3 best 10 powered subwoofer
A 10" powered subwoofer is a type of speaker designed to reproduce low-frequency audio signals, commonly known as bass, in home audio systems. These subwoofers are popular for enhancing the audio experience by delivering deep and powerful bass. Here's what you need to know about them:
Size: The "10" in a 10" powered subwoofer refers to the diameter of the subwoofer's driver. A 10-inch driver is considered mid-sized and strikes a balance between compactness and bass output.
Powered Subwoofer: "Powered" means that the subwoofer has its built-in amplifier. This is in contrast to passive subwoofers, which require an external amplifier. The built-in amplifier simplifies setup and ensures a matched power source for the subwoofer.
Bass Enhancement: A 10" powered subwoofer is primarily used to reproduce low-frequency sounds, typically between 20Hz to 200Hz or so. It is responsible for adding depth and impact to movie soundtracks and music by reproducing deep bass notes that regular speakers may struggle to handle.
Frequency Response: Subwoofers are rated based on their frequency response. A typical 10" powered subwoofer can reproduce frequencies as low as 20Hz or even lower, depending on the model. The lower the frequency response, the deeper the bass it can produce.
Crossover: Many powered subwoofers include adjustable crossover settings. This allows you to specify the frequency at which the subwoofer starts reproducing sound. It's essential to set the crossover correctly to blend the subwoofer's output with your main speakers seamlessly.
Power Rating: Subwoofers have power ratings in watts (W). The power rating indicates the amplifier's capability and the subwoofer's maximum volume output. Make sure the subwoofer's power matches or exceeds the amplifier's output to prevent damage.
Enclosure Type: Subwoofers come in various enclosure types, such as sealed, ported, or bandpass. Each type has its characteristics, affecting factors like bass response and enclosure size. Choose the type that fits your audio preferences and space.
Placement: Proper subwoofer placement is crucial for optimal bass response. Experiment with subwoofer placement to find the spot in your room where it provides the most balanced and impactful bass.
Controls: Powered subwoofers typically come with controls for volume, phase, and sometimes equalization. These controls allow you to fine-tune the subwoofer's performance to suit your listening environment.
Price Range: The price of a 10" powered subwoofer can vary widely based on factors like brand, build quality, power output, and features. There are options available to fit various budgets, from affordable to high-end models.
Brand Options: Numerous reputable audio equipment manufacturers produce 10" powered subwoofers, including well-known brands like Klipsch, SVS, Yamaha, Polk Audio, and more.
In summary, a 10" powered subwoofer is an essential component of a home audio system, providing deep and impactful bass for movies and music. When choosing one, consider factors like frequency response, power rating, enclosure type, and controls to ensure it meets your audio needs and integrates well with your existing audio setup.

User questions & answers
Question: | What in your opinion is the best power setting for normal use, "on" or "auto" for this unit |
Answer: | I would say depends if you use the item everyday/constantly as your sound for your surround. Or if you use surround/theater occasionally. If the latter I would use `on/off` , if you use it often or primarily the auto would be the way to go in my opinion. Plus is the sub easy to get to? Auto is great if its behind furniture or out of reach, etc. |
Question: | Does this speaker have a volume control? Thanks |
Answer: | Just to clarify something a previous reviewer stated: "Note: If you are using a Sub out/LFE connection from your receiver turn the Low Pass all the way up. " This does not apply to receivers with which you can specify the low-pass cutover frequency. For example, my modest Onkyo receiver has cutover settings of 80/100/120 HZ for the LFE/Sub output. If you have this option, you should consult your main speaker's manual for suggested low-pass settings or simply tune them by ear. For my setup, 120 HZ was both the recommended and best-sounding cutover frequency. 160 HZ was a little muddy :) |
Question: | Can this sub be added to a Vizio 2.0 sound bar, for small to medium-sized HDTV's? If not, what should I get? For TV/Games/Music |
Answer: | Like John, I too have a Vizio 2.0 sound bar and this pairs very well. I have a small theater room (10 x 20) and this one 10" fills the room. This sub is the best bang for the buck you can get. |
Question: | Do I need a Y-adpater? A sound tech told me one sub wire would do the trick and just plug it into the L and ignore the R. Is this true |
Answer: | Initially, used a one wire connection. Sounded OK, but .... Got a "Y" connector, attached at the rear of the amp, ran L & R wires to the PSW10: sounds amazing now and very adjustable. Need to get the PSW12 to get a one wire connection. Am very satisfied with this sub and would recommend it. Used in a 12' X 20' room, front/back/center and now the sub. Tom |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do i only need this to play music or do i have to connect some speakers or something |
Answer: | Absolutely yes! Subs only handle low frequencies (boom boom!). All mid, high frequencies are handled by main speakers (either 2 or 5 or more depending on what your receiver can support). And yes, you will need a receiver as well to connect subwoofer and main speakers. |
Question: | does this sub have an auto on/off where it shuts on and off with a signal from turning off/on your reciver |
Answer: | I just checked, the green power light stays on but I believe the sub shuts off automatically to standby just like the satellite speakers once the receiver is powered off. |
Question: | Can I connect this to a pioneer cx |
Answer: | From what I can see online it doesn't look like it has a powered sub woofer port on the back panel. Without that I don't believe it will work. |
Question: | Does this item come with a black grill cover |
Answer: | Yes, it came with black detachable grill cover. FYI, cover made out of fabric type material. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why did the price go back up to $129. ? I was going to purchase it at $99. , I wont pay |
Answer: | There are fairly clear instruction included with the unit. If you have a receiver with subwoofer out, just run an RCA cable to the single input on the subwoofer. If you are using just a stereo amplifier, then you'll need to do some additional wiring. Again, the instructions should be clear enough, but basically, wire from the amp outs to the subwoofer and then from your subwoofer to your speakers, and then set the crossover frequency using the subwoofer dial. |
Question: | This subwoofer has hi level ins but no hi level outs in the pictures. How does that work? Run 2 sets of wire from amp? 1 set to sub 1 set to speakers |
Answer: | Yes it is powered. 400 watts, is plenty of power. Excellent sound. Keep it away from the wall a foot or so so it can breathe. |
Question: | Does unit have a lfe connection? i don’t see one from the pics |
Answer: | I adjust as needed, depending on the source. Normally people set it in the middle and use the source (receiver, etc) for adjustment, but my new receiver requires the TV to be on to adjust sound output |
Question: | Hi ,My question is how do i set up my subwoofer |
Answer: | Hi,I know it's been almost a year since you purchased the sub. Don't use any petroleum based product on the rubber surround. It will dry out the rubber. Btw, the rubber will hold up for many years and even longer if you keep sunlight off of it. It being a sub the grill won't harm the sound the way a grill can slightly harm on your main speakers.
