hi, i am from australia, could i get the 220v drive for the amplifier |
Answer: | This is an 18 volt amp! Rig a wall wart to go between it and your local mains. |
Question: | Looking to power to aura bass shakers will this work? And do I have to run them in series? What should the crossover be set to |
Answer: | Should work, wire speaker individually set at 4 ohms. |
Question: | Will this amp power 4 aura bass shakers? 50w 4-ohm each. recommended wiring would also be appreciated. thanks |
Answer: | I think you would need an amplifier for EACH Bass Shaker. This is mostly due to the fact that this amplifier isn't capable of producing 200w RMS, plus you are going to run into Impedance issues too. I'd probably just buy a used & completely separate (A CHEAP OLD MODEL) 5.1 reciever. Then put it in "5 Channel Stereo Mode", & run individual RCA inputs, & speaker wires to EACH channel in question. Obviously making sure the amp makes enough power to run the Bass Shakers. Does that make sense? |
Question: | How come it claims to have 200w but in input power is only 40w (18v * 2.2 A |
Answer: | Chelsie missed the intent of the question. Yes the input power is 40W and I think the person asking the question knows that. The question was how can it produce 200w of output power from 40W of input power. The answer is that the 200W ratings given are dishonest and violate longstanding US FTC regulations that requires that audio amplifier output be advertised as RMS watts into a given impedance (typically 4 or 8 ohms). What is being quoted here is instantaneous peak power which is NOT RMS power. The steady state continuous duty RMS output power of this amplifier is probably on the order of 10 to 15 watts per channel with the rest lost to heat. Save your money and look elsewhere. This unit can't create energy out of thin air. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i hook this up 4 ohm |
Answer: | Yes, if your amp is rated at 4 ohms minimum impedance, you certainly can hook it up to an 8 ohm speaker. Actually, you could connect two speakers in parallel, because 1/((1/8)+(1/8))=4ohms |
Question: | May you measure the outer circular part of the woofer without the faceplate and tell me dimension |
Answer: | I actually installed mine in a custome box yesterday. The outer diameter is about 9 1/2", the frame is tapered however so the whole you would need to mount the speaker in needs to be about 9 1/8". |
Question: | What type of connection are these |
Answer: | The one I just bought, has the flat pins, like car speakers. It came with speaker wire, with clips on the end, that attached to the pins. |
Question: | How do I wire the hds10 sub with the ws1005 amp to my receiver that has a single sub out? Nothing is working |
Answer: | I just wired the sub in parallel to the center channel. That worked for me. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this amp push a kicker l |
Answer: | It is 2 or 4ohm stable so your sub can be both. Depends on your VCs, load rating etc. But Kickers are nothing special so yes, no problem. |
Question: | Is this a one channel or |
Answer: | I used this amp for a while. It is still sitting in my garage. It is a one channel. |
Question: | would this amp push a 2 ohm apline type r 15 which has a 750 watt rms |
Answer: | Yes it will |
Question: | What's the difference in a class D and a A/B amp |
Answer: | From my experiences and what I heard class D amps don't heat up as much for instance this amp barely heats up my old class A/B would heat up and shut off alot where as this one has not done it once. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Pictures for the 15" sub doesn't look right. Does anyone know if the pictures are legit |
Answer: | You are correct. As of the time of this response, the picture for the 15" model is actually the picture of the 6.5" model. The correct picture can be found on Acoustic Audio's website at http://www.acousticaudio.net/psw15.html. |
Question: | I currently have a onkyo receiver hooked to a 5.1 surround by LG..my sub is not aux hookup only speaker cable so i must get a powered sub. Would this |
Answer: | Yes you can use the sub woofer with your receiver. |
Question: | Does it have a three prong power plug that includes a ground connection |
Answer: | No, it's just a duel plug, and no ground connection. Hope that helps. For such a small sub it hits pretty good. I have it set up in my bedroom 2 front speakers and it, and the quality is great. |
Question: | I just got this today and was hoping to hook it up to the aux output of my stereo. no sound. do i have to use speaker input instead |
Answer: | Make sure that your stereo is actually sending signal through your auxiliary outputs. Then make sure that your gain knob is turned up. This amplifies the incoming signal. If you still aren't getting any sound, you could try connecting a live speaker cable to the high level in. The signal will be converted to low frequency. You could use your Speaker B output on your stereo to do this. Just make sure that the B speakers are on on your stereo as well. Also make sure your subwoofer is plugged in and turned on, classic troubleshooting. |
