User questions & answers

Question: Why is the woofer on top
Answer: A rough measurement with a ruler gives a diameter of 1 cm. I put the microphone inside a guitar with "f" holes. The microphone with its foam cover easily, but snuggly, fits into the small holes on either side of the f's. Before you slide the microphone into your instrument, make sure the volume is at zero or the microphone is OFF. Otherwise, major feedback squeal as it is passed through the hole; that's my experience with f holes, anyway.
Question: What are they rated at
Answer: You will need this adapter: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UY76JVI and this cable: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0108VXSZY
Question: Can this speaker connect to the PC
Answer: As far as I know, Audio Technica uses "Pro" in the name of many of its products, which can get confusing. The Pro 70, the microphone pictured under the heading "Audio Technica Pro Series..." seems to be one item in a series of Pro products. The Pro 70 is usable as a clip-on for acousticguitar. It comes with a clip that attaches to the sound hole.
Question: What are the speaker dimensions
Answer: Look up product info.

User questions & answers

Question: What in your opinion is the best power setting for normal use, "on" or "auto" for this unit
Answer: I would say depends if you use the item everyday/constantly as your sound for your surround. Or if you use surround/theater occasionally. If the latter I would use `on/off` , if you use it often or primarily the auto would be the way to go in my opinion. Plus is the sub easy to get to? Auto is great if its behind furniture or out of reach, etc.
Question: Does this speaker have a volume control? Thanks
Answer: Just to clarify something a previous reviewer stated: "Note: If you are using a Sub out/LFE connection from your receiver turn the Low Pass all the way up. " This does not apply to receivers with which you can specify the low-pass cutover frequency. For example, my modest Onkyo receiver has cutover settings of 80/100/120 HZ for the LFE/Sub output. If you have this option, you should consult your main speaker's manual for suggested low-pass settings or simply tune them by ear. For my setup, 120 HZ was both the recommended and best-sounding cutover frequency. 160 HZ was a little muddy :)
Question: Can this sub be added to a Vizio 2.0 sound bar, for small to medium-sized HDTV's? If not, what should I get? For TV/Games/Music
Answer: Like John, I too have a Vizio 2.0 sound bar and this pairs very well. I have a small theater room (10 x 20) and this one 10" fills the room. This sub is the best bang for the buck you can get.
Question: Do I need a Y-adpater? A sound tech told me one sub wire would do the trick and just plug it into the L and ignore the R. Is this true
Answer: Initially, used a one wire connection. Sounded OK, but .... Got a "Y" connector, attached at the rear of the amp, ran L & R wires to the PSW10: sounds amazing now and very adjustable. Need to get the PSW12 to get a one wire connection. Am very satisfied with this sub and would recommend it. Used in a 12' X 20' room, front/back/center and now the sub. Tom

User questions & answers

Question: Why are there two sets of wire inputs on the back of the speaker
Answer: See this well written article on it, I am actually going to buy the wires myself after reading up on it despite the much higher price tag, but they are a good price on amazon, other have written they are $100 at Best Buy but $30 on Amazon -- http://www.chord.co.uk/help-and-information/speaker-cable-guide/bi-wire-or-single-wire/
Question: does anyone know why it has 2 sets of wire inlets on each speaker? Normally it's one set black and red
Answer: The 2 sets of speaker 5 way binding posts are for bi-wires or bi amps if you remove the bridges so you can by-pass the speaker cross-over. It's a waste of time and money since you will need an external cross-over. I wouldn't bother with it at this price point. They are as good as you can get for the price.
Question: Why do these have a set of two connections at the back? Is it for two audio sources
Answer: Oh my gosh please disregard any of the stupid people who said its benefits are debatable, or that it helps midrange. Those people shouldn’t answer questions about things they obviously know nothing about. I’m reporting those answers as not only wrong but intentionally ignorant. The truth is most people have their front 2 mains wired to the receiver. Today’s receivers are 7.1 and more 9.2.4 or 11.2.whatever. However most users choose not to wire speakers to the extra surround and Atmos channels. 5.1 being fine. So in addition to wiring the entire speaker to just the front Left and Right, you can remove the metal connecting both sets of posts. Leave the original speakers wires. Now go into your receivers set up menu and go to speaker set up. Most receivers have a selector for if you’re using the front-above speaker option. If not, now you can run a 2nd speaker wire to both speaker and connect to the 2 unused posts. The immediate benefit is that instead of only 2 of the amp’s 100w channels pushing the whole Left and Right, you now have 4 of the amp’s 100w channels pushing your speakers. Each speaker gets 200w.
Question: Is there a "practical"reason for these speakers to have so many individual speakers inside them
Answer: Yes. Oversimplifying but hopefully still useful: There's an ugly trade-off between bass quantity and quality. Larger drivers have more surface area (volume really, as a speaker is effectively an irregularly-shaped piston for pushing and pulling air). More surface area means more bass. But it also means more inertia and typically sloppy or booming (mid-)bass lacking in detail or transient response ("edges"). Smaller drivers respond faster and create tighter, punchier, more accurate (mid-)bass because it can respond faster, but less low bass due to the reduced surface area. Using multiple smaller drivers is an attempt to retain the tight and accurate mid-bass but also team the drivers up to move enough air to extend the bass down low. It's an attempt to keep the best attributes of both approaches. However, real bass-heads might still want a little more low bass. Fortunately, really low bass (say 20-60 Hz) isn't particularly critical and you can get away with a massive woofer like 12" or even 15". For this, a subwoofer is perfect. If you add a subwoofer to a speaker like this, be sure to cross it over well below 100 Hz, as you paid for bass accuracy and you wouldn't want to degrade it by too much overlap. Think of the subwoofer as turning your 3 way speakers into 4 way speakers. You don't want much overlap. As with any free audio advice, take nobody's word for anything and experiment for yourself. Every room and every ear is different, so I might be all wet. That said, there' s the rationale, in a nutshell.

User questions & answers

Question: Can Polk audio rc80i connect to the 400w subwoofer
Answer: If there’s no subwoofer out option on your receiver, you’ll fund plenty of youtube tutorials on how to still add the active sub.
Question: What is the impedance on this sub
Answer: I believe it is 8 ohms ,most house speakers are rated at 8 ohms unlike the 4 or 2 ohm subs for vehicles.
Question: If receiver or amp does not have LFE out, can full range signal be sent to sub and with upper level signal then sent out to satellites
Answer: This box is rated 110v-120v. In this configuration it will not work at 240v. Perhaps if you can contact the manufacturer directly they can accommodate you. It should be a simple matter of swapping out a transformer.
Question: For the 12" model, can someone please measure the exact total depth including the knobs on the back? Thank you
Answer: I bought a separate woofer with this set. Really great sound. But to answer your question, I don't know.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this unit come with the 12 month manufactures warranty
Answer: Hello, The subwoofer is self-powered, meaning it contains an audio amplifier. Your receiver is connected to this amplifier, so the impedance of the actual woofer is not affecting the receiver at all.
Question: Does this Sub comes with a remote
Answer: Hello Yes, a speaker level input signal then passed on to the satellites.
Question: I have a yamaha a-s801 integrated amplifier with debut b6 bookshelfs, polk tl2. are you able to tell me how compatible they will be with this system
Answer: The listing's dimensions are way off. I measured 18.25" X 17.25" X 18.75"
Question: is subwoofer input digital or analog
Answer: Its an active subwoofer, so it has a built-in amplifier. There is a level control to match the output to your other speakers. The master volume control of the receiver or amplifier that is powering the other speakers will then control the volume of the subwoofer, along with your other speakers.

User questions & answers

Question: can this connect to a wireless bluetooth speaker
Answer: No remote with this subwoofer
Question: How well does this subwoofer sound as a wireless sub
Answer: I have the 10” subwoofer. Using with a Yamaha rd-v 381 home theatre with jbl satellite speakers. I’m very pleased with this speaker. I don’t think you can go wrong with the 12”. Hope I was helpful to you.
Question: Does it include the wireless kit
Answer: line level RCA inputs are Analog and the LFE is Digital. Hope this helps. I have mine connected to the LFE as my receiver has this output . Note: LFE (Low Frequency Effect) - The discrete content sent to the subwoofer from a Dolby or DTS encoded audio track. ( The .1 in a 5.1 or 7.1 audio track) LFE + Main - The low frequencies output to the Subwoofer whether the speaker channels are set to Large or Small.
Question: Hi, does the DSW Pro 550wi supports 220 to 240V
Answer: Hello, There needs to be an additional component, usually a receiver to provide the power to the RC80i speakers. The subwoofer only powers itself.

Polk Audio TSi100 Bookshelf Speakers

Small in size, big in performance, the TSi100 is a speaker to use for wall-hanging surround speakers in a TSi Series home theater (heavy duty wall-hanging brackets are built right in). Or, use them as main speakers in a small room, where performance is key but size is a consideration.

Features:

  • TSi enclosures are constructed of extensively braced, solid MDF with 3/4-inch baffles. This virtually eliminates internal resonances and damps energy-stealing vibrations, for more efficient operation and more transparent sound.
  • Beautiful pewter accents, a high gloss piano-finish black top plate and your choice of stylish black or cherry wood-grain finishes make TSi speakers a part of your decor.
  • Polk's proprietary, Dynamic Balance technology allows our engineers to design out distortion-causing driver and system resonances, so you only hear the good sounds.
  • Klippel motor optimization uses laser measurement technology to ensure a smooth excursion path at either end of the volume spectrum for uniform performance at both low and high volumes.

Features:

  • TSi design combines smaller drivers (for more overall driver area with less driver mass) and narrow baffle geometry, for wider range and more spacious soundstaging, so every seat in the house hears a prime performance.
  • Durable, efficient, and tuned with our Dynamic Balance process, TSi Series polymer cones produce smooth, natural sound.
  • All Polk loudspeakers are timbre-matched within their series, designed with the same components throughout, to achieve seamless speaker-to-speaker blending effects in multi-channel systems.
  • Gold-plated, professional-style 5-way binding posts, for secure connection options.

User questions & answers

Question: I can’t tell in the picture, can these connect with banana plugs and skip the bi-amp feature
Answer: Sure these speakers will. These will work with any receiver. Just connect the speaker wires to the back of the speaker and then to the spring terminals of the receiver.
Question: Is this better than the Bic Pl
Answer: I am using it with a great older table (Yamaha YP-D10) and a Denon AVR4800. The speakers can handle the load and are crisp, warm and mellow even when cranked up a bit. Love them.
Question: Specs say recommended power range is 20-275W. Does it mean the speaker will not be able to produce full range of sound with if fed less than 20W
Answer: The TSi line is built a little better and you can see the tweeter is located on the bottom making them good for surround speakers. Personally, I bought some Definitive Studio Monitor 450's at a really great price (More than 50% off retail) If I were going to buy Polks again I would go with the RTi line. They use some of the same drivers in the smaller model but have a better enclosure and are front ported. The Tsi line is slightly better than the Polk Monitor line since the Monitor Line is the cheapest Polk speaker you can buy.The Def Tech S.M. 450's weigh in at 20 LBs each and are built like a tank. They also can be found for about $300 a pair since they have been dis-continued. But the Polk RTis with the 6 1/2" midbass driver were my second choice for sure. Your correct in that the TSi line uses the same drivers as the monitor line but the top placed piano black finish is a nice touch. If you go with the RTi line your really moving up to an above average sounding speaker. They also have a rather expensive center channel for the RTi line as well. That way all your speakers will be timber matched.I bought a Definitive C/L/R 2002 center that's a beast. I had to mount it on my bottom shelf and it still sells for over $500 at some places. You can pick one up on Ebay that's refurbished for about $279 and it was just like a brand new center with zero scratches on both sides that are also covered with a piano black finish that matches the Studio Monitor 350's and 450's perfectly. It also has a 90 day warranty. It depends on the sound your looking for. The Polk Rti line does sound very good and the matching center with twin 6 1/2" drivers is truly a great sounding center. The Def Techs sound a tad bit bright which is too much for some people. It's all dependent on your listening room.If I didn't get such a fantastic price on my 4 new 450's at $280 a pair X 2 and the discounted 2002 center, I would have gone with the Polk Rti line and bought the larger model with the 6 1/2" driver for my fronts and the cheaper model with the 5 1/4" driver for my rears.Really either way you can't go wrong. Buying them thru Amazon is always a huge plus with there great return policy. The Def Tech 450 and 350 line are excellent speakers and Def Tech has the best customer service I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I had a defective tweeter in my center channel and a replacement was shipped to me free of charge. I also had one defective 6 1/2" driver and they sent me a new tweeter and 2 new 6 1/2" drivers along with 2 10" passive radiators. Not even a serial number was needed or proof of purchase. They simply took my word for it and sent me replacement drivers of all types since I was unable to figure out which driver was actually defective. My Dad has the tower versions of my bookshelf 450's and I was always impressed with there sound . So when I saw a 3 day sale on Newegg for the 450's at only $280 a pair I bought 2 pair and never looked back. But I think the Polk Rti line is well worth the cost and compared to Polks Lsi line that's supper expensive the Rti line is the better choice for the cost to sound variable I use for all electronics.I always tell people what my Father taught me back in 1980. You should spend 2/3 of your allocated funds for your music system on your speakers since they are the source.I had a pair of the Polk Monitor 40's and 30's originally. When I bought my Sennhiser HD 598's I realized just how bad those speakers were for music reproduction. They were o.k. for movies but there music reproduction had too many holes in the frequency range to count. A bloated mid range and a lack of good bass reproduction are just 2 of there problems. If your going with Polk and that's not a bad thing at all I would buy the Rti line of floor standing speakers or the bookshelf speakers and the rather large center that's timber matched to them. I'm sure you will be pleased with there music reproduction and the fact that you will be timber matched across the spectrum. I also had a Polk CS-10 center channel and sold it to my friend at a really cheap price. They still sell very cheap at around $109 and the Rti centers and the Def Tech 2002 center both make that CS-10 sound like the price you pay for it.Hope this helped you out. Steven LevelI just saw the Definitive Studio Monitor 450's on sale at Newegg and from Newegg on Ebay brand new for only $270 a pair. They normally retail for $660 a pair so the $270 a for a pair is what I was able to buy them for. I just paid a little more for faster shipping. It's one heck of a great deal getting a pair of these for $270 and then find a 2002 center on Ebay refurbished for $269 or so. Definitive also has a smaller new center channel called the HD 6040 if I remember correctly. It uses 2 new 4 1/2" drivers a 1" aluminum dome tweeter and a oval top mounted passive radiator. It also gets really good reviews and is much smaller in size. It's there new line of speakers and center channels. Definitive also makes one of the best powered subs in the Super Cube 4000 and 6000. They use a 8" main driver and twin 8" passive radiators on each side. Tons of power with a 1,000+ power amp and a remote control. They can also be set up wireless with a add on purchased item.I'm a huge Definitive fan ever since my Dad bought his towers about 10 years ago. So I went with two pairs of the 450's and a 2002 center and a BiPole middle rear speaker as well. So I have a 6.1 surround sound setup since my Yamaha receiver has a feature that allows a secondary small amp to control the rear middle or a pair of rear speakers along with sides. I just went with a single Bi-Pole for the middle rear and two 450's for the front and rear for a great sound setup for movies.I was considering a Super Cube for my new powered sub or a SVS 12" 300 watt powered sub that are both sealed enclosure that eliminates any port noise. My current powered sub is a Dayton Audio 12" with 120 watts and it gets the job done much better and cheaper than the Polk 12" 300watt. I tried the Polk 12" which is really more like a 7 or 8" driver with a super thick surround to it. I barrowed my Dads Polk 505 12" and found that the rear slotted port just causes too much port noise. When you listen to Pink Floyd The Dark Side Of The Moon you can hear tons of rear port noise with the Polk PSW 10" or the Polk 505 12". Once you here the port noise you will never be able to tune it out. The 505 is great for movies but horrible for music. The very cheap but not cheaply built Dayton Audio 12" is much better for music with a faster 12" driver. The 120 watts is just enough power to fill a normal room with a ton of clean bass.Checkout my review of the Dayton 12" as I go into great detail and explain why it does not create the same port noise as the Polk sub do. It's a 44LB beast and is one of the rare times that you get what you pay for is not accurate. You get "Much More" than you pay for in the Dayton 12" powered sub. It's a great sub for movies and very good for music. It's not the best sub out there, however, it's by far the best powered sub for the money at this time.I'm either buying a SVS 12" or a Refurbished Super Cube 4000 that both cost $500 or $560 for the Super Cube. The key of both of these subs is the fact that they are both sealed enclosures that have zero port noise! The 450's are selling super cheap again due to a huge supply surplus and the new line of Studio Monitors have been out for well over a year now. So Definitive is allowing Newegg and Amazon to sell them at unreal low prices to get rid of the excess supply. If you get a chance to listen to them I would at least try them out. I believe Newegg will allow returns with a restocking fee! So it's possible to return them if you find them too bright for your listening room.I just added some sound absorbing panels that are sold at Parts Express for a good price and put them on the walls next to the 450's. This toned them down without needing a E.Q.I also have a all mint condition vintage analog setup: Carver C-1 preamp, Carver TX-2 tuner, Hafler DH-500 amp (255+ watts per channel of really clean power), Onkyo 7030 CD player that is as good as a Cambridge Audio 640C V2 CD player and will even play .flac audio files perfectly! Its selling here on Amazon for only $140 the last time I checked it out. I paid $195 with 3 day shipping. It uses the same DACs as the Cambridge which are Wolfson as well as a very high end power transformer that's used in Onkyo's higher end CD players. It's simply unbeatable for it's price. It also weighs in at 11+ LBs. The Yamaha S-300 is nice as well but it's $300 and only sounds a slightly different with its BurrBrown DACs.It's a nice Cd player but is a older design from 2010 that lacks the .flac audio playback but does have a front USB port for MP3s and it weighs only 7.7 LBs which is not saying much for it's power transformer. I have never bought Onkyo before but it was a very nice surprise getting a CD player of it's build quality for only $190 or only $140 as of today! It's a second example of the you always get what you pay for not being accurate. I also have a mint Pioneer PL-7 turntable and a Adcom Power line conditioner that also turns on and off your equipment in the proper order. It's one of those components that people rarely buy but if you do you will be impressed with it. I bought mine on Ebay new out of the box for only $69 including the shipping. It has a front aluminum plate just like the Onkyo 7030 does.I put this analog system together for about $1,200 since I already had the amp from my dad. I use it for excellent stereo only 2.2 setup with two powered subs. My DEf TEch 450's crave lots of clean power and I needed this system to play stereo loud and clean without clipping the amp! My Yamaha receiver was clipping and shutting down when playing Led Zeppelin so I put this vintage analog system together! I absolutely love the 2.2 stereo setup and my music playback has never sounded better. It will improve when I get the $1000 I need for twin SVS 12" powered subs, but until then I'm using a Dayton 12" and my first mistake Polk PSW 10" powered sub that's so over rated it's hard to believe that many people can give such a lousy 50 watt powered sub with tons of port noise all these 5 star reviews!I guess these people have never owned a powered sub before or these reviews would be 2 stars instead of 5! Good Luck with your new speakers no matter what you buy I hope your happy with them :) Try the 450's they will not disappoint you and at only $270 a pair the price is just unreal for such great sounding bookshelf speakers. They have such great soundstage that my Dad was blown away when he stopped over to hear them. he couldn't believe the price I paid either since Definitive is not known for discounting, ever!!
Question: Are these speakers, TSi500, 8ohm, 6ohm or 4ohm? i can't seem to find that info here, on the polk site or in the material provided with the speakers
Answer: No

User questions & answers

Question: Whats the ideal screws to use to hang on a concrete wall
Answer: I didn’t wall mount my speaker it’s sitting in a home entertainment cabinet. To wall mount in concrete you will need to drill holes in the concrete using a masonry drill bit the recommended size for the concrete wall anchors you will be using, you will put the screws into the anchors. Make sure the head of the screw will fit through the mounting hole on back of speaker. Mounting hardware kits (screws, anchors and drill bits ) are available at your Local hardware store. Of course you will need a drill, screwdriver and hammer (to use in inserting the wall anchor)
Question: Is the signature s35 compatible with rti a7 floor standing speakers? i want to use the s35 for center channel or is another speaker better for the rti
Answer: I think completely compatible. I use it for a center speaker. It is really nice.
Question: Can i used this with marantz sr5012 and martin logan esl hybrid 8 i worry about tone of the voice be diferrent
Answer: 90% of the voices are coming out of the center channel, you should not notice a difference, but personally, I would stay with Martin Logan's center channel and stick with their quality.
Question: Every speaker brand strives to be neutral, so why should there be tonal mismatches? Why must I buy a center of the same brand
Answer: In my experience most speakers have their own tonal quality however that does not mean speakers from different manufacturers or even different models by the same manufacturer will not sound good together. I use my Polk S35 center channel speaker with four Bose 301 series speakers and a Polk PSW505 subwoofer to make up my home theater system. They sound great together and much better than it did with my original Bose center channel.
