User questions & answers
Question: | Would these be good to use in the office to block noise from neighboring cubicles? And, I don't want my ears to hurt from wearing them |
Answer: | These are very comfortable headphones compared to other closed-back headphones and can't beat the price. Not sure if there would be enough insulation from outside noise, but i you are in an office environment, I would think so. |
Question: | Are these Flat frequency response headphones |
Answer: | no. not even close. they sound really colored and weird without heavy EQ. |
Question: | How's the bass like? Is it deep or soft |
Answer: | The basic state of the headphones is flat frequency response which is as it should be. Because of this they respond very favorably to how you set the EQ on your playback device. If you want bass, EQ for bass. What they do not do is color the playback like the overwhelming low mid stuff you get out of something like a set of beats. These reproduce what is sent to them very accurately making them great as a studio monitor and even better for home listening. Very impressive headphones for the price point. |
Question: | What is a jack type? 3.5 mm |
Answer: | The jack comes with a 1/4" connector attached, but it can be screwed off for the more mobile-device-friendly 3.5mm connector. |

AKG K72 Closed-Back Headphones
Pro quality sound meets style and affordability with the AKG K72 over-ear, closed back headphones. Professional-grade 40mm drivers reveal even the subtlest nuances, so you can be confident your mix will translate accurately on any system. Whether you’re tracking the hook or mixing background harmonies, the self-adjusting headband and lightweight design will provide hours of comfort. Designed by the company whose mics and headphones have helped create some of the world’s most iconic recordings, the durable K72 headphones deliver great sound wherever your music takes you.
Professional Drivers - Clear Sound in the Studio and Beyond
Our K72 headphones deliver authoritative, extended low-frequency response that gives definition to kick drums and bass guitars. At the same time, the detailed yet precisely balanced high-frequency response reveals the nuance in vocals, guitars and acoustic instruments. Our generous 40mm drivers deliver high sensitivity for powerful output, plus an extended frequency response that reveals every detail. The K72s also feature a low-impedance design for compatibility with a broad range of playback devices, from professional studio gear to portable music players.
Closed-Back Design - Get Lost In Your Sound
The K72 headphones’ closed-back design eliminates audio leakage and delivers sound to your ears only. The mic won’t pick up the sound of the click track in your headphones - and you’ll always be able to mix peacefully without being distracted by outside noise. This exceptional level of audio isolation is due to a new acoustic chamber, which sits between the ear cup and the hinge that connects to the headband. Our innovative design gives you the freedom to move your head in any direction, without letting sound in or out. With the K72, you’ll enjoy a private workspace, no matter where you choose to create.
The Style that Fits All - Comfortable Listening
Getting the perfect mix sometimes means monitoring track levels for hours - and that’s when comfort really counts. We designed our unique self-adjusting headband to automatically create the perfect fit for every band member. No need to mess with delicate sizing mechanisms, which have the potential to break over time. The exposed headband design keeps the K72 headphones comfortably light, without compromising driver size. Breathable, lightweight ear pads encircle your ears, rather than putting pressure on them. And a single-sided cable gives you freedom to move. To sum it up, these high-performance headphones sound, feel and look great.

User questions & answers
Question: | How LONG in feet is the detachable cord |
Answer: | 9-10 Feet. |
Question: | Is this an original brand? or It is made in China |
Answer: | The inside sticker on a pair of these purchased in 2020 shows that it is "Made in China". The production country doesn't always indicate the quality as many name-brands have been outsourced to China. |
Question: | These being 55 ohm models, can you really get by without a headphone amp? I'm coming from Grado SR80s which sound fine without an amp, imho. This is for personal use, no mixing or DJing. Probably using a laptop or my Cowon MP3 player usually |
Answer: | Note : I'm hard of hearing (severe to profound, with more loss in the higher frequency) Comparing these to a Sennheiser HD 280 Pro that I am replacing (the right side died from a bad wire after just a year), using my desktop computer and my Samsung Galaxy J7 Star phone as a reference (using Google Music). On my desktop PC, which is basically your typical RealTek type of integrated sound card, they are a bit on the quiet side, but possibly audible enough for most people with a normal hearing range, but I am able to hear the vocals and bass, just more quietly than I like. The HD280Pro above was a louder by default (but has a higher impedance oddly enough). On my mobile phone, it's louder and while it may not be cranking it out, it's definitely loud enough for me to enjoy without a problem. When paired with my Tascam DR60Mk2 4-channel audio recorder, using the computer output into CH1/CH2 XLR inputs at a 'LOW' gain setting, and headphones plugged into the Phone monitoring 3.5mm jack with an output volume around 6~8 depending, it is much louder and closer to what I prefer. Also with the amplication provided on the tascam (Which is overkill for computer purpose, and meant more as a field recorder) with a Low gain setting is a very clean signal to the headphones and definitely loud enough for someone who is close to deaf as I am. Nutshell : even with me being hard of hearing, using the headphones with a mobile phone or computer directly, it's loud enough for me to hear it, even if it's not like "jamming". Sidenote : Compared to the Sennheiser, these are semi-open backs (versus a closed back), which means not only do the K240 exhibit sounds that other people in the room will be able to hear what you're listening to easily, it also means that as I'm typing on a mechanical keyboard with 'red' switches, I can hear my clacking typing while music is playing on the headphones. |
Question: | What is better for recording and mixing guitar, vocals (for metal). And mixing them. AKG 240 or Audio-Technica ATH-M50? Why |
Answer: | I can't comment on the ATH-M50, as I haven't used one yet. The AKG 240 however is a very good set, but I wouldn't use headphones to mix final masters. Especially not when you have to listen to screaming guitars. For tracking vocals you should be carefull as a sensitive mic would "listen" to the headphones too. Not always welcome when recording soft passages. Hope this helps |

User questions & answers
Question: | hi any recent buys here that can tell if it's still the made in Austria models |
Answer: | K712= made in slovakia. everything else (including K612) = made in china. |
Question: | hi , are they wireless |
Answer: | No, they are not wireless. |
Question: | Do these K702 have substantially more bass than the Q701 (which I found to be very light in the bass |
Answer: | Although I don't have a 701 the bass on the 702 is not deep but is present, if you want more bass maybe you have to look for 600/650's.... |
Question: | Looking at the 712 and 612. I am a musician who also does production. Why would I want to spend the extra money for the 712s? Thanks |
Answer: | I own the 712's and 702's, but not the 612's so I can't fully comment on your question. However, I can say that the 712's are much better than the 702's. The 712's have a richer bass tone, which more than makes up for the lack of bass in the 702's. With the 702's I was producing mixes that actually had too much bass to compensate. The 712's are extremely clear, clean sounding, yet extremely flat too (except maybe a tiny boost in the bass, but it is not a boomy sound - still very clean). You can listen to them for a long time without getting fatigue. Also, they are more comfortable than the 702's. Another headphone that I really love is the Audio Technica ATH-M50's. They are definitely more fun to listen to than the 712's, and way better than Dr. Dre Pro's, but the highs and lows seem to be a bit more exaggerated (which is why they sound so good). They are closed back too, which makes them not quite as good for mixing as the 712's. But, they are in the $100-$150 price range. I hope this helps... |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these headphones come with a carrying case |
Answer: | No, they don't come, but I suggest to buy a case just in case. If you don't want to, buy it without a case, those are durable headphones, but you never know if you'll need the case to carry them in a bag, back pack, carry on. |
Question: | How does this compare to the ATH-M30? And how comfortable is it for extended hours of use |
Answer: | I can only respond to the 2nd part of your question as I have not tried the ATH-M30, but the ATH M20X was (for me) extremely uncomfortable even after using for only a short period of time. This was due to the, IMO, excessive heat build-up which literally caused pools of sweat to collect inside the earpieces. I returned the headset after a few days. |
Question: | are these good for big heads? i have trouble finding headphones that fit comfortably over my big head. also i wear glasses if that helps |
Answer: | They are pretty tight on the head, and they go over the ear, so if you're wearing glasses the soft part will push on your frames. I can't wear my glasses with them because I find it too uncomfortable. It might be better to look at on ear, rather than around ear headphones. That said, I've been able to loosen the headphones a lot by bending the the metal headband. If you're not afraid to do that with $50 then you might be able to get them to a comfortable "clamp" amount, haha. |
Question: | Are these noise-canceling enough to wear on a plane and not hear the plane noise |
Answer: | They do NOT have electronic noise canceling. They are over the ear. The cups absorb outside sound but not enough that would be considered "noise cancelling". They're mainly for DJ's, home, and professional studio producers who use them because electronic "Noise Cancelling" tech interferes with recordings. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will the mic be disabled when I use the 3.5 mm cable |
Answer: | Hi grae.b, the three WH-1000XM4 voice pickup microphones located on the left earcup work only when connected via Bluetooth. The WH-1000XM4 headphones work fine for phone calls when the audio cable is connected, though, by utilizing the microphone from the smartphone. ~Earl |
Question: | Can you use the noice cancelling without playing music |
Answer: | Hi Someone, Thank you so much for your inquiry in our newest Industry Leading Noise Canceling Overhead Headphones! Yes, you can. The Noise Canceling feature of these Bluetooth® headphones is initially set to automatically turn off after five minutes. You can change the Automatic Power Off setting in the Headphones Connect app from 5 minutes to 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 3 hours or, if you want Noise Canceling to stay on all the time, just simply tap Do not turn off. Also, the automatic power-off feature has only one setting, power-off after 15min of not wearing. I hope this helps! Thanks again for considering Sony! - Romeo |
Question: | Will these work with ps5 or ps |
Answer: | The WH-1000XM4 are the best headphones you can buy for use with PS4 or PS5. The Pulse 3D Wireless Headset is a very cheep pair of headphones both in quality and price. The WH-1000XM4 can do everything that the Pulse 3D can do and has many additional features. The sound quality, microphones, noise cancelation, comfort, build quality, battery life, charging speed, and wireless pairing of the WH-1000XM4 are superior in every way compared to the Pulse 3D. The PS5's 3D audio will work with the XM4s. I have had the XM3 model for 2 years and I absolutely love them. They work great with my PS4. Because I was so happy with the XM3 I decided to upgrade to the XM4. I've owned Bose and Beats before but I've found them lacking in features. I can not recommend the WH-1000XM4 enough. You will not be disappointed. |
Question: | Whats better from the xm3 to to the xm4 is it even worth it |
Answer: | Hi James, Thank you so much for your interest in our newest Industry Leading Noise Canceling Overhead Headphones WH1000XM4! There have been some great upgrades to the WH1000XM4 from the WH1000XM3. The WH1000XM4 utilizes DSEE Extreme™ (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) which upscales compressed digital music files in real-time. Dynamically recognizing the instrumentation, musical genres, and individual elements of each song, such as vocals or interludes, it restores the high-range sound lost in compression for a richer, more complete listening experience. The new WH1000XM4 will reduce noise 20% better than the prior model. It does this in part by utilizing the 5 built-in microphones to remove the directional sound. Also, the WH1000XM4 features smart listening technology to enhance your listening. With this, you can simply start speaking to automatically pause your music in Speak-to-Chat, or enjoy adaptive playback thanks to the proximity sensor and two acceleration sensors that detect whether your headphones are being worn or not. Finally, we also gently adjusted the design of the headphones. We added more cushioning to the headband and ear padding. We also changed the outside dimensions of the headphones slightly so they sit more comfortably over your head. For their detailed specifications, please visit our support website. I hope this helps! Thanks again for considering Sony! - Romeo |

User questions & answers
Question: | what are the differences between the 500x and the 700x? And how are these with movies |
Answer: | They are the best headphones I've ever owned. The only difference is what drivers are actually used, I've never owned the 700x but I'm sure they would more than likely be sufitient. |
Question: | are they good for gaming |
Answer: | I added an Antlion to mine and it works great for gaming. The positional audio is solid. If you want ground-rumbling bass, well, don't use a headset. My sounds card has a good EQ and the bass and overall sound is excellent. |
Question: | Does the cord have the option of detaching (unplugging) from the headset |
Answer: | Yes, if you want to mod it |
Question: | How does the sound quality on these compare to the ath-m40x? If you had to choose between the two for piano practice/orchestras, which would you pick |
Answer: | As the m40x is closed, I would imagine your question is about recording and monitoring? A closed monitor headphone would suit that objective very well. If you meant you were planning on enjoying music in a quiet and comfort of a room somewhere the ad700x will definitely open your ears and blow your mind a bit if you've never had an experience with open headphones before. Closed for monitoring or noise area, open for quiet and most enjoyable sound. Closed may have better bass. |
