| Answer: | I built mine during construction and yes, MDF works well. I built a box that went from rafter to rafter out of inexpensive oak plywood and it has worked very well. Like I’ve told others, don’t merely place it under insulation as I don’t believe it provides an adequate speaker box. Essentially your attic becomes the box in that scenario. |

I recommend going through monoprice for your speaker wire, audio wallplates, wire connections and speaker stands. Cannot beat their quality and prices. |

Caveat, ceiling joists are generally 24” on center these are not that wide. Will need to block them. That’s easy but it’s a necessity. |

| Answer: | A 'box' would nice for a couple of reasons: 1) insulation, if you live in a cold area, eliminates heat just going up through the speakers 2) keeps attic dewellers and their messes away from speakers, 3) can improve the sound of the speakers, while they're not made for bass, an enclosure would eliminate a little sound loss and provide a slight mid-range/bass increase. Made mine from 1 inch thick insulation sheets, around $15 and 15 minutes of time, now I don't have to worry about heat, squirrels, or anything ending up on them. So no, you don't need them, just ask yourself if you have any of the issues I've pointed out. |
